User spending on mobile services up 1.1% in Q4FY25 to Rs 65,800 crore: TRAI

Consumer spending on mobile services increased marginally in the fourth quarter of 2024-25 from the previous three-month period, aided by the residual effects of the headline tariff hikes in July 2024 which reflected in higher net revenue for telecom operators from postpaid and prepaid services, showed an assessment of latest data collated by the telecom regulator. User spending on mobile services (post-goods and services tax) increased 1.1% quarter-on-quarter to about Rs 65,800 crore in January-March, as per the latest sector performance data issued by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).Net revenue in the telecom sector increased 18.1% year-on-year to around Rs 633,000 crore, driven by a 6.2% rise in intercompany settlements.Intercompany settlements include payments towards roaming charges and international interconnect usage charges that are settled among operators and partner global carriers. An intercompany settlement is the difference between gross revenue and adjusted gross revenue from mobile services.'In Q4FY25, consumer spend on mobile services (post-GST) rose 1.1% QoQ/ 17.6% YoY to INR 658bn aided by tariff hike. Net revenue grew 0.8% QoQ/18.1% YoY to INR 633bn. Post-paid net revenue was up 1% QoQ/9.4% YoY, as benefits show with a lag. Prepaid net revenue rose 0.7% QoQ/19% YoY, as ARPU (average revenue per user) increased 0.9% QoQ/21.1% YoY to INR 183,' ICICI Securities said in a report.Overall consumer spending on data services went up 1.2% quarter-on-quarter to Rs 56,719.5 crore, driven by increasing 5G data consumption . Consumers spent 86.% of their telecom spendings on data services and 13.8% on voice and other services, according to the Trai data Overall data usage increased 4.3% quarter-on-quarter, led by 5G data growth, which surged 18.1%, accounting for 30% of total data usage. On the other hand, 4G data usage declined 0.5% sequentially and 2G and 3G data volumes fell 14% and 28.1%, respectively, indicating the sharp increase in Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel 's customer upgrades to 5G services.Reliance Jio continued to have the highest share of data usage, cornering 48.7% of the market (up 141 basis points sequentially), while Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea 's share stood at 35.5% (up 5 basis points) and 10.4% (up 9 basis points), respectively.A basis point is a hundredth of a percentage point.

File photo (TOI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the Revised Jharia Master Plan (JMP) for dealing with fire, land subsidence, and rehabilitation of families affected by decades of underground coal fires in the Jharia coalfield of Jharkhand. The revised plan entails a total financial outlay of Rs 5,940.47 crore and will be implemented in a phased manner, with priority given to the most vulnerable sites. According to a government statement, the revised plan places stronger emphasis on sustainable livelihood generation. Families being resettled will receive targeted skill development training and access to income-generating opportunities to help ensure long-term economic stability. As part of the revised package, both Legal Title Holder (LTH) and Non-Legal Title Holder (Non-LTH) families will be eligible for a one-time Livelihood Grant of Rs 1 lakh and institutional credit support of up to Rs 3 lakh. The Cabinet also approved the development of comprehensive infrastructure and essential amenities at the resettlement sites. Last Updated: Bank of Baroda gave a Rs 2,762 crore dividend cheque to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for FY 2024-25. The Bank's net profit was Rs 19,581 crore. Bank of Baroda (Bank) presented a dividend cheque of Rs 2,762 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2025, to Hon'ble Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. The cheque was handed over by Debadatta Chand, Managing Director & CEO, Bank of Baroda, at the Finance Minister's office in North Block, New Delhi. For FY 2024-25, the Bank recorded an all-time high standalone net profit of Rs 19,581 crore, registering a year-on-year growth of 10.1%. The Bank declared a dividend of Rs 8.35 per equity share for FY 2024-25 which is 418% of the face value per share of Rs.2/-. Bank of Baroda Ltd.'s standalone net profit for the quarter ended March increased by 3.3% to Rs 5,048 crore, compared to Rs 4,886 crore in the same period last year. The net interest income—the difference between interest earned and interest paid—dropped 7% to Rs 11,020 crore for the quarter, down from Rs 11,793 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. This figure is below Bloomberg's estimates. The net NPA ratio decreased by 10 basis points to 0.58% from 0.59% in the previous quarter. In absolute terms, the net NPA increased to Rs 6,994.24 crore from Rs 6,825.06 crore. Operating profit saw a slight rise of 0.3% to Rs 8,132 crore, compared to Rs 8,106 crore in the same quarter last year. Provisions increased by 43.4% to Rs 1,552 crore, up from Rs 1,082 crore in the previous quarter. The Government of India holds a majority stake of over 60% in Bank of Baroda.
