Regular yoga promotes healthy living
Ongole: Prakasam district collector A Thameem Ansariya, Ongole MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, SN Padu MLA BN Vijay Kumar, APTDC Chairman Dr Nukasani Balaji, and others flagged off a yoga rally from the Collectorate to the Mini Stadium here on Monday, as part of the ongoing Yogandhra-2025 campaign.
Speaking at the event, collector Ansariya explained that extensive yoga programmes are being conducted district-wide to encourage participation from all communities in the Yogandhra campaign. She noted that International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21st, and this year's event in Visakhapatnam will see the participation of the Prime Minister alongside approximately 5 lakh people. She emphasised that regular yoga practice promotes healthy living with renewed energy and recommended incorporating yoga and meditation into daily routines.
MLA Janardhana Rao highlighted the campaign's role in showcasing yoga's excellence through daily awareness programmes throughout the district. He stressed the importance of making the upcoming International Yoga Day celebration on June 21st successful.
MLA Vijay Kumar noted that yoga benefits both physical and mental health.
Dr Balaji mentioned that yoga programmes are being organised extensively from tourist destinations to village levels under district administration guidance.
Joint Collector R Gopala Krishna explained that as part of the Healthy Andhra Pradesh initiative, yoga rallies are being conducted at every village secretariat, mandal, and district headquarters level.
Several district-level officials, department heads, public representatives, yoga practitioners, and members of the public joined together in the rally.

NMC yet to give permission for enhancement of medical seats; medical seat matrix delayed
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-2025) results will be out in a few days, and this time, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has made preparations to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET-2025) and NEET counselling simultaneously for admission to various professional courses, including medical and engineering. However, even though the deadline given by KEA has expired, the Department of Medical Education (DME) has not submitted the medical seat matrix. It has been learnt that the reason for the delay is that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has not yet given permission for the enhancement of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical seats in the State's medical colleges for 2025-26. The DME had submitted a proposal to the NMC in March 2025 for the enhancement of a total of 800 MBBS and 700 PG medical seats for the State. However, even after three months of submitting the request, permission has not been granted for the seat enhancement. The last date for submitting the seat matrix was June 4, 2025. The Technical Education Department has submitted the seat matrix, according to which a total of 69,717 government quota engineering seats are available for 2025-26. This year, there has been an increase of 7,650 (11.9%) engineering seats, all of them Computer Science and related courses. Tentative seat matrix However, the DME has already prepared a tentative medical seat matrix for 2025-26, including the number of additional seats proposed in the request submitted to the NMC and the seats available in government medical college proposed to be established in Ramanagara and the Farookh Academy of Medical Education in Mysuru starting this year. There are a total of 71 medical colleges in the State, out of which 12,395 MBBS seats will be available this year. In addition, 3,355 dental seats are available in 45 dental colleges, 39,595 BSc Nursing seats in 650 nursing colleges, 16,441 Allied Health Sciences seats in 202 Allied Health Sciences Colleges, and 5,710 seats in 120 Physiotherapy colleges. In addition, 4,027 PG medical seats are available in 47 postgraduate medical colleges, 846 MDS seats in 31 postgraduate dental colleges, 4,772 seats in 204 postgraduate nursing colleges, 1,217 seats in 43 PG allied health sciences colleges, and 819 seats in 41 PG physiotherapy colleges. Speaking to The Hindu, Rathod, director, Directorate of Medical Education said, 'It is not known why the NMC is delaying the increase in seats in medical courses. Already, the NMC has served show-cause notices to 22 government medical colleges and several private medical colleges that are facing problems, including non-appointment of necessary faculty. We have given an appropriate response to the NMC in this regard. So, we are hoping that we may get permission to increase the UG and PG medical seats before the NEET results. The matrix will be submitted as soon as the NMC gives permission.'

OJEE 2025 results announced, over 55k students granted ranks
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE-2025) results were officially announced on Tuesday, with more than 55,000 candidates successfully securing ranks across various technical and professional courses. Skill development and technical education minister Sambad Chandra Swain released the results booklet during a special result announcement ceremony held here. The minister also announced the toppers' names. This year's examination, conducted entirely in computer based test (CBT) mode in May, saw an impressive turnout with 80,324 candidates, about 86.84%, appearing for the examination out of 92,488 registered applicants. The examination was conducted across 70 test centres in all 30 districts of Odisha. Students in the examination centres set up outside the state also appeared for the OJEE-2025 at Kolkata, Ranchi, and Patna. Manmanth Behera emerged as the overall topper in across all specialisations, leading a distinguished group of toppers in various disciplines. Notable achievers include Jatin Meher in Gourab Swain in LE-Tech (Diploma), Sakhi Kumari in LE-Tech ( and Sagarika Das in LE-Pharma. Other top performers include Anurag Mishra (MBA), S Siseendri (MCA), Ansuman Pati (Int MBA), and Neha Priyadarshini ( cinematography). In specialised categories, Sanidhya Nayak topped film editing, while Hitesh Kumar Dhal, Asmita Subudhi, and Urmikant Maninnandan Sahu led in and respectively. The examination covered a wide range of courses, including various engineering programmes, pharmacy, management, computer applications, architecture, and nursing programmes. Officials announced that the rank cards are now available for download from the official OJEE website ( For nursing courses, the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) will publish the rank list separately in due course. "All rank-holding candidates are eligible to participate in the OJEE counselling process for admission to various govt and private institutions across Odisha," said an official spokesperson. They say comprehensive counselling will consider candidates' ranks and other qualifying criteria for placement in their chosen programmes for the 2025-26 academic year.

International Yoga Day expects to draw 15,000 participants at Mysuru palace
Additional Deputy Commissioner P. Shivaraj has urged coordination among various organisations for the smooth conduct of International Yoga Day to be held on June 21. Speaking at a preparatory meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Shivaraj said the event will commence at 6 a.m., and directed officials to make all arrangements and ensure participants wear T-shirts and track pants apart from brining their own yoga mats. He said a rehearsal session will be held on June 15, and those who are interested can take part in it. Various institutions and organisations are part of this year's International Day of Yoga, including JSS Institution, Mysuru Yoga Federation, and training centres apart from NCC cadets and NSS students. This year, about 15,000 are expected to participate at the key venue, which is the Mysuru Palace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the yoga day celebrations from the Mysuru Palace in 2022, and the venue is one of the iconic platforms to promote not only yoga but also Mysuru tourism. The theme of this year's event is 'One Earth: One Health' and highlights yoga's role in promoting physical, mental, and environmental well-being, aligning with global calls for sustainability and unity. Mr. Shivaraj said ambulance, fire services, drinking water, and other basic amenities must be provided at the venue, and the Mysuru City Corporation should ensure cleanliness and water supply. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation was instructed to arrange buses for participants and the official also sought deployment of additional volunteers. All participants will receive certificates, said Mr. Shivaraju. The yoga day poster was also released at the meeting. Palace Board Deputy Director Subrahmanya, DDPI Javare Gowda, AYUSH officer Renuka Devi, office-bearers of the Yoga Federation, and other officials were present. Incidentally, the Department of Ayush and Federation of Yoga Organisations have launched a slew of yoga-related activities for 21 days in the run-up to the June 21 finale to be held at the Mysuru Palace. The curtain raiser was held in front of the Lalitha Mahal Palace on June 1 and the promotional programmes include Yoga Dhanush, Yoga Unplugged, Green Yoga, Yogadhyana, and Yoga Sangama. While Yoga Dhanush and Yoga Unplugged have been conducted, the remaining programmes will be rolled out in due course.
