20-year-old English-born 'miracle' winger becomes talk of rugby
20-year-old English-born 'miracle' winger becomes talk of rugby 'Miracle Max does it again!,' exclaimed Stan Sport commentator Sean Maloney. Max Jorgensen of the Wallabies (Image: 2025 Getty Images) Twenty-year-old Australia winger Max Jorgensen confirmed he is one of the superstars of the world game with a stunning display against South Africa in The Rugby Championship. The English-born winger played a crucial role in one the most iconic wins in history for the Wallabies in Johannesburg. The young flyer bagged a try on 66 minutes, and it was the icing on the cake of a superb performance in the wide channels for Jorgensen. The 5ft 11in wing was actually born in Sheffield, holds a British passport and qualifies for England. His father is former Australia international and dual code star Peter Jorgenson, who lived in England and played for Northampton Saints and then Rotherham Titans when Max was born. Jorgenson Jr could have followed his dad into rugby league, with major NRL clubs battling to sign him as a teenager before he chose union. He has earned 12 caps for the Wallabies so far after making his debut a year ago, but fully announced himself on the world stage against the world champions. Max Jorgensen of the Wallabies talks to friends and family (Image: 2025 Getty Images) Jorgensen earnt rave reviews from viewers on social media, and his try encapsulated the performance. A sumptuous pass from veteran fly-half James O'Connor set the young man free on the right channel, before he produced a dazzling step to the outside to score. Article continues below Stan Sport commentator Sean Maloney, who was overcome with emotion for Tom Wright's decisive try in the closing stages, was brimming with emotion once more as Jorgensen broke free. "O'Connor wide to Jorgensen," began Maloney. "He has Frost and O'Connor there... (step is made) "Max Jorgensen! Miracle Max does it again! Is this really happening?!" The try stretched Australia's lead to nine points, and was a definitive moment in the game. Check out the try below. Content cannot be displayed without consent Viewers have also been full of praise for Jorgensen's performance online. "Max Jorgensen is awesome," wrote Scouted Rugby on X. "Seen a few on here saying he's the best winger in the world right now… let's calm down and remember LBB, Penaud, Kolbe, Jordan, etc exist. But he'll be super close if he continues this form through the autumn." "Max Jorgensen could be the best rugby player I've ever seen," joked Welsh rugby content creator Andrew Forde. "Max Jorgensen is a joy to watch," wrote rugby writer Paul Williams. "20-years-old. Looks like a 40 cap wing already." Article continues below "Oh my god, Max Jorgensen's world class, isn't he?," said Squidge Rugby's Will Owen. The result puts Australia in second place in The Rugby Championship table, with New Zealand leading following their win over Argentina in Cordoba. Next week, Australia will face the Springboks again at DHL Stadium in Cape Town where Jorgensen will have another opportunity to prove he is one of the best wingers on the planet right now.

Napoli eyeing loan move for Manchester United flop after injury to key player
Antonio Conte wants another striker with the Serie A season about to start (Picture: Getty Images) Napoli are looking at options up front after an injury scare for Romelu Lukaku, with a Manchester United flop on their radar. The Belgian forward suffered a thigh injury during the pre-season friendly with Olympiacos last Thursday, replaced by Lorenzo Lucca just past the half hour mark. The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but the Serie A champions are worried that the 32-year-old is going to be out for a number of weeks. Antonio Conte wants to bring in a new forward given the situation, with the club identifying a few possible targets. Among them is a loan move for Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee, who has made little impact with the Red Devils since his move from Bologna last year. Your ultimate guide to the football season Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. The 24-year-old made 49 appearances in all competitions in his first season with the club, scoring four goals. He scored on his Premier League debut at the start of the last campaign, but managed just three goals in 32 outings in the top flight. Joshua Zirkzee is not going to get many starts at Man Utd this season Getty Images) With the arrival of Benjamin Sesko at Manchester United, the Dutchman has fallen down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim. He was on the bench as the Red Devils hosted Arsenal on Sunday and did not make it onto the pitch despite Amorim's side chasing a result, eventually losing the match 1-0. Italian publication Corriere dello Sport report that Napoli hold an interest in Zirkzee, thanks to his performances in Italy, where he scored 11 Serie A goals in his last season with Bologna before leaving for England. Romelu Lukaku suffered the frustrating injury in a friendly last week (Picture:Getty Images) This interest in the Netherlands international is not out of the blue, with Napoli linked with a move for him in the January transfer window as well. They are also looking at other options, with Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta also on their radar. The Eagles will be loathed to lose the Frenchman, with other star names Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi also linked with an exit before the transfer window closes. Crystal Palace do not want to sell Jean-Philippe Mateta (Picture: Getty Images) Other forwards reportedly on Napoli's shopping list are Roma's Ukraine international Artem Dovbyk and Lecce's Montenegrin striker Nikola Krstovic. More Trending An update on Lukaku's injury is expected imminently, which will influence how desperate Napoli are to make a move as their Serie A season starts on Saturday August 23 at Sassuolo. The injury in a friendly will be of great frustration to Conte after the manager talked up Lukaku ahead of the game last week. 'He can do even more, because he's a key player in winning the Scudetto, because we bought him for €30 million and the cost/return ratio was top-notch,' Conte said of Lukaku's 14 league goals last season. 'Training after so many years of not doing so can bring him a lot of benefits. He's in the midst of his development, he's one of the team's key players.'
