Cabinet Sets Up Special Committee To Drive SDGs
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- The Cabinet has approved the establishment of a special committee to coordinate the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) at the federal and state levels, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Tasked with chairing the committee, Fadillah, who also serves as Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, called on all MPs to give the matter special attention.
'InsyaAllah, I, along with fellow MPs including non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations, academic and private sectors, will work together to advance (the SDG implementation) and help the people,' he said in his speech at the launch of the 2024 Annual Report of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia-SDG (APPGM-SDG) at Parliament building today.

He said that as of 2024, a total of 115 parliamentary constituencies across the country have been involved in issue mapping, the formulation of action plans, and the implementation of community-based projects aligned with the SDGs, which paves the way for a broader and more systematic adoption of the SDGs at the grassroots level.
He also welcomed APPGM-SDG's initiative to establish zonal and regional SDG Community Centres, which enable communities to share resources, foster cross-parliamentary collaboration, and build collective resilience.
'This regional approach aligns with the government's policy to strengthen local capacity and accelerate policy implementation at the district and state levels,' he said.
As the Decade of Action for the SDGs progresses, Fadillah said the APPGM-SDG report serves as an essential reference for policymakers, local leaders, and the general public, as it underscores achievements and identifies remaining gaps that need to be addressed.
'The 2024 APPGM-SDG Annual Report is more than just a report, as it is a roadmap and a reflection of our collective ambition to build a just, inclusive, and sustainable Malaysia by 2030 and beyond,' he added.

Works minister denies viral RM26mil gratuity payment letter
KUALA LUMPUR: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has denied the authenticity of a letter dated July 28, 2025, which went viral on social media, purportedly from the ministry regarding a gratuity payment to an individual. He said that the letter was fake and was never issued by the ministry or himself. "The ministry never issued any official invitation for such a gratuity payment ceremony. Moscow ready to welcome arrival of Sultan Ibrahim for state visit
MOSCOW: Moscow is ready to welcome the arrival of His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia who will begin his maiden state visit to Russia starting Tuesday (Aug 5) until August 10. Malaysian Ambassador to Russia Datuk Cheong Loon Lai said Sultan Ibrahim expressed hope that the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday (Aug 6) could open a new chapter in Malaysia-Russia bilateral relations. "His Majesty also expressed hope that the two leaders can hold productive discussions, especially on matters of mutual interest," he told Bernama here. Cheong said Sultan Ibrahim also admired the historical and technological values in Russia, and had even established many interactions with the country in the fields of trade and investment since His Majesty's reign as the Sultan of Johor. "His Majesty also shares the same interests as President Putin, such as horse riding," he said. This visit at the invitation of President Putin is considered historic and meaningful because it is the first state visit by a Malaysian Head of State to Russia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967. Two locations for the visit in Moscow, namely the Russian Automotive Technology Development Center (Nami) and the Tochka Kipeniya Technology and Innovation Center, are also ready to welcome Sultan Ibrahim's arrival. "His Majesty will visit Nami to inspect and explore Russian automotive technology, particularly in the field of research and development. "This visit provides an opportunity for His Majesty to see first-hand the advancement of Russian technology given His Majesty's deep interest in the automotive industry," said Cheong. The visit to Tochka Kipeniya, he said, also provides an opportunity for Malaysia to explore innovative Russian solutions in the field of drone and robotics development through artificial intelligence (AI) applications for public use, security, defence, environment, space projects and biodrones. Earlier, Cheong attended a briefing session on the national celebration event at the Kremlin, the location of Sultan Ibrahim's official meeting with President Putin. Also present at the session were the Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Datuk Yubazlan Yusof, Chief of Government Ceremonies, Prime Minister's Department Datuk Rozainor Ramli and the Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini. Sultan Ibrahim departed from the Royal Malaysian Air Force Air Base in Subang at 8.55am (Malaysian time) and is scheduled to arrive here on Tuesday. Malaysia launches Asean Energy Business Forum ahead of ministers' meeting in October
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has officially launched the Asean Energy Business Forum 2025 (AEBF 2025), setting the stage for the region's most significant clean energy platform ahead of the Asean Ministers on Energy Meeting in October. The forum will focus on advancing the Enhanced Asean Power Grid and mobilising the massive investment needed for the region's energy transition. Organised by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation in collaboration with the Asean Centre for Energy, the three‑day event will take place from Oct 15 to 17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It will gather energy ministers, policymakers, investors and technology providers from across Asean and beyond to explore solutions for a sustainable and interconnected energy future. Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Malaysia's Asean chairmanship this year, under the theme 'Asean 2025: Inclusivity and Sustainability', provides a timely platform to accelerate collective action on clean energy and integration. 'Energy is a vital enabler of regional economic integration and inclusive development. The Asean Power Grid is not merely an infrastructure project, it is a symbol of Asean solidarity and a concrete pathway to enable more renewable energy integration, reduce dependency on fossil fuels and create resilient energy systems,' he said in his keynote address. Fadillah described AEBF as more than a conference, calling it 'a marketplace of ideas, a platform for partnership, and a catalyst for innovation' that will showcase technologies and investment opportunities in areas such as grid modernisation, green hydrogen, energy efficiency and carbon markets. He said the forum is crucial as Asean transitions from the current Asean Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2021–2025 into the 2026–2035 phase. 'This is a pivotal turning point to intensify efforts in accelerating the clean energy transition, enhancing energy security and expanding access, especially in under‑served communities.' A key outcome expected in October is the signing of the Enhanced Memorandum of Understanding on the Asean Power Grid, which will formalise cooperation on multilateral electricity trade, standardisation and regulatory harmonisation. Speaking at a press conference, Fadillah said all Asean countries have indicated support for the initiative. 'The agreement will spell out the roadmap and how we harmonise standards, regulations and the business model for cross‑border energy exchange. Only with one standard can interoperability be achieved.' He added that the details would be worked out at the senior officials' level, but stressed the importance of moving from vision to action. 'Without energy, there is no way Asean can achieve what we aspire to be, a prosperous region with shared prosperity that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable,' he said. Fadillah noted that AEBF 2025 will draw participation not only from Asean but also from dialogue partners in the West and the East, reflecting global interest in the region's fast‑growing energy market. 'Where else can you see all ten Asean ministers and major industry players convene in one venue? This forum will showcase technologies, foster business‑to‑business networking and provide insights into the latest innovations driving the shift to cleaner energy,' he said. Topics expected to be discussed include renewable energy, civilian nuclear power, electric mobility, smart grids and carbon markets. Malaysia aims for the forum to deliver tangible outcomes aligned with the Asean Community Vision 2045 and Malaysia Madani principles, which prioritise sustainability, inclusivity and shared prosperity. 'We envision a forum that does not just discuss ideas but sparks collaborations, accelerates investment flows and supports real outcomes,' Fadillah said. 'Let us power Asean's future through partnership, bridge our boundaries through innovation and build shared prosperity through sustainability.'
