Mangaluru: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bengaluru, organised a '
Consumer Awareness Programme
' here on Friday, and highlighted various aspects of
telecom rights
, privileges, and cybercrimes. The programme was held in association with TRAI regional office Bengaluru, and St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor.
B Rajendra Kumar, regional head and adviser, regional office, TRAI, Bengaluru, was the chief guest for the event. His talk on 'Telecom Rights and Privileges' highlighted the legal and regulatory entitlements granted to telecommunication service providers. It emphasised the balance between facilitating network expansion and respecting public and private property rights. Additionally, the discussion addressed how govts and regulators safeguard consumer interests while ensuring fair competition among telecom operators.
He also gave information about the benefits of the '
TRAI DND 3.0
' app.
The event included sessions by experts on 'Telecom Rights and Privileges' and 'Cybercrime/Cybertheft' for the benefit of students and faculty. The main objective of this programme was to safeguard consumer interests and create consumer awareness. TRAI organises consumer outreach programmes across the country to meet this objective.

Finding Gen XX among GenAI leaders
There are nearly 7,000 active women-led startups in India. The number may seem huge, but it is only 7.5% of the total pool, according to data from Tracxn. In the tech space, these startups have so far collectively raised $26.4 billion, with 2021 attracting the most funds at $6.3 billion. Since then, the number of women-led startups and capital raised by them has consistently declined. The gaps in the tech landscape being headlined by GenAI are already visible. A recent BCG Report said that in India, there are 65% more male executives in GenAI at the head or director level than female. At the junior level, women's representation is 33%, which drops to 19% at the senior level. But there are signs of a shift. Silent biases A Harvard Business School study showed that female founders raise seven times less funding than their male counterparts. Societal biases around maternity, lack of confidence in visionary leadership and access to resources have weighed down the progress of women entrepreneurs. In a fast-evolving technology like GenAI, gender equity is not only seen as an economic prospect but also a strategic need. And being the only woman in a room doesn't help. The need for bridging the gap is now when the ecosystem is still shaping up. Nasscom highlighted how generative AI could be a driver to this change. As per its survey, 90% of women leaders view it as crucial for career advancement, with 95-100% willing to invest extra time in mastering these technologies.

SC panel's inspection reveals breach of forest norms in Mohali villages
1 2 3 Mohali: Acting on a series of complaints regarding violations of forest and wildlife protection laws in Mohali's ecologically sensitive villages — Karoran, Siswan, and Masol, the central empowered committee (CEC), constituted by the Supreme Court, conducted a field inspection on Monday and found several breaches of forest norms. The inspection team was accompanied by Dharam Sharma, principal chief conservator of forests, Punjab, and Divya P, sub-divisional magistrate of Kharar. The site visit included sensitive locations such as Bans Bagh (Bamboo Farm) in Siswan and Forest Hill Resort in Karoran village. According to sources, the committee observed forest law violations at various sites and interacted with local complainants, who expressed their concerns in detail. The panel has now summoned the complainants for a formal hearing as it prepares a comprehensive report to be submitted to the ministry of environment, forest and climate change. The inspected villages fall under the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA), 1900, and are also protected by the Forest Conservation Act, 1980 and directives from the Supreme Court of India. The management of resort showcased the green & eco-friendly environment at the resort being maintained by them and also provided all details of various approvals and permissions along with favourable orders of Punjab & Haryana high court and Supreme Court of India operating in their favour. This project also has an approval under 2018 Eco Tourism Policy of Govt. of India granted to us. Besides all other statutory approvals from various departments like Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), excise department Punjab, Punjab Heritage & Tourism Promotion Board etc have been obtained.
