India: Over 7.9 million devotees take holy dip in Triveni Sangam at Mahakumbh
Prayagraj: Over 7.9 million devotees have taken a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam (confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati) till 4:00 PM, as per the official data released on Friday.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, more than 200,000 Kalpavasis and approximately 7.7 million devotees visited the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela today.
Meanwhile, more than 400 thousand people travelled through 140 trains on February 14, as per official data released.
More than 491.4 million devotees have taken a dip in the Triveni Sangam till February 13, since the inception of Mahakumbh Mela.
Earlier today, sanitation workers cleaned the ghats of the sacred Triveni Sangam on Friday. Visuals from Ram Ghat showed the workers cleaning the rivers with the help of nets.
OSD Kumbh Akansha Rana said that 300 workers who were cleaning the rivers at various locations were creating a Guinness world record.
She further stated that the message of the cleanliness drive was to ensure the cleanliness of the rivers and water bodies.
Speaking to ANI, Rana said, "A Guinness world record is being created here, where 300 sanitation workers are engaged in river cleaning at various locations. We want to send a message to ensure the cleanliness of our rivers and water bodies. Tomorrow, we will create a world record in street sweeping, where 15000 sanitation workers will sweep the streets together..."
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued strict directives regarding traffic management at Maha Kumbh, emphasising that officers will be held accountable in case of congestion.
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) issued a statement saying, "CM Yogi Adityanath has given strict instructions regarding traffic management in Mahakumbh. Senior officers should come on the road themselves. There should be no traffic jams anywhere in Prayagraj Mahakumbh Nagar, Prayagraj district, Ayodhya Varanasi, and all the surrounding districts. Ensure accountability at every level. Wherever there is a traffic jam, the officers' accountability will be fixed."
Meanwhile, a large number of devotees arrived in Varanasi on Friday morning for darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath temple after taking a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Varanasi DM S Rajalingam said, "The number of pilgrims is increasing each day. We are using all the resources to manage the crowd, including barricading. Schools up to class 8 are running online. The temple is in a congested area, which is a challenge. There is a crowd in the ghats, too. NDRF and divers are also deployed at the ghats."
A huge crowd of devotees thronged the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela at Prayagraj on Friday to take a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam.

Success rate is 100%, can be 101%, but it cannot be less: Indian Army on early warning radar of the air defence system
Jammu: The Indian Army's early warning radar system played an important role in detecting and destroying enemy targets during recent hostilities. The radar system with long-range capability, successfully searched and detected enemy drones, UAVs, and aircraft. "The radar you can see right behind me is an early warning radar of the air defence system, and this early warning radar is the most modern radar of today. The soldier recounted the loss faced by Pakistan due to this system, "Our army jammed their (Pakistan) air defence system, and they could not do anything, and due to this, they suffered heavy losses." Earlier in the day, an Indian Army major stated that the Indian Army's 'Akashteer' system played the most important role in Operation Sindoor. The Akashteer system is a centrally automated command and control system integrated with air force and army radars. Speaking to ANI, the Major said, "In our Operation Sindoor, 'Akashteer' system has played the most important role. This system is a centrally automated command and control system that is integrated with all the air forces and the army radars." "The enemy's drones came to our locations in a very large number. At that time, our Akashteer system declared them as hostile, and according to their location, the nearest weapon system was designated that you have to destroy them. The Major highlighted the system's indigenous origins, stating, "This system is made in India. It is helping us to destroy enemy drones and aircraft in a good way." Earlier, in a demonstration of India's rising defence prowess, the Indian Army showcased the indigenous Akashteer system and upgraded L-70 Air Defence Guns, both of which played a decisive role in intercepting every missile and drone during Pakistan's deadliest aerial assault on May 9-10. Speaking to ANI about the upgraded air defence system's competence, an L-70 Air Defence Gun operator said, "This gun system is very effective... We showed that we also have a system capable of destroying any target. It can track targets from a long distance and lock onto them. As soon as they enter the effective range, firing action is taken." The soldier added that the L-70 system achieved a 100 per cent success rate in destroying enemy drones during the conflict. "We destroyed all the drones. Its success rate is 100 per cent," he said. The soldier also expressed confidence in the Indian Army's ability to respond to future aerial threats. "Even in the future, if the enemy country tries to attack us by sending drones, aircraft, or missiles, we will give them a befitting reply, and we have the capability to destroy them in the air itself..." Meanwhile, Akashteer, India's fully indigenous, automated Air Defence Control and Reporting System, which intercepted and neutralised every inbound projectile amid India-Pakistan hostilities, is no longer a concept confined to defence journals, but a sharp edge of India's air defence.

UK stands with India against terrorism: British Culture Secretary Nandy
New Delhi : UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy said that United Kingdom stands with people of India against the terrorism. Nandy, who was in India, said that UK's relationship with India is "very long" and "very deep". "Our Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, was very pleased to be able to send his condolences directly to Prime Minister Modi and to send our condolences to the families of the victims of these appalling attacks. The UK stands with India against terrorism, always in whatever form. We know the Indian nation is hurting because of those attacks, and our relationship with India is very long and very deep. Important to distinguish wants from reality: Canada PM Carney responds to Trump's remarks
Ottawa : Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney held his first press conference after winning the elections on Friday (local time), where he spoke about several issues. Carney firmly rejected US President Donald Trump's suggestion that Canada become the 51st US state, stating, "It's important to distinguish wants from reality." Carney emphasised that his election victory and the votes he received demonstrate Canadians' clear desire for independence. Carney clarified that Canada will never be part of the US, citing public dialogue and his resounding election victory as proof. Trump has repeatedly said that Canada should be the 51st US state and even mocked former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the "Governor of Canada". Noting that "there'll be zigs and zags" when it comes to negotiations with the US, PM Carney told media, "I will fight for the best deal and will accept the best deal for Canada". Regarding the trade tariffs, PM Carney expressed willingness to negotiate with the US but emphasised that discussions will be challenging. He highlighted the need for a win-win agreement, particularly in sectors like aluminum, minerals, autos, and energy. PM Carney said, "I do not want to negotiate in public; there will be difficult discussions." Carney questioned the US-imposed tariffs related to fentanyl, stating that Canada has made progress on this issue and doesn't understand why the tariffs remain in place. PM Carney added, "For example, in our view, with the fentanyl-related tariffs, we do not understand why they are still in place. Those negotiations will be complicated." Carney is set to visit the White House next week to meet with Trump and discuss trade balance, fentanyl trafficking, and military spending. Answering the query on what Trump expects from the negotiations with Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney said that "There are some goals that seem to be clear: a trade balance first of all, a stop to fentanyl trafficking, an increase in military spending." Carney emphasised that Canada seeks cooperation with the US but won't compromise its interests. He noted that the world is becoming increasingly divided, and Canada wants a mutually beneficial agreement. Canada has alternative options if the US wants to divide the North American market. Carney said whether the US and Canada would cooperate on sectors such as aluminium, minerals, auto, and energy or divide the North American market. That would not be the right move. But if that is what the US President wants, Canada has other options, and that is clear. " (ANI)
