Cork's Hannah Looney says more respect must be shown to dual players
As the Cork camogie side prepares to take on Clare on Saturday at 2 pm, the ladies footballers face Mayo in Castlebar in a must-win game in the All-Ireland group stages.

Not the only player forced to make a decision ahead of this weekend, Looney will line out with the footballers alongside Aoife Healy, while Libby Coppinger will play with the camogie side.
This is not a new problem for Looney, who has always played both codes. She says more must be done to highlight the challenges facing dual players.
'There was a lot more respect for the dual player. If you look at ten years ago, everything has evolved so much and keeps evolving.
'When I first started, there were male players dabbling in and out of dual, but now it has totally gone out of the men's game, and it seems to be going that way for us too, unfortunately.

'It's fine for me — I'm at the latter end of my career — but I do see it's going to be harder. In Cork at the moment, if you had a 17- or 18-year-old breaking into the senior set-ups, I can't see how they could start out on a dual journey the way things are going.'
In years gone by, some players have been forced to play two games in one day. Looney says she is disappointed more has not been done about ongoing fixture clashes.
'The bottom line is I feel there's less interest, less respect, and less value, unfortunately.
'Even the fixture clash this weekend — a couple of years ago, there would have been huge uproar about this. You would have had the backing of the media, and you might have had the support of the county boards and managers to try to make a change. But it has just been fail after fail after fail.

'Myself and Aoife will play football this Saturday — it's a knockout game for us against Mayo. Libby will be lining out with camogie. Libby is on her way back from injury and is working really hard to get camogie minutes, but she's going to be an absolutely huge loss for us in football.
'It's really frustrating. It's got to the stage where you don't even bother trying anymore.'
In camogie, Cork and Looney are chasing history as they aim for a third All-Ireland title in a row.
This season, it has all gone to plan for Cork so far, with a league title secured and two wins from two in the All-Ireland championship.

Having come close before, Looney knows how hard it is to achieve such success.
'The goal is the three-in-a-row, but you've got to get through each training session first before you can even think of anything else.
'You look at Cork camogie teams of the past and the legacies they've left — the inspiration they've given.
'This is an opportunity for us to leave our own legacy because there are huge legacies left before us. The three-in-a-row hasn't been done in recent times, and it's a chance for us to do that.
'I've tried to do it twice before — losing in '16 and losing in '17 — and it took us so long to get back up the Hogan steps.
'If I'm being honest, it's a huge driver for me — the three-in-a-row. It's something I haven't achieved before. If you chat to other players — Ashling Thompson, for example — she'll say it's just the next All-Ireland for her.'

Players 'put their hands up' for World Cup
Ireland head coach Scott Bemand says he has not yet finalised his squad for the Women's Rugby World a comeback win over Scotland last week, Ireland were beaten by Canada in their final warm-up match before the tournament that starts in England in two weeks' after a strong second-half performance against the side ranked number two in the world, Bemand said he was "delighted" that players are still fighting for a place in the final 32-player squad that will be announced on Monday."There's a lot of girls that put their hands up which is really pleasing," Bemand told BBC Sport NI."The girls are actually getting used to performing with that pressure. It's the nature of what we do. In elite sport, there's always a selection. "You're always competing, and I think over the last two years we've certainly got better in that space."Ireland have already lost influential forwards Erin King and Dorothy Wall to injury for the World Cup, while Aoife Wafer did not feature in either warm-up though, is pleased with the depth that has built in his panel."As that second-half showed, we've got more than just a 15 - we've got a squad and people that can come on and make differences to a game," he added."We're going to take stock of it now and then we'll see who is in the melting pot to get to the World Cup." 'We're not peaking yet' Ireland face Japan in their opening World Cup game in Northampton on Sunday, 24 will then have further Pool C games against Spain and reigning champions New Zealand as they look to progress to the knockout having just two warm-up games in the lead up to the tournament, Bemand refuted suggestions that Ireland will not be match sharp for the Japan game in a fortnight's time."I don't think we're undercooked. I think we're right. I think we've come out relatively well physically," said Bemand, who previously worked as an assistant coach with England. "If you look at it, we're about to go into a competition that's six weeks long if we get to the end so we're going to need our group, we're going to need fit and fresh bodies that are ready and prepared to play, so the more you take out yourself now, you've got to use competition to build as well."I've had the benefit of being involved in the last two World Cups and have kind of learned a lot from that. We're not peaking yet, but we certainly will be peaking as we go through the World Cup."

Leeds' new No 1 declares himself 'fully fit and ready to go' ahead of Premier League debut as Daniel Farke reveals where Illan Meslier is in pecking order
Lucas Perri is adamant that he is 'fully fit' and ready to go as Leeds United's No 1 in the Premier League. Perri, 27, made his debut on Saturday in Leeds' friendly against Milan in Ireland but played just 45 minutes before Karl Darlow came on for the second half. Leeds signed the goalkeeper from Lyon for £15.6M on July 26 but the Brazilian only started training with his team-mates this week after a minor injury initially kept him out. 'Yeah I'm totally fit,' said Perri. 'I had a minor hamstring problem a few weeks ago so they took a slow approach with my return but now I'm fully fit, 100 per cent and ready to go. 'Defensively we are doing a pretty good job during pre-season and offensively, we are scoring goals. We're ready and we are ready to fight.' During his debut in front of a sell-out crowd in Dublin, Leeds fans got a glimpse of Perri's enormous 50 metre throws and he revealed that it took a show of faith from his goalkeeping coach at Botafogo, Daniel Correia, before he started to use it in matches. 'I've loved to throw since I was young. In training at Botafogo, I used to do it a lot in training but not so much in games and the goalkeeping coach said I should start to do this in games,' said Perri. 'Then I started to recognise the patterns of what works and what doesn't but I've had the far throws since I was a kid.' Perri wore the No 1 shirt - which was previously held by Illan Meslier - in Ireland and Leeds manager Daniel Farke confirmed that Meslier was left behind for the trip as he wasn't needed. Leeds begin their top-flight campaign against Everton next Monday night at Elland Road. 'We decided to play two goalkeepers so it was not necessary for him (Meslier) to travel,' said Farke. 'I wanted to give Lucas Perri the first 45 minutes and Karl (Darlow) is ahead of him (Meslier) in the pecking order.' On giving Perri the No 1 shirt, Farke added: 'It's quite normal. We invested - by our standards - a big sum to bring Lucas in. 'I don't give any guarantees away about who's starting but of course Lucas is likely to play a role for us (against Everton) and for that, we decided to give him the No 1 shirt. 'It's not a decision against Illan. It's also for the confidence of Lucas to make him welcome and show why we signed him.'
