Kansas City social media star Alysha Burney dies in Mexico just before 25th birthday
Family, friends and fans are mourning the death of a social media star and Kansas City native who died last week.
Alysha Burney, who has over 4.5 million followers between YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, died while in Mexico just before her 25th birthday, according to public posts on social media by her family.
'I come with great sadness that my little sister Alysha Burney has passed,' her brother Charles Burney said in an Instagram post.
Charles Burney told Fox 4 News that his sister died March 2 after having an asthma attack in her sleep. He described her as a goal-oriented, creative and passionate person who graduated with a bachelor's degree in digital media production and who was working on her graduate degree.
Alysha Burney gained a massive following online for posting skits and producing videos and short films on YouTube and TikTok. She owned ABurneyProductions, and made several short films including Sheisty I and II, Lost Angeles and most recently, Hot Girl Get Away.
He said misinformation had been spreading online surrounding what could have caused her death, but said his sister would not have been in an environment that would lead to a dangerous situation.
'She does not do drugs. She was a self-loving and happy individual who cherished her life and was looking forward to the upcoming year's plans. She was in Mexico to celebrate her birthday. She was a very classy young woman,' he said.

Users also pointed out that a couch in the background of her original video matched the chair's color, leaving Kristin with another question: What other things in her house are gray? 'The couch is navy. The couch was never part of the question… the couch has always been dark blue!' she said in a follow-up video. She then introduces other items in her house that she thought were blue or gray, and TikTok users were quick to share their opinions. 'The rug is dark navy blue. But your couch and that blanket are 100% grey,' one user said. After a few days of realizations and laughs, Kristin sat down to take an online color blind test, though she emphasized she would go to a doctor before confirming anything. The test results suggested that she may be protan color blind, where she may have red-green color blindness. Though the realization was a shock, Kristin stayed in good spirits and has now asked viewers to help her pick a new couch. Grammy award-winning Christian rock singer Michael Tait admitted the drug abuse and sexual assault accusations against him are 'mostly true,' in his first public comments since the bombshell claims surfaced. Tait, the former frontman for Newsboys and DC Talk, said he was living a double life as he allegedly abused hardcore substances with younger men before making unwanted advances toward them, according to Christian media outlet The Roys Report. The 59-year-old addressed the accusations in an Instagram post titled, 'My Confession — June 10, 2025.'
