Contract details revealed for Auburn football's 2026 matchup with Jax State
Thomas Ashworth of AL.com shared Sunday that Jax State will receive $1.5 million from Auburn to play at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2026. It will be the second large payday that the Gamecocks will receive in two years, as they are also set to receive $1 million this season to play their season opener at UCF.
The matchup was announced last summer by Jax State, with the date being set for Sept. 26, 2026. Jax State Vice President for Athletics Greg Seitz says that he is excited for the program and for Gamecock fans to experience a game of this magnitude at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
"We're very excited about the opportunity to return to the Plains and play Auburn in 2026," Seitz said in a press release. "This will be a great experience for our football program, fans, and alumni to watch the Gamecocks in Jordan-Hare Stadium."
The 2026 game between the Tigers and Gamecocks will be the second all-time meeting between the two in-state programs, and the first since 2015. Auburn defeated Jax State, 27-20, in that game, but needed to survive a scare to secure the win. The Gamecocks led 10-6 at halftime and led 20-13 in the 4th quarter before Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson connected with wide receiver Melvin Ray with 0:39 remaining to tie the game at 20-20 to force overtime. Tiger running back Peyton Barber recorded the lone score of overtime by rushing four yards to the end zone, solidifying Auburn's victory.
Auburn has three nonconference games scheduled for the 2026 season. The Tigers will host Baylor on Sept. 5 in a return game of a two-game series, followed by Southern Miss on Sept. 12 and the Jax State Gamecocks on Sept. 26. There is no word if the SEC will move to a nine-game format for next season. If the conference maintains its eight-game schedule, the Tigers will need to add one more non-conference opponent, which will most likely be at the FCS level.

Ohio State ranking in AP poll not as high as Coaches
Just a week after the US LBM preseason Coaches Poll was released, the Associated Press has followed suit. And while Ohio State was behind just one team in the Coaches Poll at No. 2, it appears below another team in the AP. The Texas Longhorns are the No. 1 team in both polls, but instead of OSU at No. 2, it slipped below Penn State to No. 3 in the AP Preseason poll. The Buckeyes did receive 11 first-place votes, but it wasn't quite enough to surpass the Nittany Lions. While Ohio State is the defending College Football Playoff national champion, there are a lot of question marks. OSU will be breaking in a new quarterback, will have to replace two 1,000-yard rushers in the backfield, and must find answers for multiple spots on the defense. Still, the thought is that there is enough talent to reload and absorb the 15 starters now off to the NFL, namely because OSU still has perhaps the two best players in college football with the return of safety Caleb Downs and superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith. But ... time will tell. Behind Ohio State and rounding out the top ten in the preseason AP Poll are Clemson (4), Georgia (5), Notre Dame (6), Oregon (7), Alabama (8), LSU (9), and Miami (FL) (10). Texas, Penn State, OSU, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Oregon received at least one first-place vote. As always, preseason rankings mean very little, but it's still interesting to see where the media believes the pecking order is, with Ohio State still thought of very highly. MSU basketball listed among top teams in Big Ten in latest preseason rankings

Texas TechCC: @FDSportsBook, @ Michigan State basketball remains just outside of the top 20 in the latest preseason rankings from one of the game's top analysts. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports has released an updated batch of preseason rankings for the 2025-26 college basketball season, and the Spartans remain listed just outside the top 20. Rothstein has the Spartans at No. 21 in his updated version of the rankings that were released on Tuesday. Among Big Ten teams, the Spartans rank No. 5 in Rothstein's list but there is a notable drop off after the top three. He has Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 5) and UCLA (No. 7) all in the top 10, and then next from the Big Ten is Oregon (No. 20) one spot before the Spartans. Michigan State is the reigning Big Ten champs and went the furthest of any team from the league in the NCAA Tournament by reaching the Elite Eight this past season. However, the Spartans have lost a number of key pieces off that highly-successful team, including leading scorers Jase Richardson and Jaden Akins -- so many like Rothstein anticipate a step back from the Spartans next season. As I've said during most of this offseason, I feel like anywhere from No. 15 to No. 25 is about right for the Spartans in next year's preseason poll. I would be quite surprised if they were any higher than No. 15 and shocked if they were unranked when the official preseason polls drop in a few months. Former Oklahoma Sooners linebacker makes NFL Top 100
Former Oklahoma Sooners outside linebacker Nik Bonitto enjoyed a breakout season in 2024 with the Denver Broncos. The former second-round pick made the Pro Bowl and was a second-team all-pro, both for the first time after the year, and another first came on Tuesday. Bonitto was named to the NFL's Top 100 players for 2025 list for the first time, checking in at No. 38. He shot into the rankings after a breakout season in 2024. Bonitto posted 13.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in 2024, helping Denver return to the playoffs for the first time since 2015. He'd been a spot starter for his first two seasons with the Broncos, but is now a core member of one of the league's best defenses. Bonitto played for the Sooners from 2018 to 2021. As a redshirt freshman in 2019, he had 3.5 sacks, becoming a starter mid-season. He had the game-clinching interception of Baylor's Charlie Brewer in OU's historic come-from-behind victory in Waco. Bonitto earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and was a second-team All-American in 2020 after posting 7.5 sacks, and was second-team All-Big 12 and a third-team All-American in 2021 after finishing with seven sacks. He was a playmaker for the Alex Grinch defenses, one of a small handful of players who excelled on that side of the ball. The Broncos took Bonitto with the 64th overall selection of the 2022 NFL Draft, and he waited his turn in Denver before bursting onto the scene last year. Bonitto is the fifth former Sooner to make the list this summer. He joins Kansas City's Creed Humphrey, Houston's Joe Mixon, Tampa Bay's Baker Mayfield and San Francisco's Trent Williams.
