After 77 years of independence, state-run bus rolls out on 100km of Red Corridor
Nagpur: After a 78-year wait, the first state-run bus service rolled out on a 100km stretch from Katezari to Gadchiroli, which was once the booby-trapped artery of the
Red Corridor
, where neither govt nor combat boots had ever set foot. The landmark achievement by Gadchiroli police and
Maharashtra State Transport Corporation
, followed the dismantling of the 'janata sarkar' or guerrilla rule with the decimation of last standing 'dalams' here.
Chief minister
Devendra Fadnavis
used his X handle to hail the occasion, stating it would augur well for the student community, who suffered in isolation without transport facility. He also underscored development as a harbinger of police and citizen rapport.
The bus service from April 26 is expected to benefit 12 surrounding villages, providing easier access to tehsil and district headquarters and was welcomed with fanfare by local tribals.
Govt officials say the service, which is clocking high footfall, will significantly ease daily struggles of residents, particularly students, who will now have better access to educational opportunities. The service is also anticipated to strengthen trust with police and administration and prevent Naxalism from striking again, said experts.
SP Gadchiroli Neelotpal stated four area committees — Korchi, Kasansoor, Chatgaon and Tippagarh — and two dalams (combining areas committees) of north Gadchiroli were wiped out in July last year after 12 Maoists were neutralized.

"Katezhari had been a problem area for years until the guerrillas were eliminated. Now, commando domination over the area and goodwill generated among villages is a giant step in normalcy in the once insurgency-ridden district," said the SP.
Sources stated Katezhari was once the pivot of Maoist operations. The former central committee member Milind Teltumbde, who was neutralized in 2021 at Mardintola encounter, held sway here.
After his death, the last few guerrilla formations were decimated by commandos.
The initiative to start the bus service marks a significant milestone in tribal-dominated and Maoist-hit Gadchiroli district, where residents relied on foot travel even to ferry the sick to hospitals.
The bus service was warmly welcomed by residents, who celebrated its arrival with music and festivities, said a local resident. The inauguration ceremony was led by sub-divisional police officer, Jagdish Pande, who also addressed villagers, offering guidance and encouragement.
Inspector Ajay Bhosale, in-charge of Katezhari Police Station, flagged off the bus, officially setting it on its route.
On January 1, 2025, a bus service from Gatta to Gardewada and further to Wangeturi was introduced. Over the past five years, under police protection, 435km of roads, 18 roads and 59 bridges have been constructed in the district's remote areas, transforming the lives of residents.

Kenya police clash with protesters over blogger's death
AP image Kenyan police fired tear gas on Thursday to disperse protesters in Nairobi, angered over the death of a blogger in police custody. The demonstrations, which turned violent with reports of vehicles being set on fire, erupted a day after President William Ruto acknowledged that the blogger, Albert Ojwang, had died "at the hands of the police. " Ojwang was arrested last week in western Kenya for allegedly defaming the country's deputy police chief, Eliud Lagat. Police initially claimed he died "after hitting his head against a cell wall." Ruto says 'negligence or outright criminality' led to Ojwang's death Demonstrators in Nairobi blocked a road leading to parliament, where the national budget was scheduled to be presented. They demanded Lagat's resignation. On Wednesday, Ruto described Ojwang's death as "heartbreaking and unacceptable." "I strongly condemn the actions and omissions, including any negligence or outright criminality, that may have contributed to his untimely death," Ruto said. The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has also apologised for implying that Ojwang died by suicide. Assault cited as cause of blogger's death in custody Ojwang, known for his posts on X and Facebook about political and social issues, was arrested in Homa Bay for what police said was publishing "false information," about deputy chief Laga. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? How Israel's Operation Rising Lion breached Iran: Mossad built drone bases and smuggled commandos into Tehran's heart
Operation Rising Lion (coined in Hebrew as Am KeLavi ) unfolded in the early hours of June 13, marking one of the most audacious Israeli military campaigns in decades. A coordinated strike by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Mossad, and Israel's top defense industries targeted Iran 's nuclear and missile capabilities. What set Operation Rising Lion apart from Israel's previous strikes like those on Syria, Iraq, or even covert ops in Iran was its unprecedented blend of on-ground infiltration, domestic sabotage, and remote aerial precision, all timed to detonate the Iranian military infrastructure. These mobile launch systems, seemingly harmless on the surface, were remotely activated at the onset of the Israeli air assault. Their purpose was to cripple Iran's air defenses and clear a path for Israeli jets to strike critical targets without resistance. Live Events Even more daring was the existence of a covert Mossad drone base near Tehran . Situated in the capital's outskirts, this hidden facility housed explosive-laden kamikaze drones that were launched toward missile sites at the Esfejabad base, one of Iran's most sensitive and strategic military locations. Elite Mossad commando teams had already entered central Iran under deep cover. These agents installed precision-guided strike systems near Iran's surface-to-air missile (SAM) batteries. As the Israeli Air Force began its assault, these hidden systems were remotely triggered, hitting their targets with pinpoint accuracy in perfect coordination with the aerial strikes. A senior Israeli source described the planning as 'bold, innovative and surgically executed.' Tehran under siege As explosions ripped through Tehran at 03:30 local time, state media reported heavy civilian casualties, including children, and focused strikes on military housing complexes. Residential zones in districts like Saadat Abad and Narmak bore the impact. Emergency sirens pierced Israeli cities simultaneously, as Iran retaliated with roughly 100 drones, almost all intercepted. Decapitation of Iran's military leadership Iran's state television confirmed the deaths of some of its most powerful figures: IRGC commander Hossein Salami, Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri, and top nuclear scientists, including Fereydoun Abbasi‑Davani. Iranian officials also reported damage to the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, though the IAEA confirmed no rise in radiation levels. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the strike, citing recent Iranian efforts to 'weaponize enriched uranium,' claiming a nuclear bomb could be created 'within a few months'. The IDF echoed this urgency, framing the campaign as a preemptive move to thwart an immediate existential threat. State of emergency in Israel Israel declared a state of emergency as flights were halted and airspace locked down. Oil prices jumped, and airlines rerouted flights. Tehran, in turn, pledged 'severe retaliation,' while international voices from the UN secretary-general to Middle Eastern leaders called for restraint. Operation Rising Lion is far from over. Israel has vowed the strikes will 'continue for as many days as it takes'. Meanwhile, Iran has vowed reprisal, and military analysts warn of a tit-for-tat spiral.

Likewise, the government will also take into account the expected eligible enrollments into Class I and junior intermediate for this scheme, it said. Live Events Over 67 lakh students and 43 lakh mothers will benefit from the 'Talliki Vandanam' scheme. Out of Rs 15,000 per annum, Rs 2,000 will be deducted at source for the overall development of educational ecosystem in the state, involving maintenance, hygiene and sanitation. According to the secretary, this scheme focuses on making school education more accessible and inclusive with a commitment to provide equal opportunities and improve learning outcomes. "The scheme empowers mothers to be actively involved in their children's schooling from Class I to Class XII, while recognising their pivotal role in shaping educational progress," he said. The benefits of this scheme will be extended to all the eligible children, Sasidhar said, adding that government, private aided and private unaided schools and junior colleges will be covered. The southern state has set a timeframe between June 12 and July 5 to complete the entire disbursal and implementation of the scheme. Dubbed as the "mother of all welfare schemes" by the government, 'Tallki Vandanam' is also aimed at encouraging families to have more children as part of Naidu's focus on addressing a plummeting population and 'demographic management'.
