Imagine Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds has ignited a fierce online backlash after kissing a Palestinian flag on stage during the band's May 27 performance in Milan, part of their Loom World Tour.
Reynolds, shirtless and visibly emotional, draped himself in the flag during the show's closing moments, waving it before tens of thousands of cheering fans and planting a kiss on it. The act, captured in multiple fan videos, immediately sparked mixed reactions across social media, with some hailing it as a bold statement of solidarity and others condemning it as a political provocation.
Outrage and accusations
Critics slammed Reynolds' move, accusing the band of aligning with extremism.
Brigitte Gabriel, chairman of ACT for America, posted on X, "It looks like the band Imagine Dragons supports terrorism."
Other users voiced similar sentiments, interpreting the flag display as a betrayal. "I actually really liked Imagine Dragons, but now it seems they genuinely hate my people. It's disgusting how people still view Palestine as a moral virtue when it's all a myth," one pro-Israel fan wrote.
One particularly heated post accused the band of hypocrisy for advocating LGBTQ+ rights while allegedly supporting a territory where such rights are not protected, "Imagine Dragons ends their concert by waving their solidarity with TERRORISTS.
They just called for the deaths of all gay people — and their music career."

Comedian Matt Lieb chimed in with a tongue-in-cheek comment, 'Omg Radiohead has now been lapped by IMAGINE DRAGONS?!?' — referencing Thom Yorke's decision to walk off stage after a confrontation with an anti-Israel protestor last year.
A complicated history
This isn't the first time Imagine Dragons has found itself in the middle of the Israel-Palestine debate. The band previously faced criticism from pro-Palestinian activists for performing in Tel Aviv on August 29, 2023, just weeks before the October 7th Hamas attacks that escalated regional tensions.
That same Milan concert also featured Reynolds waving a Ukrainian flag earlier in the evening, adding to the politically symbolic performance.

Kingdom makers deny disrespecting Sri Lankan Tamils: No such scenes in film
Vijay Deverakonda and director Gowtam Tinnanuri's 'Kingdom' was recently criticised by Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK), a pro-Tamil party, for demeaning Sri Lankan Tamils. Sithara Entertainments, the production house of the film, in a statement denied disrespecting Sri Lankan Tamils in the movie. The makers further added that the story is a fictional one and not related to any real-life a statement, Sithara Entertainments said, "We hereby confirm that we respect the sentiments of the Tamil people, and we promise that there are no such scenes which are involved in the movie that resemble hurting the sentiments of the local state people, and this story is completely a fictional story and an imaginary one, and it has been mentioned in the disclaimer portion of the movie."advertisementThe makers further expressed regret if the sentiments of people are hurt by the film. Protesters tear posters, demand ban on Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom for villainous portrayal of Sri Lankan Tamils
Gowtam Tinnanuri's Vijay Deverakonda, Satyadev, Venkitesh and Bhagyashri Borse-starrer Kingdom ran into trouble for its portrayal of Sri Lankan Tamils. Cadres from the Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK), a pro-Tamil party, held protests outside theatres screening Kingdom in Madurai, Trichy and demanded a ban on the film's screening. Videos of them tearing down the film's posters are also doing the rounds on social media. Venkitesh played a Sri Lankan Tamil called Murugan who faces off against Vijay Deverakonda's Suri. Protest against Vijay Deverakonda's Kingdom One video taken at the Jagan Theatre in Ramanathapuram shows protesters climbing up the roof of the theatre despite the police presence and ripping down the Kingdom poster. Sharing it, an X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, '#Kingdom - banners torn by the members of Naam Tamizhar Katchi to protest bad portrayal of Eelam tamils in the movie!' Saravanan, State Propaganda Secretary of NTK spoke to the press and India Today reported him saying, 'The movie demeans LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) fighters and Eezham Tamils. The protesters also reportedly met with prominent theatre management and only left after they were assured a meeting would be held between distributors to halt the screening of the film. The distributors, however, have approached the Madras High Court seeking police protection. About Kingdom Gowtam's action drama film Kingdom tells the story of a police constable turned spy called Suri (Vijay) and his long-lost brother Siva (Satyadev). It shows a tribe from Srikakulam migrating to a small island in Sri Lanka called Divi to escape the wrath of the British colonisers. The film also explores how the immigrants are exploited by a local cartel led by Odiyappan (Baburaj) and his son Murugan (Venkitesh). Kingdom was released in theatres on 31 July and has collected over ₹82 crore worldwide. It was dubbed in all south Indian languages and Hindi.
