SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Augustana) – Despite bringing it down to a one-point game with 45 seconds remaining, Augustana women's basketball fell to Bemidji State, 70-64, on Friday night inside the Sanford Pentagon. The loss drops the Vikings to 6-20 overall and 4-16 in the NSIC while the Beavers improve to 6-17 and 4-15. CJ Adamson hit a triple of her own and Burg would end the quarter with a free throw, but the visitors remained ahead 21-12. Kelsey Willems and Burg hit back-to-back layups to open the second and, in response, BSU would push the difference to 10 points at 28-18. Sanneh scored the final four points of the quarter for Augustana but remained behind 39-27 at the end of the half. Augustana scored the first three points of the third quarter and kicked off a back-and-forth shootout with Bemidji State. A triple from Hardy brought the difference down to single digits at 47-38 and the Vikings continued to fight to keep themselves in the game. Grant and Hardy each grabbed a bucket as Burg's layup and following free throw closed in at 53-45 with 50 seconds remaining, but the Beavers took the 55-45 lead into the fourth. Burg kicked off the final 10 minutes of action with a 3-pointer as Hayenga grabbed a steal on the ensuing possession to help put Sanneh at the free throw line. The two teams traded blows until AU rattled off a 12-2 run over four minutes of action. Another 3-pointer from Burg forced a one-point game at 65-64 with 45 seconds remaining, but trips to the free throw line for the Beavers and errors by the Vikings would end it, 70-64. The Augustana women's basketball team will hit the court once again on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day action with a 5:30 p.m. tip against St. Cloud State.

Packers fans aren't going to like this potential landing spot for Jaire Alexander
Packers fans aren't going to like this potential landing spot for Jaire Alexander With the news that the Green Bay Packers plan to release Jaire Alexander, the premier cornerback will soon be able to sign wherever he likes. And to add insult to injury, there is one landing spot for Alexander that makes a ton of sense—but Packers fans aren't going to like it. The Minnesota Vikings already have a pretty strong roster but could use some reinforcements at corner. Byron Murphy Jr. is one of the league's top slot defenders, but on the outside, Minnesota has question marks with Mekhi Blackmon, Isaiah Rodgers, and Jeff Okudah. A healthy Jaire Alexander could change that dynamic long after the Alexander news broke, Kay Adams discussed the possibility of him signing with Minnesota on her podcast "Up & Adams." Pro Football Focus' Trevor Sikkema also named the Vikings as one of their six potential landing spots for Alexander, writing:"This would be a top-tier storyline. Alexander and Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson have been fierce competitors for years, taking the Packers and Vikings' divisional rivalry to the next level. Alexander has called one of Jefferson's biggest performances — nine catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns against the Packers — a "fluke" and has mocked Jefferson's signature griddy would also fit into defensive coordinator Brian Flores' aggressive approach with his 99th-percentile PFF coverage grade since 2022 and all of his ball production (eight interceptions and 21 pass breakups despite missed time). The Vikings are trying to replace Camryn Bynum, Shaquill Griffin and Stephon Gilmore from last year's secondary, making Alexander a clear potential fit."During Alexander's seven seasons in Green Bay, talent has never been an issue. Injuries and his contract, however, were massive concerns heading into next season. The Packers tried to trade Alexander and restructure his deal during the offseason, but nothing ever Alexander signs with the Vikings, it would be a tough pill to swallow for Packers fans—but it wouldn't be unprecedented. Brett Favre, Greg Jennings, Za'Darius Smith, and most recently, Aaron Jones have all made the leap from Green Bay to Minnesota. Alexander could reunite with Jones, a former fan favorite, who signed with the Vikings last offseason and is preparing to run it back in the release is finalized, Alexander's agent will be free to negotiate with cornerback-needy teams like the Vikings. Hopefully, that's not where he ends up for Green Bay's sake.

Vikings Emerge as Possible Landing Spot for Packers Star
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers are hated rivals. Both the teams and fans very much dislike each other, as is the case with most teams in the NFC North division. Over the last couple of years, the division has become the best in the NFL. Last season, three of the four teams were playoff teams. The Chicago Bears were the only team that missed out, although they had an impressive offseason and should be vastly improved in 2025. On Monday, the Packers made a major move that the Vikings could capitalize on. They chose to release longtime star cornerback Jaire Alexander. What better way to get that help than by going out and signing Alexander now that he is a free agent? That is exactly what Kay Adams suggested to Alexander in a segment on the "Up & Adams" show. "Go to the Vikings. They need a corner!" she said. Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema also named Minnesota as one of the top potential landing spots for Alexander ahead of the 2025 season. Alexander is still one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Unfortunately, injuries have held him back in a big way over the last couple of years. He has played in just seven games in each of the last two seasons. Last year, Alexander recorded 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. He's still more than capable of making a huge impact. He would be out to prove himself after being released by Green Bay and would have extra motivation to prove his old team wrong for giving up on him. As for the Packers, this would be a nightmare scenario. They know just how good Alexander is capable of being. Him landing with Minnesota would make a tough situation much worse. Expect to hear a lot of rumors and speculation about Alexander in the coming hours and days. He's a star hitting the market just before the season. Plenty of teams are going to come calling with interest, and it would not be surprising to see the Vikings be one of those teams. The Packers release Jaire Alexander, does he make sense for the Vikings?
The Packers release Jaire Alexander, does he make sense for the Vikings? The Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers have a unique relationship. Their proximity allows for one of the biggest rivalries in the entire NFL, so much so that it goes up and down the social ladder in this country. Whether you are in a classroom with your friends who may have different rooting interests, all the way up to presidential elections, worrying about upsetting swing states with their fandom, the fever runs deep between these teams. Ironically, despite the tenacity of the rivalry, there tends to be a crossover between the teams and their rosters from time to time. Most notably, Brett Favre went from being a Packers legend to nearly leading the Vikings to a Super Bowl if not for an ill-fated interception late in the 2010 NFC Championship. Now that he is available, there may be another notable Packers player whom the Vikings could pursue. On Monday, the Packers released their former All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander. He wraps up his seven-year career with the Vikings divisional rival. Alexander is known for his coverage ability of Justin Jefferson and his honors, which include All-Pros and Pro Bowl selections, as we mentioned. The Vikings showed last year they have no issue taking some teams' broken toys and turning them into their own pieces to get more juice out of them. They did it last season with Stephon Gilmore and had mild success, the key for Alexander to make a difference though is he must get back to being healthy. He hasn't played more than seven games in the last two seasons, but the last full season he played in 2022 ended with him making an All-Pro team.
