Commentator Chip Caray's shocking slip of the tongue during Pride night commercial goes viral

Daily Mail4 hours ago

A baseball commentator suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue at the worst possible time on Saturday.
St. Louis Cardinals announcer Chip Caray was asked to read a Disability Pride promo during the fourth inning of their game against the Cincinnati Reds.
But he accidentally mispronounced 'flag', turning the word into an unintentional homophobic slur.
'Disability Pride Night is July 10 and with a themed ticket fans take home a Cardinals cap featuring the Disability Pride f**', Caray said before correcting himself to say 'flag'.
There was then a painful silence that lasted around 30 seconds after the mistake as the game continued in the background.
Caray's colleague Brad Thompson finally broke the silence by commenting on a pitch that was called for a ball.
Fans quickly flocked to social media to comment on the humiliating error and share their thoughts.
One posted: 'Uh oh, thats a rough one lol'.
Another commented: 'Loudest silence I've ever heard lol'.
A third added: 'It was an obvious slip of the tongue just a simple apology and move on.'
'The silence after is the apology he's obviously mortified and probably has a thousand thoughts running in his head,' another viewer said.
'He should not be reprimanded. It was literally a slip of the tongue. I highly doubt Caray is running around using that word. People need to focus on real outrage.'

Pacers, Thunder set to clash in Game 7 for NBA supremacy

June 22 - Oklahoma City Thunder star Jalen Williams said the thought of a Game 7 in the NBA Finals "makes the hair on your arm stand up a little bit." Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle called it "a time to celebrate." On Sunday night, the Thunder and Pacers will square off in Oklahoma City in a decisive game to end a back-and-forth series. The Thunder are looking for their first title since moving to Oklahoma City in 2008. The franchise won the 1979 title in Seattle. Indiana is looking for its first NBA championship, though the Pacers won three ABA titles, the most recent of which came in 1973. This will be the 20th NBA Finals Game 7 in league history and the first since the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors on the road in 2016. "As you go on in your competitive life in sports, what you learn is that these moments are rare and trying to duplicate this kind of situation is something that you look to do in everyday life," said Carlisle, who coached the Dallas Mavericks to the 2011 title. "It's not easy to do that. I'm very much looking forward to Game 7." Home teams are 15-4 in the previous matchups. "You've got to be able to weather the storm with those momentum-swinging plays, try to create momentum-stopping plays when you're on the road," Indiana star Tyrese Haliburton said. The Pacers enter with momentum after Thursday's 108-91 win in Game 6 in Indianapolis. Haliburton was a big reason for that, with 14 points and five assists after a calf strain left him as a game-time decision. Haliburton said he remained stiff and sore but said he was ready to go for Sunday's game after playing just 23 minutes Thursday. Oklahoma City has yet to lose back-to-back games in the playoffs after dropping consecutive games just twice during the regular season. The Thunder are 10-2 at home during the playoffs and have yet to lose the turnover battle at home. In Game 6, Indiana forced 21 turnovers while committing just 11. "The truth is that nothing else previous to this matters at all now," Carlisle said. "We're just down to one game and one opportunity. We're really looking forward to it." Oklahoma City superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the league's Most Valuable Player, had a career-playoff-worst eight turnovers in Game 6. "No matter how big the moment or the game, it always comes back to the same things," he said. .".. It always goes back to the things that we know we can control every night. When we do those things, we look like a pretty good team. When we don't do those things, we look like a bad team." For the Thunder, it'll be their second Game 7 in these playoffs. Oklahoma City beat Denver 125-93 at home May 18 to win its second-round series. While Williams said there are lessons to be taken from that game, particularly in handling the emotional swings, he also acknowledges the difference. "You're anxious going into it," he said. "Honestly, it's a little indescribable because I haven't (played in a Finals Game 7). It's hard to give a good answer because this Game 7 is going to be completely different from the last one we played in." While the Pacers haven't played a Game 7 yet this postseason, they did beat the New York Knicks in Game 7 of last season's Eastern Conference semifinals. --Field Level Media

