All M&S paper gift vouchers will expire soon and shoppers are urged to spend them

Marks & Spencer shoppers will not be able to use paper gift vouchers in-store or online from 1 October 2025.
'All paper gift vouchers must be spent by 30 September 2025', the retailer says on its website and on posters in stores.
Paper gift vouchers were issued by M&S to customers up until 2012 and to other businesses to 2016, and are in £1, £5, £10 and £25 denominations. It's not clear how much is left outstanding on them.
From 1 October, paper gift vouchers will not be taken as payment across Britain and the Republic of Ireland, the group said.
A spokesman for M&S told This is Money: 'We are modernising our gift voucher proposition to provide greater security for our customers and provide more ways for them to redeem their vouchers.'
Shoppers can continue to use the paper gift vouchers until 30 September and they are currently taken as payment for all M&S products, including food and drink.
Up until 1 October, M&S shoppers can spend their paper gift vouchers on products in-store, or exchange the paper gift voucher for a gift card which can be used both in-store and online.
If the total value of paper gift vouchers to be exchanged is £100 or less, the exchange can be completed by M&S staff in-store.
However, if the value of the paper gift vouchers to be exchanged is over £100, shoppers should get in touch with M&S's customer service centre.
M&S resumes some online orders
Last week, Marks and Spencer began to take online orders again after it halted purchases via its website in April following a cyber attack.
The retailer said shoppers were now able to buy a selection of fashion items, including clothing and footwear, for home delivery in England, Scotland and Wales.
It said beauty and homeware products would be available in the coming days, with delivery services to Northern Ireland and click and collect resuming 'in the coming weeks.'
John Lyttle, managing director of fashion, home and beauty at M&S, said a selection of the chain's 'best selling' fashion ranges would now be available online, though some customers have reported limited offerings in certain departments.
M&S was hit by a cyber attack during the Easter weekend, which initially affected its click and collect and contactless payments.
A few days later, M&S suspended online orders, and recently warned services would continue to be disrupted until July.
As a result of the cyber attack, M&S expects a £300million hit on operating profit, but the total will be offset by cost mitigation, extra trading actions and insurance payouts.

The Government has defended the Online Safety Act after Elon Musk's X said the legislation was threatening free speech. In a post titled What Happens When Oversight Becomes Overreach, the platform, formerly known as Twitter, outlined criticism of the act and the 'heavy-handed' UK regulators. The Government countered that it is 'demonstrably false' that the Online Safety Act compromises free speech and said it is not designed to censor political debate. Under rules that came into effect on July 25, online platforms must take steps to prevent children accessing harmful content such as pornography or material that encourages suicide. This includes a new duty for online providers to reduce the risk that users encounter illegal content as well as age verification measures in the UK to access pornographic content. 'As a result, the act's laudable intentions are at risk of being overshadowed by the breadth of its regulatory reach. Without a more balanced, collaborative approach, free speech will suffer,' X said. It accused regulators of taking a 'heavy-handed approach' and said that 'many are now concerned that a plan ostensibly intended to keep children safe is at risk of seriously infringing on the public's right to free expression'. Ofcom said this week it had launched investigations into 34 pornography sites for new age-check requirements. The company said 'a balanced approach is the only way to protect individual liberties, encourage innovation and safeguard children'. A Government spokesperson said: 'It is demonstrably false that the Online Safety Act compromises free speech. 'As well as legal duties to keep children safe, the very same law places clear and unequivocal duties on platforms to protect freedom of expression. Failure to meet either obligation can lead to severe penalties, including fines of up to 10% of global revenue or £18 million, whichever is greater. 'The Act is not designed to censor political debate and does not require platforms to age gate any content other than those which present the most serious risks to children such as pornography or suicide and self-harm content. 'Platforms have had several months to prepare for this law. It is a disservice to their users to hide behind deadlines as an excuse for failing to properly implement it.' Technology Secretary Peter Kyle became embroiled in a row with Nigel Farage earlier this week over Reform UK's pledge that it would scrap the Act if the party came into power. He said the Reform UK leader of being on the side of 'extreme pornographers'.

The Volkswagen Group has decided it doesn't want to wait around and see which of its EVs are eligible for the government's new Electric Car Grant scheme, and has cut £1,500 from the price of selected electric cars from Volkswagen, Skoda and Cupra. The government recently announced a grant scheme for fully electric cars costing under £37,000, but it's still unclear which models will be eligible for £1,500 or £3,750 off their respective price tag. It's dependent on complex sustainability criteria – which is why we don't know which models will meet the government's grant just yet. For Volkswagen, the electric cars that fall under the German firm's new £1,500 'Grant Guarantee' include the ID.3 in Pure, Pro and Pro trim levels, along with the ID.4 in Pure and Pro - essentially excluding the GTX from both. The £1,500 grant would bring the entry-level ID.3 Pure Essential's price down to £29,360 and the ID.4 Pure Match to £38,090. ROME, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Gucci-owner Kering ( opens new tab is in talks with a member of the Qatari royal family for the sale of a building in Milan's top shopping avenue, Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported on Saturday. The deal could help the French luxury group cut its debt, which ballooned to more than 10 billion euros ($11.58 billion) in 2024, following a series of expensive acquisitions. Among them was the 18th century property in Via Montenapoleone, which the French group bought from Blackstone for 1.3 billion euros in April last year. Corriere said Kering was looking at selling a majority stake in the company through which it owns the building, based on a "similar valuation". It added that the buyer would be a vehicle linked to former Qatari Prime Minister and real estate billionaire Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani. Kering declined to comment on the report. It was not immediately possible to contact Al-Thani for a comment. In April, when Corriere first reported about a possible Qatari-Kering deal for the Via Montenapoleone property, the Qatar Investment Authority denied it had any interest. Kering, which appointed former Renault CEO Luca de Meo to lead the group from September, is under pressure to trim debt and revive declining sales, particularly at its top brand Gucci.
