Exhibition in Thiruvananthapuram highlights conversations on social issues
'We hoped to address more issues and ideas through the magazine. And then, we came across Sree Narayana Guru's Atmopadesha Satakam, and in it was the word Karu. We looked it up in a dictionary and found that it means nucleus, core, and also has other interesting meanings like black, hard, something valuable, a type of drum, etc. All of these meanings connect with the works in the show,' she states.
Speaking about the artists participating in the exhibition, she says, 'The artists are people we met during our journey with the art collective Untitled Kitchen.
Some of these works were specifically made for the magazine while others are contributions from their existing body of work. For example, Mrudula's poem Postmortem Report, which addressed the suicide of Sidharthan JS, a veterinary university student, allegedly due to ragging.
It wasn't published, but after I discussed the idea behind the exhibition, she suggested this work.'
One of the featured artists is Devu Nenmara, a labourer who started painting with materials given to her by her son, artist Unnikrishnan, during the COVID lockdown. 'When we included Devu Amma's work, the idea was to reflect on who gets to be called an artist and what qualifies as an artistic practice. Devu Amma painted what she saw growing up — the colours she is familiar with, her memories. Even at her age, she is documenting her world, and that act is what we love to consider as artistic practice.
The by-product could be anything — even something an ordinary person may not find visually pleasing — but the act of returning to the work can be considered art,' Thumbi explains.

Gaurav Taneja Claims Bigg Boss Makers Pay Pap Pages To Use Celeb Names For Hype: ‘Logon Ne…'
Last Updated: Gaurav Taneja denies joining Bigg Boss 19, claims makers pay paparazzi pages to use celeb names and create hype. Says he was offered earlier but declined. With the Bigg Boss first look unveiled, the makers are keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. While the official list of contestants has been kept under wraps, Gaurav Taneja, aka Flying Beast—who recently made headlines due to his personal life—is being speculated as one of the top names to join the show. Now, Gaurav has reacted to the rumours. In his recent vlog, the YouTuber addressed whether he is actually joining the Salman Khan-hosted controversial reality show. He clarified, saying, 'Arre bhai, nahi jaa raha main Bigg Boss 19. Logon ne pareshan kar diya hai. Koi PR page hai, usne laga di meri photo ke main jaa raha hoon, aur bhi teen chaar log hain." (I am not going to Bigg Boss 19. People have been troubling me. A PR page posted my photo saying I'm going, along with three or four other people.) Gaurav Taneja further revealed that while he was offered Bigg Boss in the past—before the COVID era—he had other commitments and turned it down. However, that doesn't mean he would never do the show. 'Social media pe aap kabhi kuch danke ki chot pe nahi bol sakte ke 'main kabhi Bigg Boss jaunga hi nahi'. Toh kuch aisa hai nahi, par haan, main iss baar toh nahi jaa raha." (You can never say with certainty on social media that you'll never do Bigg Boss. It's not like that, but yes, I'm not going this time.) In the vlog, the YouTuber also claimed that the Bigg Boss 19 team uses a marketing strategy involving deals with paparazzi pages, who post about potential contestants to build audience curiosity. Meanwhile, the makers have yet to respond to these accusations. What is the theme for Bigg Boss 19? According to a report by The Indian Express, the initial buzz around BB 19 suggested a possible 'rewind' theme. However, it has now been confirmed that artificial intelligence will be a defining element of the upcoming season. Along with AI integration, the show is set to undergo multiple format changes, including a major twist in the elimination process—this time, housemates will reportedly hold the power to decide who gets evicted. A source told The Indian Express that contestants will take centre stage this season, playing a dominant role in critical decisions—from evictions and rationing to task selection. With this new structure, the show is expected to shift from 'Bigg Boss chahte hain" to 'Bigg Boss janna chahte hain," marking a fundamental change in tone and power dynamics inside the house. On Thursday, opening day, the film collected ₹67 crore worldwide, On day 2, that total moved to just ₹77 crore. Of this, ₹65 crore is from domestic business. Sacnilk called it a 'devastating 80%+ drop from its full opening day (including premieres), and about 75% from the pure day 1 figures.' 'The movie needs around ₹225 crore worldwide gross collection to break even, but that target is looking far from reality,' the report added. Day Domestic Collection Day 0 (Wednesday previews) ₹ 12.75 crore Day 1 ₹ 34.75 crore Day 2 ₹ 8 crore Total ₹ 55 crore Prev Next About the movie Hari Hara Veera Mallu marked Pawan Kalyan's first release after becoming Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh. The historial drama directed by AM Jyothi Krishna and Krish Jagarlamudi features Nidhhi Agerwal, Bobby Deol and music by MM Keeravani. The film is produced by Mega Surya Production. The Andhra Pradesh government approved a price hike for the movie--single screens of ₹100 and multiplex of ₹300 and five shows a day at all the screens for one week. A grand pre-release event was held in Visakhapatnam on July 23, drawing a huge crowd of fans and prominent personalities from cinema and politics alike. The Deputy CM, popularly known as Power Star Pawan Kalyan (PSPK), addressed the gathering. He shared his reflections and connected with both his admirers and influential attendees from various fields. Kalyan said that 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' got postponed several times, largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic and his commitments in the political arena. An excerpt from Hindustan Times' review of the film reads: "HHVM has been in production for over half a decade, and while the makers had their own mountains to climb, the film just feels like a wasted opportunity. Where Laxman Utekar's Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava succeeds in making you root for the resistance against Aurangzeb's tyranny, this film meanders while pretending to have a purpose for it all. Does HHVM have moments where you see the potential? Sure. But a story like this needed a deft hand, which it lacks."
