Pahang ready to implement development plan at seven ECRL stations, says MB Wan Rosdy
KUANTAN: The Pahang government is prepared to implement high-impact development plans at seven East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) stations in the state to enhance the people's well-being and boost the local economy.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail ( pic ) said the plan will focus on infrastructure and public facilities development within 15km of each ECRL station.
"Through the strategic and sustainable implementation of the Economic Accelerator Project (EAP) and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), the state government aims to transform the areas surrounding the ECRL stations into inclusive and competitive new growth centres," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 7).
The decision was the outcome of a special committee meeting on TOD held Tuesday at the Temerloh District and Land Office.
Wan Rosdy added that four local authorities, the Kuantan City Council (MBK), Temerloh Municipal Council (MPT), Bentong Municipal Council (MPB), and Maran District Council (MDM) - have been tasked with formulating EAP and TOD development action plans within their respective jurisdictions.
"The identified development components encompass various aspects, including the construction of Pahangku Apartments, an inland port, administrative and commercial centres, hotels and business complexes, mixed developments, community institutions and facilities, as well as utilities and housing infrastructure," he said.
Among the projects to be implemented by the local authorities are the construction of an integrated terminal and a chain of stalls in Bentong, an integrated public transport terminal in Paya Besar, the development of a smart city in Temerloh, and the establishment of a maritime hub in Tanjung Gelang.
He said the state government is confident that the implementation of the project will drive economic growth, generate job opportunities, raise living standards, and strengthen the mobility network and access to services in both rural and urban areas.
"This comprehensive initiative is a proactive, future-oriented step that will support holistic, balanced, and sustainable development in Pahang for the prosperity and well-being of all," he said. - Bernama

Loke says the percentage of public transport usage in Malaysia has only reached 20 per cent to date. – Bernama photo PETALING JAYA (June 5): The percentage of public transport usage in Malaysia has only reached 20 per cent to date, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the figure remains below the 40 per cent target outlined in the National Transport Policy 2019–2030. 'The national transport policy from 2019 to 2030 is already in place. So, our challenge is how to ensure that this policy is realised according to its intended goals,' he said when met after the Ilmuwan Malaysia Madani Siri 6 forum at Menara Prasarana here yesterday. The forum discussed the topic 'Transportation for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport', chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In addition to Loke, other panel members were President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, and Universiti Putra Malaysia Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. Commenting further, Loke said the implementation of the 'Road to Rail' initiative is currently being carried out in phases and is expected to have a significant impact on the country's logistics sector. 'We are actively promoting the use of rail. That's why one of our focus initiatives is 'Road to Rail' , to encourage more usage of railways for the transportation of containers and goods,' he said. 'When the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is completed, it will boost the use of rail to transport goods and containers to the East Coast, thereby reducing reliance on road transport such as lorries,' he added. PM Anwar: Unity not an option, it's a national requirement
Unity is the foundation of a country's development and is a catalyst for Malaysia's progress, Anwar said. – Bernama photo KUALA LUMPUR (June 2): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today stressed that national unity is no longer an option, but rather a key requirement to ensure the continuity of the country's development. He said unity is the foundation of a country's development and is a catalyst for Malaysia's progress. 'Malaysia will only remain strong if we stand together united. 'Stability and national unity are the basic conditions for all progress. In a world that is rapidly changing and full of challenges, unity is not an option, it is a necessity,' he said. Anwar said this in his congratulatory speech at the investiture ceremony to present federal awards, stars and medals by Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, in conjunction with His Majesty's official birthday celebration at Istana Negara today. In attendance was Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia. Present at the ceremony were the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Dewan Rakyat SpeakerTan Sri Johari Abdul and Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah. Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and members of the Cabinet. Anwar said the MADANI government, under the auspices and guidance of His Majesty, will continue to be committed to implementing a comprehensive reform agenda based on the MADANI principles. 'Materialistic development alone is certainly not enough. In fact, it must be balanced with human values, social justice and human kindness,' said the Prime Minister. He emphasised that the development of infrastructure and public facilities should not be limited to mega projects like the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). Instead, equal attention must be given to upgrading and enhancing essential services such as schools, hospitals, and transport networks. 'The people are not only promised hope, but also protected tangibly and continuously,' he said. The Prime Minister also emphasised that the strategy to increase the people's income would continue to be driven through economic structural reforms, the influx of high-quality investments and the strengthening of the technology and innovation ecosystem. He said every citizen should have the opportunity to progress, regardless of racial or cultural background. – Bernama anwar ibrahim development lead unity
