Tarik Skubal Gets Good Cy Young Award News on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Detroit Tigers head into Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles with the best record in all of Major League Baseball. Fresh off taking two of three games from the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs, Detroit has surged to the top of the American League standings.

At 43-24, the Tigers sit alone in first place in the AL Central, and their dominant pitching staff is a major reason why.
Leading the staff is the 2024 American League Cy Young Award winner, Tarik Skubal. The 28-year-old lefty is back to his elite form in 2025.
MLB posted its latest Cy Young poll Tuesday afternoon, and the news was good for Detroit fans. According to the league:
"Tarik Skubal remains the favorite to win his second straight AL Cy Young.'
Skubal is still the clear front-runner according to ESPNBet, coming in at -190 odds. Trailing him are Hunter Brown, Jacob deGrom and Max Fried at +800, followed by Garrett Crochet at +900.

If Skubal wins the award again, he'd be the first American League pitcher since Pedro Martinez to earn back-to-back Cy Young awards. Martinez did it in 1999 and 2000 with the Boston Red Sox.

Skubal has been with the Tigers since 2020, when he made seven starts as a rookie. After entering 2024 with a career record of 23-27, he exploded for a breakout season. He went 18-4 in 31 starts, posting a 2.39 ERA. Over 192 innings, Skubal struck out 228 and walked just 35.
So far in 2025, he's 6-2 through 13 starts with a sparkling 2.16 ERA. He's struck out 105 and issued only seven walks. In a recent start against the Cubs, Skubal tossed 7.2 innings, allowing eight hits and just one run.

His month of May was particularly dominant. In 41 innings, he gave up only 22 hits and 10 runs while striking out 59 and walking two. That kind of command has made him nearly untouchable.
Skubal is expected to start the series finale Thursday in Baltimore. After that, the Tigers return home to host the Cincinnati Reds starting Friday.

Pat McAfee Sends Terse Message to NBA on Finals Referees

Pat McAfee Sends Terse Message to NBA on Finals Referees originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Generally speaking, the complaint-level on this year's NBA Finals between the Pacers and Thunder has been bizarrely low, especially after a run of NBA playoff games that seemed to be decidedly weighted one way or the other by missed calls. Certainly, there was no shortage of complaints about the officiating in the playoffs in the first three rounds. Advertisement Remember back in the conference semifinals, when the Pacers were playing the Cavaliers, and Cleveland coach Kenny Atkinson seemed to come up with daily ref grievances? That got bad enough that Pacers coach Rick Carlisle actually complained about all the complaints. "In two games we've been called for nine more fouls than them and they've shot nine more free throws than us," Carlisle said of Atkinson's Cavs. "It doesn't add up. We're not expecting any gifts from the referees. I don't think we got any in either of the first two games. I know they disagreed with some calls. It's all part of it. We just have to do our very best to maintain the kinda edge you gotta have." Mandatory Credit: Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images But in the first three games of this year's Finals showdown, bad calls did not play much of a role. However, things got more and more chippy on Fridaywhich led to some questions. Advertisement One play seemed to rankle Pacers fans. In it, Obi Toppin of the Pacers was whistled for a foul and given not only a foul but also a flagrant foul, then was assessed a technical fould as part of a double-tech following a tussle with Isaiah Hartenstein. Pacers fans were not happy about it. And one in particular: ESPN host Pat McAfee, who wrote on Twitter/X: "Hey @NBA … these refs." Through three quarters, though, the free-throw situations were very similar, with the Thunder trying 24 free throws and the Pacers trying 23. The Pacers led, 87-80, entering the fourth quarter. New Video of Pascal Siakam Emerges Before Game 2 of NBA Finals

New Video of Pascal Siakam Emerges Before Game 2 of NBA Finals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Pacers will play the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. Advertisement Indiana holds a 1-0 series lead following a close 111-110 victory on Thursday. Forward Pascal Siakam played well against the Thunder's tough defense, posting a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The 31-year-old has averaged 20.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game throughout this postseason. He was awarded the Larry Bird Trophy as the Eastern Conference finals MVP for averaging 24.8 points per game against the New York Knicks. The thing is, Siakam isn't just talented on the basketball court; he also has some solid looking soccer skills. The NBA posted a new video to its X account on Saturday of the All-Star forward having fun during practice by kicking a basketball around like a soccer ball. Advertisement They also shared a similar video from before Thursday's game, in which he is seen doing the same thing. 'P always brings the skills,' the NBA shared. 'Now he's bringing them back to the finals 🔥.' Siakam, a native of Cameroon, isn't the only NBA All-Star who likes to show off his soccer skills. Multiple videos of Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic kicking around a basketball have been posted to show his love of the sport. Siakam and the Pacers play the Thunder in Game 2 of the NBA Finals at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday on ABC.
