The 2025 Snooker World Championship final has been fought about between Zhao Xintong and Mark Williams over the past two days, with the Chinese superstar looking imperious throughout.
The 49th annual event, held at the Crucible in Sheffield, is the longest-running professional snooker event and there is a total prize fund of £2,395,000 available to competing players.
Last year, winner Kyren Wilson pocketed a cool £500,000 after beating Welshman Jak Jones. It was his first world title, and a surprising one too, coming into the tournament as an underdog following an underwhelming campaign.
For the 2025 edition, the winner also picks up £500,000. The second-paced player still collects a cool £200,000.
Even those who lost at the semi-final stage - Ronnie O'Sullivan and Judd Trump - went home with £100,000. It's then down to £50,000 for the quarter-finalists and £30,000 for those who made the last 16.

Similar to darts, there is also money on the line for highest break, with three maximum 147s seen this year. The prize money for highest break is £15,000.
Jackson Page broke records when he produced two 147 breaks in the same match, and he'll now have to share that prize money with Mark Allen, who produced one 147 in the second round.

Ex-World Snooker Champ maverick Luca Brecel fails to show up for start of season after going public with new girlfriend
LUCA BRECEL did not bother to turn up for the first day of the new snooker season and will miss out on a mega-money Chinese takeaway. The Belgian Bullet has fallen a long way since becoming champion of the world in thrilling style in May 2023. 3 3 3 The 2025-26 baize campaign began on Sunday with Wuhan Open qualifying and Brecel, 30, was due to play Pakistani Haris Tahir. It was scheduled to take place at 2.30pm at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester. Yet Brecel, who has fallen to 39th on the WST list, appears not to have been in the country. So, a 5-0 walkover was awarded to his opponent, who secured a spot in the main draw in the Far East. On Saturday, he posted images of himself with his reported new girlfriend and hours before his match he uploaded a photo of pizzas and two wine glasses. If anything, it suggested he was not necessarily in the mood for break-building. It is another sorry situation for a potting maverick who lives by his own rules. His absence means he will not take part in the Wuhan Open, which takes place in the last week of August and has a top prize of about £140,000. Former world champions Mark Williams, Shaun Murphy and John Higgins all made the effort to play over the weekend despite qualifying being behind closed doors. During the World Championship, Brecel flew to Sheffield, from Holland via East Midlands Airport, on the day of his second-round clash with Ding Junhui. That is because he did not want to stay the night before in a hotel in South Yorkshire. Amazingly, he dominated the opening session 7-1 against Ding even though he had only arrived in the UK a few hours earlier.

The tennis ace faces Czech opponent Jiri Lehecka in West Kensington today with a prize pot of £350,773 up for grabs for the winner. Alcaraz is fresh from beating Jannik Sinner in a thrilling French Open final at Roland Garros where he fought back from an almost impossible position to beat the Italian in the latest instalment of their rivalry. Novak Djokovic views both players as beneficial to the sport, saying: "They're definitely great for tennis, both of them. I think their rivalry is something that our sport needs, no doubt. "The way they are playing and approaching tennis life, I think they are going to have very successful careers in the next years." Alcaraz, with his status as a two-time Wimbledon champion and a reported net worth of £35.6million, had high praise for his opponent Sinner, saying: "He's the best tennis player right now. I mean, he's destroying every opponent." His relationships have notably come into focus amid his rising profile in the world of tennis. After clinching his latest Wimbledon title, the tennis world buzzed with curiosity about Alcaraz's rapport with British tennis star Emma Raducanu, who was seen supporting him from Centre Court. She also came to see him play in the last four at Queen's on Saturday, being pictured on the Queen's balcony. After securing his 17th win in succession, Alcaraz beamed: "I saw on social media she came up to watch my match. I'm just glad. "I mean, I was focused on the match. I didn't see her afterwards. I am just glad that she came to support me, to watch my match. Yeah, I think it was great having her in the stands." Alcaraz expressed his enthusiasm to support her at a match before the US Open, saying: "It depends on the schedule, obviously. I have practices. I have matches. "Yeah, I would love to, yeah, if I have time, if I'm at the club or I don't have anything else to do, yeah, I would love to come and watch her. I'm watching her matches from the TV every time that I can. So watching her for real could be fun." Alcaraz and Raducanu will be paired with each other at the US Open later this year. Alcaraz said of their partnership: "I'm super excited about it. I think it's going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament. I was thinking that I couldn't play better if it wasn't with Emma. "I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request. She took a while to respond. Not that much, not that much! But obviously she had to ask, and she had to think a little bit. But it wasn't a minute! "I have known Emma for a really long time. I have a really good relationship with her. We are gonna enjoy it for sure. We will try to win. But obviously it's going to be really, really fun." Alcaraz previously dated within the tennis circle, and was linked with fellow Spanish player Maria Gonzalez Gimenez of Murcia Tennis Club, known for participating in Spanish Masters and ATP Challenger tournaments. The details of their time together are somewhat unclear, but Maria, who juggles a law degree at the University of Murcia with her tennis, is thought to have been in a long-term relationship with Alcaraz before their split. A picture capturing an intimate moment between them was even shared on his Instagram story, as highlighted by Tennis Tonic. However, the Spanish prodigy has confirmed he is currently single. Addressing questions about his personal life, he affirmed: "No, I am single. I am looking for someone." In discussing the end of their relationship, he mentioned: "It can be difficult as a tennis player to meet the right person because you are travelling all the time." Alcaraz boasts a portfolio of impressive endorsements, including a decade-long deal with Nike purportedly valued at £12million to £15.8million annually. Article continues below His partnerships extend to Babolat, BMW Group, LVMH and Rolex, and he also represents Saudi Arabia's tennis federation as an ambassador.