Wings look to keep momentum going in visit to Mystics

June 22 - After a demoralizing 1-11 start, the Dallas Wings have sparked hope ahead of Sunday's afternoon road game against the Washington Mystics. Dallas has tripled its win total by claiming its last two games, including a June 17 win over the Golden State Valkyries and a victory in Connecticut on Friday. Though its most recent win against a struggling Sun team doesn't seem impressive on paper, how they pulled off the win is. Arike Ogunbowale and DiJonai Carrington, the Wings' second and third-leading scorers, combined for 12 points on 4-for-18 shooting from the field. Guard Aziaha James stepped up amid the stars' offensive struggles, pouring in a season-high 17 points and a team-best 7-for-8 from the free throw line. "I've been shying from attacking the rim in these past few games, so I just had to turn (on) a different mode," James said after Friday's win. This year's first overall pick Paige Bueckers has been as advertised. The UConn standout leads the Wings in points, assists and steals per game, and has recorded consecutive 20-point games in their pair of wins. The Wings' bench pieces working in tandem with Bueckers, Ogunbowale and Carrington may be the key to continuing their win streak. Washington (5-8) has had a mixed bag of results lately. The Mystics beat the Sun by 37 points on June 8, then lost to the Atlanta Dream by 33 points just a week later. In their most recent two games, they've fallen down early and had to play from behind. They faced a 15-point deficit after the first quarter against the Chicago Sky on June 17, then held the Sky to 28 second-half points to complete the rally. Washington was down by 13 in Friday's game against the Dream and stormed back with a 31-point fourth quarter, yet fell just short in a 92-91 loss. Washington's top-two scorers, Brittney Sykes (20.6) and rookie Sonia Citron (13.6), were consistent over the two games, notching double-digit points in both. The Mystics' other pieces, however, were spotty. Shakira Austin took over the fourth quarter in the loss to the Dream, scoring 13 points on 6-for-7 from the field. But apart from Austin's 28-point performance in Atlanta, Washington hasn't seen a double-digit scoring performance from anyone outside of Sykes and Citron. Much like the Wings, depth may be the determining factor for Washington in Sunday's matchup. --Field Level Media

Tudor dismisses end-of-season fatigue narrative, Juventus primed for Club World Cup challenge

PHILADELPHIA, June 21 (Reuters) - Juventus manager Igor Tudor played down suggestions that his team are showing signs of end-of-season fatigue, insisting his players are motivated and ready to compete as they prepare to face Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in the Club World Cup on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. Juventus opened their campaign with an emphatic 5-0 victory over UAE's Al Ain, and a win against Wydad would secure their progression to the next stage. Such a result would set up a highly anticipated Group G showdown with Manchester City on Thursday, likely to determine the group winners. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Tudor said he sees no signs of lethargy in his squad. "I don't see any signs of fatigue in the team; on the contrary, I see a lot of enthusiasm," he said. "It's a pleasure to see them enjoying playing together. They started the last match like it was a final. There's more confidence in them now, not just a little but a lot more. They're enjoying what we're building together, and that's a fantastic thing." Tudor, who took over in March following the dismissal of Thiago Motta, has overseen a remarkable turnaround at the Turin club. Juventus were floundering outside the Serie A top four and had been eliminated from all cup competitions when Tudor arrived. However, under his guidance, the team suffered just one further league defeat, finishing fourth to secure Champions League qualification. Reflecting on his tenure thus far, Tudor expressed pride in his players' professionalism and commitment. "I have great professionals who've been available from the first day to the last," he said. "There's been a lot of work behind the scenes, but we've also developed a better understanding of the game and what I ask of them as a coach." Despite the strong start in the Club World Cup, Tudor urged his squad to remain focused. "Juventus should be ambitious, but we must stay humble and work hard with our heads down," he said. "I always tell the players to focus on training and take each match as it comes. Maybe I bore them by saying it, but that's the mindset we need." Juventus' clash with Wydad Casablanca will be a key test of their progress under Tudor, with the Italian side looking to maintain momentum ahead of the knockout stages of the tournament.
