Newport have been crowned inaugural Super Rygbi Cymru champions after beating Ebbw Vale 27-18 at Eugene Cross Park.
The Black and Ambers led 17-6 at the break and maintained the initiative to inflict the Steelmen's first home defeat of the season.
Evan Lloyd put the hosts in front with an early penalty, but after fly-half opponent Jac Lloyd replied, Dafydd Buckland went over for a lead Newport held onto until the final whistle.
Jac Lloyd, brother of Wales and Scarlets' Cardiff-bound 10 Ioan Lloyd, broke through for his own touchdown in a man-of-the-match display.
Wing Carwyn Penny was next to cross before Ebbw Vale hit back through Ewan Bowden and Curtis Gregory added a second touchdown before Jac Lloyd put the outcome beyond doubt with a penalty.
Cardiff finished top of the table during the regular season, but lost out in the play-offs that ended with Newport travelling to Ebbw Vale in the final.

Las Vegas HBCU Classic to air on Black-owned broadcast network

HBCU football is headed to the Las Vegas Strip. This fall, the inaugural Las Vegas HBCU Classic will mark a major milestone -not just in location, but in legacy. Set inside the glistening confines of Allegiant Stadium, the state-of-the-art home of the Las Vegas Raiders of the NFL. The game will feature a marquee matchup between two titans of Black college football: Jackson State and Grambling State. But the spotlight won't only be on the field. In a move that marries authenticity with innovation. Allen Media Group's HBCUGo will be the broadcast and streaming partner of the marquee Classic. The partnership isn't just about airing a game. It's about aligning a historic moment with a historic mission. A new high-profile classic backed by a Black-owned broadcast network starts a bold new chapter in the broadcast history of HBCU football. With Byron Allen's Allen Media Group launching HBCUGo in 2022 as a free, ad-supported streaming platform dedicated exclusively to HBCU sports and culture, the network has quietly become a go-to hub for fans who want more than just box scores. They want the band, the pageantry, the legacy-and HBCUGo delivers all of it. At the heart of the game is one of Black college football's most iconic rivalries. Jackson State vs. Grambling has been a staple of HBCU gridiron greatness for decades. Think Eddie Robinson vs. W.C. Gorden. Think Deion Sanders bringing his primetime flair to the SWAC. Think NFL-bound talent clashing in front of packed stadiums and battle-tested bands. Now, that rich history takes center stage in one of the most high-tech venues in the world, placing HBCU tradition on a stage that matches its magnitude. Juxtaposing the timeless spirit of these two programs with the ultra-modern aesthetics of Allegiant Stadium is symbolic. HBCUs are no longer relegated to the margins of college sports. They're thriving, innovating, and now-streaming globally with Black ownership at the wheel. As the network continues to grow its slate of games, pregame coverage, and cultural content, the Las Vegas HBCU Classic serves as a defining moment for the surging network. One that says: Black-owned HBCU sports media isn't coming-it's here. The post Las Vegas HBCU Classic to air on Black-owned broadcast network appeared first on HBCU Gameday. Jadon Sancho offered route out of Man United if Chelsea pass on permanent deal

Sancho has spent the season on loan at Chelsea (Getty Images) Bayer Leverkusen are considering a move for Jadon Sancho, as he faces up to another move abroad in order to re-ignite his career. The Manchester United winger has had limited impact in a loan move at Chelsea FC, who will only decide whether they want to take up a permanent option after a post-season summit. Advertisement Former club Borussia Dortmund are also understood to have passed up the chance of a deal. Bayer Leverkusen are nevertheless understood to be pondering a deal, due to Sancho's previous impact in the Bundesliga. The 25-year-old has 40 goals and 47 assists in 118 appearances during previous spells for Dortmund. By contrast, he only has three goals and five assists in 30 Premier League games for Chelsea. United are desperate to make sales this summer, and Sancho has long been on the market, going back to a difficult spell under previous manager Erik ten Hag. The winger, also has interest from Serie A, never fully settled after an expensive move in 2021, only ever showing flashes of the form he produced for Dortmund. Advertisement Leverkusen are currently deciding on a shortlist of managers to replace Real Madrid-bound Xabi Alonso, and one of those is Ten Hag. If they do choose the Dutch coach, it is likely that any interest in Sancho would end.

Leverkusen sign Brentford goalie Flekken

Bayer Leverkusen have signed Netherlands goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Premier League side Brentford, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday. German media reported Leverkusen paid 10 million euros (£8.45 million, $11.5 million) to secure the 31-year-old's services. Advertisement Flekken, who signed a deal running to 2028, will likely take over from current Leverkusen goalie Lukas Hradecky, who captained the side to their historic unbeaten league and cup double in 2023-24. In a statement, Flekken said he was taking "another special step in my career", adding that Leverkusen are "a top German club with high national and European goals". Leverkusen are expected to undergo a rebuild this off-season, with former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag having already replaced the Real Madrid-bound Xabi Alonso as coach. Centre-back Jonathan Tah signed on a free transfer with German champions Bayern Munich, while midfielder Florian Wirtz is in talks to join wing-back Jeremie Frimpong in moving to Premier League winners Liverpool. The Dutch 'keeper has Bundesliga experience, having spent five years at Freiburg before making the switch to Brentford in 2023. dwi/bsp
