Tejaswin satisfied with silver, Vishal disappointed at missing podium
A personal best, becoming India's best male quartermiler this season, and a gold in the relay notwithstanding, T.K. Vishal was not ecstatic at the end of Day Two of the Asian Athletics Championships.
The 21-year old, part of the AFI's plan to revamp the 4x400m relay squad in both men and mixed, admitted there was disappointment at missing out on a medal in his maiden solo international outing but said it was a learning curve.
'Getting a PB (45.57s) is good but I tried my best to get a medal but missed by 0.02 seconds. I am disappointed because now I will have to wait for the next event but this was my first individual international event, I have to take this, learn from it and get better,' he said during an interaction.
Running two tough races inside three hours was not easy but Vishal insisted it didn't bother him. 'I have trained for it, I was prepared and it is only good for me going forward, makes me stronger,' he said.
Decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, on the other hand, was satisfied that he did his best en route to winning silver with a personal best in shot put and 110m hurdles.
'The shot put PB changed the momentum on Day One because I was really in a hole after the first two events and struggling but after that, I thought I could do something going into high jump. Then today I saw Yuma Maruyama, who was a strong contender for gold, trip and injure his neck badly while warming up for the hurdles but still decide to run and try to push through the pain, which gave me the motivation to go all out for gold.
'Getting a PB was the turning point but I wanted to make sure I completed all events. In such championships it's more about going for the medal instead of trying to go for any improvement in points. You have to stay grounded over two days. In other events, you finish and go back and think what went right or wrong but in decathlon, you think you can't do anything else, you just want to go home,' he shrugged.
India with eight medals is currently third on the medal tally behind China and Japan.

John Brenkus, one of the founders and former host of Fox Sports and ESPN television series Sports Science, has died, his family announced on social media. In a statement posted on his Instagram account, they further added that Brenkus had a long battle with depression. He was 54 years old. 'It is with profound sadness that we share the news that John Brenkus has passed away. John, co-founder of Base Productions, founder of and co-creator and host of the 6-time Emmy Award-winning Sports Science, had been battling depression. John lost his fight with this terrible illness on May 31st, 2025,' the statement read. 'His heartbroken family and friends request privacy at this time, and encourage anyone who is struggling with depression to seek help,' it further added. The statement posted on Brenkus's social media accounts did not mention the exact cause of death. There are no indications of physical health issues, accidents, or foul play contributing to his death. Brenkus was open about his battle with depression, particularly in a January 2023 interview with Marcellus Wiley on Never Shut Up. He revealed spiraling into a 'deep, deep depression' after selling Sport Science to ESPN in 2010, feeling 'mentally lost' and becoming 'flat-out suicidal.' His dog intervened during a suicide attempt, prompting him to call his mother for help. This experience led him to seek treatment from multiple psychologists and psychiatrists. Despite his advocacy for mental health, Brenkus's depression persisted. He continued to discuss his struggles publicly, aiming to destigmatize mental illness, especially for men in high-pressure fields like sports media. Born in 1971 in Vienna, Virginia, Brenkus co-founded BASE Productions and created Sport Science, which debuted on Fox Sports Net in 2007 and moved to ESPN in 2010. The show, earning six Sports Emmy Awards, analyzed athletic feats through science, hosting over 1,800 segments with stars like Drew Brees. In 2013, he founded producing shows like The Goat Code, described as 'Sport Science on steroids'.

Majestic Joe Root's ODI Best Seals England's Series Win Over West Indies
Joe Root struck his maiden one-day international score of over 150 as England beat the West Indies by three wickets in Cardiff on Sunday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in a three-match series. England were faltering at 2-2, chasing 309 for victory, after both Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett were out for ducks at Sophia Gardens. But star batsman Root's 166 not out saw England finish on 312-7 as they won with seven balls to spare ahead of Tuesday's finale at the Oval, despite West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph's fine return of 4-31 from his maximum 10 overs. Root received good support from England captain Harry Brook (47) -- a series winner in his first campaign as permanent white-ball skipper -- in a stand of 85. Will Jacks (49) then helped Root add 143 in 20 overs during a sixth-wicket partnership that took England to the brink of victory. This match also saw Root become England's leading ODI run-scorer, his tally of 7,082 runs in 168 innings surpassing retired World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan's mark of 6,957 in 207. England were not as sharp in the field as they had been at Edgbaston, with Carty missed on one and 41 in two of four dropped catches in the innings. Carty and Brandon King (59) shared a second-wicket stand of 141 following the loss of teenage opener Jewel Andrew for a duck before Hope made 78.
