Toronto man wanted for attempted murder in intimate partner violence investigation
Piratheepan Nagarajah is wanted for two counts of attempted murder. (Peel Regional Police) Peel police are searching for a man who they say is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted in connection with an intimate partner violence investigation. Police did not release details about their investigation but identified the man as 36-year-old Piratheepan Nagarajah of Toronto. He is wanted for two counts of attempted murder, one count of discharging a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of an unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and possession of a firearm. Police are urging Nagarajah to consult a lawyer and then surrender as soon as possible. 'We also encourage anyone who may have had contact with Piratheepan Nagarajah, or who may have information on his whereabouts, to come forward,' police said. Those who locate him should not approach him and instead call 911 immediately. They can also call police at 905-453-2121 ext. 4990.

Man transported to hospital following house fire in Ottawa's south end
Ottawa firefighters extinguished a fire at the back of a single-family home in the 1400 block of Claymor Avenue. (Scott Stillborn/Ottawa Fire Services) A man was transported to hospital after a house fire got out of control on a hot summer day in the city's south end, according to Ottawa paramedics. In a news release, Ottawa Fire Services say multiple 911 callers reported black smoke and flames coming from the back of a single-family home in the 1400 block of Claymor Avenue at 5 p.m. Saturday. According to the release, fire crews confirmed there were flames visible from the back porch of the house when they arrived. A working fire was declared to dispatch additional resources to the scene. Firefighters initiated a 'fast attack' on the smoke and flames and a hose line had to be advanced inside the home. The fire was declared under control at 5:27 p.m. An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson says an adult male in his late 40s or early 50s was transported to hospital with smoke inhalation in stable condition. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the home from residual smoke. Ottawa Victim Services was called to assist residents who will be displaced from the fire. An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was sent to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Firefighters say the fire was extinguished at the area of origin before it could spread to other parts of the home and nearby structures.
