Russian Senator: European leaders' stance conflicts int'l law

Saba Yemen8 hours ago

Moscow - Saba:
Commenting on French President Emmanuel Macron's statements regarding the illegality of the US strikes on Iran, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov stated that the positions of European leaders have always been inconsistent with international law.
Pushkov wrote on his Telegram channel, according to Sputnik: "Macron harshly attacked (US President Donald) Trump, saying his strikes on Iran were illegal, but this sarcasm was limited. Macron said that France agrees with the goals of the United States. In other words, if the United States acts outside the law on the world stage, this is illegal, but acceptable to the West."
He continued: "(German Chancellor Friedrich) Merz thinks the same way. The position of European leaders has always been contrary to international law."
He added: "Regarding the issue of World War III, some media professionals enjoy talking about its beginning, as if they are eagerly awaiting it. Some of them, who lack sufficient patience, have even spotted the beginning of this war in the Middle East. But is there any basis for this? World wars have been characterized by the participation of a large number of countries from different continents, in addition to the massive armed forces of at least two sides."
According to Pushkov, during the First and Second World Wars, alliances of countries fought in Europe, Africa, and Asia, but in the Middle East, we don't see anything like that now. He explained that "there are no longer large-scale alliances, and the nature of warfare has changed."
The Russian senator pointed out that "Israel and Iran are fighting, exchanging threats, missile attacks, and bombs, but neither is capable of occupying the other."
Pushkov said, "The United States joined the strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, but it is unlikely that it would be willing to send its army there and occupy Iran. But even if it came to that and the Americans made such an attempt, firstly, the success of the United States is not guaranteed, and secondly, this would not be the beginning of a third world war. It would be a regional war between the United States and Israel against Iran and its close allies or pro-Iranian formations in Iraq."
According to the Russian senator, given the limited scope of the confrontation, the Middle East cannot become the "cradle" of World War III.
Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities "have no legal basis, but France agrees with them in their goal."

President Al-Mashat congratulates Iran on victory over Israeli enemy & foiling its schemes

Sana'a - Saba: His Excellency Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat, President of the Supreme Political Council, extended his congratulations to the Islamic Republic of Iran—its people, army, and leadership—on the great victory achieved against the aggressive Israeli enemy and the foiling of its schemes. In a congratulatory message sent to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, President Al-Mashat affirmed that this significant victory represented a legitimate defense of Iran's national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the preservation of its national security. He emphasized that this triumph aligns with Iran's steadfast positions in supporting just causes for the Islamic nation, foremost among them the Palestinian issue. President Al-Mashat stated: "The Islamic Republic has inflicted a crushing defeat on the criminal Zionist enemy, causing immense destruction and thwarting its hostile attempts to subjugate Iran through devastation and criminal operations. Iran has upheld its rights to invest in a peaceful nuclear program and its defensive rights, including its ballistic arsenal and programs. It has also overcome international aggression aimed at toppling its system and creating internal chaos." He added that Iran "has shattered the desperate attempt to impose hegemony over the Arab and Islamic region by neutralizing a capable regional power and granting so-called 'Israel' military superiority. This would have led to the complete domination of the region and the implementation of what they call 'changing the face of the new Middle East.'" President Al-Mashat noted that the Islamic Republic emerged victorious from this aggressive war following regional mediation requested by the United States—which had sponsored, planned, and participated in the aggression—when it realized that Israel's existence would be threatened if the battle continued. "While we congratulate and commend Iran—its people, government, and leadership—on their victory, resilience, and patience, we also applaud the national unity demonstrated by the Iranian people, their adherence to their national , Islamic identity, and their defense of their country across political and opposition forces. This unity shattered the enemies' conspiracies and played a key role in overcoming serious security breaches orchestrated by saboteurs serving the criminal Zionist enemy," he continued. President Al-Mashat also extended his congratulations to the Islamic nation and all free people of the world, stating that this victory serves as a deterrent to the forces of evil and domination globally. He highlighted that this aggressive war was a result of Iran's honorable and supportive stance on the just cause of the Palestinian people and the free world. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

Iran's National Security Council: Our victory forced enemy to retreat, accept defeat

Tehran – Saba: The Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran said on Tuesday that the victory and triumph achieved were a divine gift resulting from the Iranian people's deep and wise awareness and actions, the jihad of Mujahideen, and the wise leadership of the Imam, which forced the enemy to retreat and accept defeat. In a statement, the Council affirmed that the Iranian Armed Forces, without the slightest trust in the enemy's claims, remain fully prepared, with their finger on the trigger, to respond decisively and painfully to any potential act of aggression. Addressing the Iranian people, the Council added in its statement: "Following the aggression launched by the Zionist enemy, your brave and self-sacrificing sons in the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran responded to the call of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, responding to every aggression and deterring every evil of the enemy with rare bravery. Their latest response included targeting the American Al-Udeid base, after which all occupied territories were targeted with a barrage of missiles." He continued: 'Your awareness, vigilance, opportune timing, and unique resilience and cohesion thwarted the enemy's strategic plan and paved the way for the use of the deterrent and terrifying power accumulated by the loyal mujahideen over years of creativity and continuous jihad, which was used efficiently over 12 days of bloody and deliberate jihad, to deter every aggression in an appropriate and timely manner.'