'I'll never forget my final conversation with Shane Warne - his death shocked me'
'I'll never forget my final conversation with Shane Warne - his death shocked me' Shane Warne and Phil Tufnell were on opposite sides during the 1990s, and the pair often locked horns, but they still shared a close friendship away from the cricket field Shane Warne passed away on back in 2022 after suffering a heart attack (Image: Popperfoto via Getty Images ) After numerous memorable encounters with Shane Warne, former England cricketer Phil Tufnell's last interaction with the Australian was rather unassuming. With his charming personality, bamboozling spinning ability and habit of finding himself in the headlines, Tufnell, 59, could be considered England's answer to Warne. While Tufnell might not have sported an earring or the bleach blonde hair that gave Warne his movie-star looks, he nevertheless had the skill to bewilder batsmen and make the ball turn on command. Notably, Tufnell eclipsed Warne during the 1997 Ashes by securing 11 wickets compared to the Aussie's four, leading England to a narrow 19-run win in the sixth test against Australia. Friendship blossomed between the two after their international cricket careers ended, with both contributing their insights to media coverage. The world, along with Tufnell, was shocked by Warne's sudden death due to a heart attack at age 52 on March 4, 2022. Tufnell reflects on his final words with Warne fondly. It was simply a routine farewell post-match, followed by a light-hearted confirmation that they both had cigarettes on hand. Speaking at the launch of The Overlap and Betfair's Stick to Cricket show, Tufnell told the Mirror: "I do a little bit actually (remember his last conversation with Warne). "I think we were at a cricket match. We have a breakout group there, so we're BBC and he was at Sky. As usual, we all meet up for a fag, we both used to smoke. I tell you what, it was one of those where we were just chatting. Article continues below "It was virtually, 'Oh, well, see you later. See you next year. Cheers mate. You got a fag, yeah? Alright! Cheers mate. Ta, bye.' Warne and Tufnell had many battles on the field (Image: Popperfoto via Getty Images ) "Then, shortly afterwards (when news of the death was confirmed), it was like, 'F***, what?' That was the shock. We just couldn't believe it." Warne's sudden passing while on holiday in Thailand was deeply felt across the sport. Tufnell recalled exactly where he was when he heard the devastating news. He said: "I was driving along in my car and I thought they'd got it wrong. I thought they'd got it wrong because I think Rod Marsh, the legendary Australian wicket-keeper, had passed away two or three days beforehand. Tufnell will be starring on Betfair's Stick to Cricket show (Image: Betfair/Stick to Cricket podcast ) "I thought they had got that (Warne's death) wrong on the radio. Then I turned to another channel and they said it again. "I stopped the car. Stopped the car. I had been working with him not so long ago in the media centre at a cricket match, just chatting to him. I just couldn't believe it." Warne is universally recognised as the finest leg spinner in history, concluding his illustrious career with a tally of 708 wickets, second only to Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan, who bagged 800. Article continues below Betfair are set for a big summer and winter of cricket, launching a new show with The Overlap: Stick to Cricket. Don't miss the first episode next week, where the team will be reviewing the opening test of the series between England and India.
