Bulandshahr: Four held for running over Dalit woman for objecting to rash driving
The Bulandshahr police have arrested four men for allegedly running their SUV over a group of Dalits, who objected to their driving in the area.
According to police, the incident too place on Tuesday, where a woman named Sheela Devi was killed and four others were injured in the incident.
The FIR lodged in Bulandshahr's Kotwali Dehat police station said that the Dalit family was resting outside their house when a group of Thakur men drove past in their car.
'There was no electricity that night and we had laid out charpai right outside the house. It's not as if they were in the middle of the road, they were pushed against the house's wall,' said Bhupendra Kumar, Sheela Devi's son, to The Indian Express.
Kumar explained that as he, his mother and his relatives – Puneet, Manoj and Chandni – were sitting outside, a car rushed past, barely brushing by them. 'Bhaiya, gaadi dheere se chalao,' Bhupendra recalled calling out as the car drove past. 'The car barely missed our feet and a few of our animals that were on the road,' said Bhupendra.
The car would stop a few metres away before two upper-caste men got out and began hurling casteist slurs at Bhupendra before leaving. According to the FIR, six armed men returned in an SUV and ran over the people gathered in the area. 'They drove at full-speed…the car stopped after running over my mother and then it reversed in high-speed over her again,' alleged Bhupendra.
While Sheela Devi died on the spot, Bhupendra and his relatives were relatively unharmed and were treated in the district hospital.
On Tuesday night, police arrested Priyanshu Thakur, the car's driver, and Atul Thakur. The following day Manav Thakur and Krishna Thakur were arrested. Three suspects — Tapesh Thakur, Varun Singh and Ashu — remain absconding.
The police told The Indian Express that the police are ensuring that the complainant's family is safe from threats and actions by upper-caste groups in the village. 'We are conducting checks everyday and have deployed a Quick Response Team and an Inspector in the village to ensure law and order is maintained,' said Assistant Superintendent of Police, Rijul.
Bhupendra, however, maintained that he was scared for his and his family's lives. 'I'm glad the police are keeping an eye on them…but I still fear for everyone's lives. They don't see us as humans at all, they see us as worse than animals,' he said.

KANPUR After the arrest of four people in the Meghalaya murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, one of the prime accused, Raj Kushwaha's grandmother said that her grandson was being falsely implicated and that he was innocent. Kushwaha, 21, was accused of killing Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya during his honeymoon over an alleged affair with the latter's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. 'My grandson cannot do such a innocent and being falsely implicated. The entire family is in shock. I have no knowledge of how or when the alleged relationship with Sonam developed,' Lalli Devi, wife of late Darbari Singh, said in Rampur village of UP's Fatehpur district. Rampur is a predominantly Rajput village, with a population of approximately 1,000. It is largely inhabited by Kushwaha (Kachhwaha) Rajputs. Smaller communities include Bhadauria and Chandela Rajputs, a Hada Rajput household, with the remainder comprising Prajapati, Yadav, Nai, and Dalit families. Raj Kushwaha, now a central figure in the Meghalaya murder investigation, is the only son of Ramnajar Singh, the eldest son of Suryabhan Singh. Ramnajar Singh had migrated to Indore for work around 15 years ago, with Raja later joining him to continue his studies. Following his father's death due to Covid four years ago, Raja dropped out of high school and began working at the plywood factory owned by Sonam Raghuvanshi's father in Indore. This employment formed a critical link to the case, as Raj was alleged to have developed a relationship with Sonam Raghuvanshi. Raj's mother had visited Rampur village along with her daughters for a family wedding around 15 days prior to the murder, but he did not accompany them. Upon learning of Raja's alleged involvement in the murder, his elder sister, Kajal, left Rampur for Indore with an uncle, said family sources. The examination was done by a panel of three doctors at the Medical College Hospital in Ghazipur on Monday evening. Two gynecologists and a doctor posted on emergency duty examined Sonam Raghuvanshi. She appeared nervous during the examination. However, no injury or scratch marks were found anywhere on her body. This test was a health check-up, and the examination process went on for about two hours, said a doctor. After being found normal, she was taken to the court from where she was given transit remand. Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly killed during a honeymoon trip in Meghalaya by contract killers allegedly hired by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.

2 journalists held for blackmail, and extortion: Noida Police
Noida Police Tuesday said they arrested two journalists for allegedly blackmailing a news channel's owner and extorting money from him. A senior police officer told The Indian Express, 'The accused had extorted Rs 2.26 crore from the owner of the news channel by blackmailing and threatening to implicate him in a false case if he did not pay the remaining amount (Rs 62.74 crore). Three separate cases have been registered against them (based on complaints) by the channel's officials.' Police produced the duo before the Gautam Buddha Nagar District Court in the afternoon. They were sent to 15-day judicial custody. The complainant, Jagdish Chandra (75), owner of Bharat24 in Noida's Sector 62, alleged that the woman, Shazia Nisar, had been 'threatening to implicate' him in a 'false rape case' unless he paid her Rs 65 crore. Adarsh Jha — who used to work for a digital portal till a few days ago — has been 'helping' her, he claimed. The FIR reads: 'Shazia Nisar, 30, has been working as an anchor in my channel since 2022. She has been blackmailing me by threatening to implicate me in a false rape case and commit suicide. She has been illegally demanding Rs 60 crore from me. In the last year, she has taken Rs 2 crore 26 lakh through cheques several times. I have evidence of this (transaction). Adarsh Jha… is helping her blackmail me.' When contacted, Chandra said, 'She (Nisar) is a blackmailer. The law of the land will take its course. Her services have been terminated.' The officer quoted above said, 'Apart from the complaint filed by the channel owner, two more complaints were filed by the channel's consulting editor Anita Hada and HR head Anushri Dhar.' Woman's body found stuffed inside suitcase in Ghaziabad, probe on, say police
The body of a 25-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase in Ghaziabad's Loni border area early on Tuesday morning, police said. 'The suitcase was found on the canal road that goes from Behta Hajipur to Banthla,' said Ajay Kumar Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ankur Vihar, Ghaziabad. Police said they received the information around 7:30 am at the control room. A team then reached the spot along with the field unit, said the ACP. 'First, we collected all the necessary evidence from the spot and then opened the suitcase. Inside the suitcase, we found the body of a woman, aged around 25, wearing vermilion and toe rings,' the ACP added. Singh said they have sent the body for a post-mortem. 'We are making all necessary efforts to identify the woman. We will soon nab the accused,' he added. A senior police officer, part of the investigation, said blood oozing out of her nose appeared fresh, indicating she was killed in the late hours of Monday. Since there were no wounds on the body of the woman, the officer said, she could have been suffocated to death or poisoned. 'The exact cause would be clear after the post-mortem. We have formed four teams. Of the two, four are scanning the CCTV footage of the area while two are working to identify her,' the officer said.
