Spain: Curbs lifted after toxic smoke confined thousands
'The fire in Vilanova i la Geltrú is stabilised,' the Catalonian fire services posted on X. 'We maintain 24 units on site. The fire has not affected the adjacent warehouses and we continue to work on extinguishing the fire.'
The blaze at a swimming pool cleaning products firm started at 2:20am local time (0020 GMT) in Vilanova i la Geltru, a town 48km (30 miles) south of Barcelona.
Authorities had told people in the affected zone to stay home, before later lifting the sanction.
'If you are in the zone that is affected, do not leave your home or your place of work,' the Civil Protection service posted on X earlier on Saturday.
'No casualties' had been reported, the fire service said on social media, adding that it had deployed a large number of units in order to manage the situation.
'Toxic levels'
The fire service said it was 'monitoring the blaze… for its toxic levels'.
'It is very difficult for chlorine to catch fire but when it does so it is very hard to put it out,' warehouse owner Jorge Vinuales Alonso told the radio station Rac1. He added that the cause of the blaze might have been a lithium battery.
Vilanova mayor Juan Luis Ruiz Lopez had earlier told the public broadcaster TVE that authorities would lift the emergency measure once the 'toxic cloud' started 'to dissipate'.

19 killed as jet crashes into Dhaka college campus
At least 19 people were killed and 164 injured as a Bangladesh air force training jet crashed into a college and school campus in the capital Dhaka on Monday after experiencing a technical problem shortly after take-off, a military spokesperson said. The F-7 BGI jet took off at 1:06 p.m. (0706 GMT) from the Bangladesh Air Force base in Kurmitola, Dhaka, as part of a routine training mission, but encountered a mechanical failure, said the spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sami Ud Dowla Chowdhury. "The pilot ... made a valiant attempt to divert the aircraft away from densely populated areas. Despite his best efforts, the aircraft ... crashed into a two-storey building belonging to Milestone School and College," he said. The pilot was among those killed in the incident, the military said, adding that a committee had been formed to investigate its cause. The F-7 BGI is the final and most advanced variant in China's Chengdu J-7/F-7 aircraft family, according to Jane's Information Group. Bangladesh signed a contract for 16 aircraft in 2011 and deliveries were completed by 2013. The Chengdu F-7 is the licence-built version of the Soviet MiG-21. FIRE, DESPAIR AT CRASH SITE Videos of the aftermath of the crash showed a big fire near a lawn emitting a thick plume of smoke into the sky, as crowds watched from a distance. Firefighters sprayed water on the mangled remains of the plane, which appeared to have rammed into the side of a building, damaging iron grills and creating a gaping hole in the structure, footage filmed by Reuters showed. "A third-grade student was brought in dead, and three others, aged 12, 14 and 40, were admitted to the hospital," said Bidhan Sarker, head of the burn unit at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where some victims were taken. Images from the scene also showed people screaming and crying as others tried to comfort them. "When I was picking up my kids and went to the gate, I realised something came from behind ... I heard an explosion. When I looked back, I only saw fire and smoke," said Masud Tarik, a teacher at the school. The incident comes a little over a month after an Air India plane crashed on top of a medical college hostel in neighbouring India's Ahmedabad city, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and 19 on the ground, marking the world's worst aviation disaster in a decade.

Bangladesh Air Force plane crashes into school, several killed
Dhaka, Bangladesh – At least 19 people were killed and dozens injured on Monday when a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a school campus in Dhaka, marking the country's deadliest aviation accident in decades, authorities said. 'The bodies of those whose identities can be confirmed will be handed over to their families as soon as possible,' Bangladesh's interim leader Muhammad Yunus said on X. 'The bodies of those whose identities cannot be immediately confirmed will be identified through DNA testing and subsequently handed over to their families.' 'To ensure uninterrupted medical operations, the general public is specially requested to avoid unnecessary crowding in the hospital area,' he added. What do we know so far? At least 19 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in the crash, with at least 83 needing hospital treatment, the office of Yunus said. The Chinese-made F-7 BJI aircraft took off at 1:06pm local time (0706 GMT) and crashed soon after at the Milestone School and College campus. The educational institution is located in the Uttara neighbourhood and students were in class at the time of the accident. The school has students from elementary up to 12th grade. Footage of the aftermath of the crash showed a big fire near a lawn emitting a thick plume of smoke into the sky, as crowds watched on from afar. Firefighters sprayed water on the mangled remains of the plane, which appeared to have rammed into the side of a building, damaging iron grills and creating a gaping hole in the structure, Reuters TV visuals showed. The cause of the crash is not yet known and the government said it would launch an investigation. Bangladesh's deadliest air crash in more than 40 years Bangladesh's deadliest ever aviation disaster occurred in 1984 when a plane flying from Chattogram to Dhaka crashed, killing all 49 on board. Monday's incident comes a little over a month after an Air India plane crashed on top of a medical college hostel in India's Ahmedabad city, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and 19 on the ground, making it the world's deadliest aviation disaster in a decade.
