The Delhi Police has stepped up security arrangements across the national capital to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful celebration of Eid ul-Azha on Saturday, an official said.To maintain law and order during festivities, elaborate deployments have been made in sensitive areas, with the Rapid Action Force (RAF), paramilitary forces, and local police teams mobilised.Multiple check posts have been set up across Delhi, and electronic surveillance has been intensified to monitor suspicious activity.A senior police officer said, "Strict vigilance is being maintained across the city. We are closely monitoring social media for any misinformation or attempts to incite communal tension. Action will be taken against violators as per law."The officer added that open-air animal sacrifices, prayers in public spaces without permission, and the sacrifice of prohibited animals are not allowed during the festival."Foot patrolling, drone surveillance in sensitive zones, and enhanced night vigilance are part of our comprehensive safety strategy," the officer added.The Delhi Traffic Police is also ensuring that there is a smooth flow of traffic and people do not violate norms during celebrations.To foster communal harmony and coordination, police officials have conducted a series of Aman Committee meetings with local religious leaders and community members in various districts.In East Delhi , Station House Officer (SHO) Pandav Nagar visited Kotla Idgah and held discussions with local Imams to ensure coordinated crowd management and security arrangements.Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania confirmed that such meetings are being held across the city to streamline preparations.Another senior officer noted, "Delhi Police and community leaders are working hand-in-hand to ensure that the Eid festivities are celebrated in a secure and harmonious environment."

Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday asserted that the process of identifying illegal foreigners, which was "paused" due to NRC-related matters, will be accelerated, even as protests were witnessed in different parts of the state during Eid prayers on Saturday over "pushback" and "harassment" of minorities in the name of detecting illegal immigrants. Sarma maintained that the state government was looking into the details of an old law, which allows it to "push back" the declared infiltrators without having to mandatorily approach the judiciary. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme in Nalbari, Sarma said that a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, while hearing a case on Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, had said that there is no legal requirement for the Assam government to always approach the judiciary in order to identify foreigners. "There exists an immigrants expel order, which is an old law. The Supreme Court has said that this law is in force and a deputy commissioner can give permission for immediate pushback under it," he maintained. "For whatever reason, our lawyers had not informed us and we too didn't know about it. The entire matter has come to light in the last few days. We will now discuss it further," he added. The chief minister said pushing back illegal migrants will continue, adding that the process of identifying foreigners, which had been paused due to NRC-related matters, will now be accelerated. "And when the identification of a foreigner happens, there will be no need to send the case to any tribunal. We will directly push them back. We have been preparing for it," he added. Sarma said the process of pushback will continue, though no person with a case pending before the court will be sent back. Meanwhile, members and supporters of the All Assam Minority Students' Union wore black badges and displayed placards against the purported recent pushback of Bangladeshis in the state. They carried out the protest in different parts, including Chirang and Jogighopa, after Eid namaz. AAMSU president Rejaul Karim Sarkar maintained that more intensified protests will be carried out if the government does not stop "harassment" of genuine citizens. "We have seen cases where the entire family is Indian but one member is taken away as an illegal foreigner. Such acts are against humanity. The government should stop harassment of genuine citizens, else we will carry out more agitations in a democratic manner," he said.

Cow slaughtered in public on Eid in Tripura's Gomati district, 2 detained
The Tripura Police detained two persons for allegedly slaughtering a cow in public on the occasion of Eid in the Chhanban area of Udaipur under the Gomati district on Saturday. The police said that adequate security has been deployed in the Udaipur sub-division to ensure that no cow slaughter is carried out in the open. 'We detained two persons, and we shall take legal action against them as per the law. I appeal to all not to spread rumours. Adequate security was deployed to avoid any kind of violence. Law and order should be maintained,' said a senior police officer in the district. There were also reports of a minority family slaughtering a cow in the open in the Rajnagar area of Udaipur. After receiving the news, a police contingent came to the spot and brought the situation under control. 'We have taken action as per the law. Both parties have compromised,' said a police officer. However, no one has been detained or arrested in connection with the Rajnagar incident till the filing of this report. In a separate incident, a group of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists intercepted a vehicle loaded with cattle and handed it over to the West Agartala police station on Friday. Thereafter, residents and cattle owners from border areas gathered outside the police station, demanding the release of the cattle. 'We bought cows from Bishalgarh for Eid on Saturday. They (VHP) threatened our driver and handed over the vehicle to the West police. Can't we celebrate our festival?' asked a resident. They claimed that they had proper documents in their possession, yet they were made to wait outside the police station for at least 12 hours. In February 2022, the Tripura High Court ordered the state government to prohibit the sale of meat products in public places and streets and said the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) should prepare a long-term plan for setting up abattoirs and slaughterhouses.

Court cites prosecution lapses, acquits builder in civic officials assault case
Thane: A sessions court in Thane district has acquitted a builder of assaulting and threatening civic officials, pointing to lapses in the prosecution's case, including the failure to examine the primary witnesses. In his order of June 3, a copy of which was made available on Friday, additional sessions judge G T Pawar dropped all charges against Vinod Gangasahay Trivedi. The prosecution stated that Trivedi had obstructed a team of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation photographing an under-construction building in 2015. He threatened the official and even assaulted one of them. Trivedi also snatched the camera from one of the officials and deleted the photos, the prosecution said. Judge Pawar said the individuals who were the direct subjects of the alleged acts were never brought to the witness box. The court noted that the two officials who testified, including the informant, were not the direct victims of the alleged criminal force. The court also observed that the police did not recover the camera.
