Rory McIlroy returns to defend DP World Tour Championship
The Northern Irishman delivered a masterclass in control and shot-making to claim his third DP World Tour Championship victory in 2024, sealing a record-equalling sixth Race to Dubai title to sit alongside the late, great Seve Ballesteros and further cementing his status as one of the most decorated players in Tour history.
The 36-year-old has moved into joint second place for the most Race to Dubai victories and now sits two behind Colin Montgomerie, as he bids to add another European Number One crown to his already impressive career.
McIlroy has four additional victories in Dubai, and the Masters Champion currently leads the Race to Dubai Rankings ahead of Tyrrell Hatton by 1,109.51 points.
He will spend two weeks in the UAE following confirmation that he will also tee it up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship - the first event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs - qualifying for both season-ending events thanks to that thrilling victory at Augusta National, a fourth-place finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, a tied runner up finish at the Genesis Scottish Open, and tied seventh at The 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
'Dubai has always been a special place for me,' said McIlroy. 'Winning both the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai last year was an incredible way to finish the season. To equal Seve's record made it even more special. I've played some great golf this year and I'm looking forward to finishing strong again in front of the fans at Jumeirah Golf Estates.'

This milestone tournament aims to create a clear pathway for Kuwait's top cricketing talent to potentially earn a spot in the high-profile DP World ILT20, set to take place in Dubai this December. With the ILT20 already established as a premier franchise league attracting global stars, the Kuwait edition is expected to be a game-changer for aspiring cricketers in the country. The tournament will feature four competitive teams—Boubyan Warriors, Failaika Guardians, Pearl Strikers, and Kuwait Falcons—comprising a total of 60 players. The squads will include 19 contracted national team players, 10 junior emerging talents, and a selection of high-performing domestic cricketers, all handpicked by the Kuwait Cricket High Performance Committee based on key performance indicators. Eight athletes to represent UAE at World Games in Chengdu
The UAE is taking part in the 12th edition of the World Games, scheduled to be held in Chengdu, China, from August 7 to 17, with a delegation of eight male and female athletes competing across three sports — jiu-jitsu, muaythai, and triathlon. The national jiu-jitsu team includes six athletes: Mohammed Al Suwaidi (69 kg), Mahdi Al Awlaki (77 kg), Saeed Al Kubaisi (85 kg), Asma Al Hosani (52 kg), Shamsa Al Amri (57 kg), and Shamma Al Kalbani (63 kg). In addition, Maryam Al Shamsi will represent the UAE in the triathlon competitions, while Mohammed Touizi will compete in muaythai. The Technical and Sports Affairs Department at the National Olympic Committee recently held a joint virtual meeting with the participating sports federations to review final preparations ahead of the global event, which will see over 5,000 athletes from 118 countries competing across 34 disciplines. The World Games, a multi-sport event held every four years, is organised by the International World Games Association (IWGA), a body recognised by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 international sports federations. Since the UAE's debut at the 8th edition of the World Games in 2009 in Taiwan where Mohamed Shehab secured a bronze medal in snooker, the country has earned 12 medals in the event's history. Faisal Al Ketbi, a member of the national jiu-jitsu team, won both gold and silver medals in the 10th edition held in Poland in 2017. The national air sports team also added a bronze medal in the mixed category of parachuting at the same edition. The UAE's best-ever performance came in the previous edition in 2022, held in Birmingham, United States, where the delegation secured a record eight medals: two gold, one silver, and five bronze. The medals came in jiu-jitsu, muaythai, and freefall parachuting. Following the 11th edition in Birmingham, the UAE rose 10 places in the all-time World Games medals table to 56th place out of 101 participating countries. Italy maintained its lead in the cumulative medal standings with a total of 490 medals, despite finishing fourth in the 2022 edition with 49 medals.
