Tourist airlifted to hospital after being mauled by shark while spearfishing in Bahamas
The 63-year-old man was attacked by a shark while spearfishing in the Bahamas on Sunday, and was airlifted to a US hospital after suffering severe injuries, authorities said A holidaymaker was airlifted to a US hospital on Sunday after he was savagely attacked by a shark while spearfishing in the Bahamas, according to authorities. The 63 year old tourist from America was attacked shortly after 1pm local time near Big Grand Cay on the island of Abaco, as per a statement shared on the Royal Bahamas Police Force's Facebook page. The man sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to a local clinic before being airlifted. Abaco is situated about 200 miles east of Miami, Florida. The Mirror has reached out to the Royal Bahamas police for further information While shark attacks are historically most common off the coasts of the U.S., Australia, South Africa and Brazil, the Bahamas still has one of the highest rates of shark attacks globally. Despite being the country with the ninth-highest attack rate, such incidents are still extremely rare, reports the Mirror US. According to the International Shark Attack File (ISAF), there have been 34 unprovoked shark attacks in the Bahamas since 1580, equating to roughly one attack every 13 years. Although shark sightings can be relatively frequent in parts of the U.S. and Caribbean, statistics show that the likelihood of being bitten is low. In 2024, a mere 47 individuals were victims of unprovoked shark attacks, marking the lowest figure in approximately three decades, according to the ISAF. Out of these incidents, only four tragically resulted in fatalities. This represented a significant decrease of about a third from 2023, with experts dubbing 2024 as "an exceptionally calm year for shark bites." The U.S. was the site of 28 of last year's shark attacks, spread across six states. Florida, known for its extensive coastline and warm waters, was the hotspot for half of all U.S. attacks, making human-shark encounters more frequent. Australia recorded nine shark bites last year, while 10 other countries or territories each reported one incident. In February, a shark attack at Bimini Bay, a popular resort area in the Bahamas, left two American tourists injured. "Initial reports indicate that the victims, both USA residents, sustained injuries while swimming in the waters at Bimini Bay," stated a press release from the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Both tourists received initial treatment at a nearby clinic before being airlifted to New Providence, another Bahamian island, according to the statement. The police noted that one of the victims had suffered serious injuries.

Single photo proves there is hope after unimaginable tragedy struck the Abdallah family: 'They are my greatest blessing'
The parents of three children who were killed in the Oatlands crash have shared a powerful family portrait. Danny Abdallah and his wife Leila shared a photograph to Facebook on Sunday showing the parents standing alongside their five children. The family were all dressed in white and posed behind a photograph of Sienna, 8, Angelina, 12, and Antony, 13. The trio, along with their cousin Veronique Sakr, 11, were killed instantly in the horrific crash that unfolded in Oatlands, western Sydney, on February 1, 2020. Eleven-year-old Charbel Kassas, who was another child in the group of seven kids struck down by the car, was badly injured and spent two months in a coma, while the driver Samuel William Davidson was jailed. The Abdallahs have had two baby girls since the tragedy and shared a powerful message along with the latest family portrait. 'My family is my greatest blessing, filling my life with love, strength, and joy. Antony, Angelina and Sienna are present with us in everything we do,' the caption read. It comes after Danny was seen embracing Davidson as the pair met inside Cessnock Correctional Centre in a Spotlight segment aired on Channel Seven on Sunday night. Davidson had been drunk, high on drugs and speeding when he ploughed into the group of seven children, who were out getting ice cream. Danny and his wife Leila previously explained how they forgave Davidson so as not to 'hold onto hate' for the sake of their remaining children, but just how deep that goes was revealed in the extraordinary meeting. Davidson, 34, had been sentenced to 20 years in prison with a non-parole period of 15 years, but Danny revealed that, if it were up to him, he would see him released tomorrow. 'Whether it's 100 years or one day, it's not going to make me feel any different,' Danny told Seven News Spotlight. He explained his focus was on his children and that whether Davidson was in jail or not made no difference, but he understood that 'justice was more for the community, to see that this type of behaviour is punished'. The two also prayed together during the visit. Davidson previously revealed how he converted to become a Maronite Catholic, the same religion Danny and his family follow, largely due to how they had forgiven him. Davidson also apologised to Danny, his family, emergency service workers who attended the scene, neighbours who witnessed the crash and the wider community, before he shared a warning to not get behind the wheel while intoxicated. In the interview, Davidson also opened up about his hard-drinking lifestyle before the incident, pledging those days were behind him. 'It's a shame that I had to enjoy life under the influence of alcohol or anything like that to enjoy it, because I can tell you my thoughts about that are completely different now,' he told the program. Davidson, who spends up to 17 hours a day inside his cell, said it was important to him to keep a clean cell, the way he would at home. 'I do try and keep it that way because I just think it looks better and yeah, it just makes it more homely. Yeah, I was like that on the outside too,' he said. With a decade still to serve, Davidson said he longed to be able to open and close a door for himself when he is finally freed from custody. 'I've had a dream where I was waiting for a door to open at home. At home you just open a door, you know?' he said. 'Here you've got to wait for a door … freely opening it – I can't wait,' he said. Danny has attributed his decision to forgive Davidson to his Christian faith, but he added it was also necessary for the sake of his marriage and surviving children. 'At the end of the day, I've still got three other kids. I need to be a father too and I need to be a husband to my wife, and it's already hard enough,' he said. Initially, he began speaking with Davidson because he 'needed closure'. But he said he also liked 'confrontation' and needed Davidson to know who he was and the hurt he had caused the family and why they had chosen to forgive him. The Abdallah and Sakr families in 2024 unveiled a permanent memorial to their children at the crash site outside Oatlands Golf Club. Danny and Leila also founded i4give Day, which occurs on February 1 each year, and marks the date of the crash.

Terrifying moment illegal migrant makes rogue U-turn in semi-truck before crashing into minivan and killing three people
Terrifying footage has emerged of the moment an illegal migrant driving a huge semi-truck caused a tragic crash which left three people dead. Harjinder Singh was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide for the horrific crash in Florida last Tuesday. Video from inside his enormous semi-truck shows the moment he casually began performing a U-turn on a highway, failing to consider other cars on the road traveling at speed. As he took up the entire highway, a minivan crashed directly into the side of the truck, unable to break quick enough to prevent the tragedy. Two passengers were killed on impact, while the driver was rushed to hospital and later declared dead. The area in which Singh was attempting to perform the U-turn was an 'official use only' pass. Singh is understood to have arrived in the United States illegally in 2018 after crossing the Mexican border. He obtained a commercial driver's license in California. Another one of @charliekirk11 's H-visa immigrants just killed three people by making an illegal U-turn on a Florida highway. He possessed a valid CDL and, according to Charlie, is just as American as you. — Tom Hennessy (@Tomhennessey69) August 17, 2025 'Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever,' Dave Kerner from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said. 'Harjinder Singh is in custody on state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations. 'He will no longer be able to damage and destroy the lives of Floridians and visitors.' In the video, Singh remained calm as it became apparent the minivan had been completely demolished, with debris strewn across the highway. Singh is currently being held on an ICE detainer.
