Aljamain Sterling would love to show Sean O'Malley a healthy version of himself in rematch
Let the former champ rest. But I would absolutely LOVE to show him what a healthy version of myself would do. He's got great skills but I still know that was 50% version of myself. https://t.co/GIeqUmTGGT — Aljamain Sterling (@funkmasterMMA) June 8, 2025
Aljamain Sterling is open to running things back with Sean O'Malley – at featherweight.
O'Malley (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) lost to bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC) for a second time when he was submitted in Saturday's UFC 316 headliner at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Sterling (24-5 MMA, 16-5 UFC), who lost his bantamweight title to O'Malley by knockout at UFC 292, is adamant that had he been 100 percent healthy, the fight would have gone a different way. Sterling faced O'Malley just three months after retaining his belt against Henry Cejudo in a five-round battle at UFC 288.
"Let the former champ rest. But I would absolutely LOVE to show him what a healthy version of myself would do. He's got great skills but I still know that was 50% version of myself."
Sterling just wants his fair shake. O'Malley entered his first fight against Dvalishvili at UFC 306 with a torn labrum in his hip, which required surgery. He was awarded an immediate rematch at UFC 316, but fell short once again.
Sterling, who has since moved up to featherweight, thinks he was unjustly criticized when he spoke out about his injuries.
"Weird, right? Somehow Sean gets a rematch after saying he wasn't 100%. Him and the company knew I wasn't 100% and I STILL gave him the opportunity to become champ. But it's 'coping' when I say it. Ppl are weird and bias. But if he doesn't plan to come up, then he can retire with the win, and I'm fine with that."

Prior to UFC 316, O'Malley's head coach Tim Welch said that a potential move up to featherweight is "definitely possible" down the line. However, it is unknown what O'Malley's next move will be after losing to Dvalishvili in a title fight for the second-straight time.

Ian Machado Garry vows to box the ears off ex-UFC champ Belal Muhammad, gets response
Ian Machado Garry vows to box the ears off ex-UFC champ Belal Muhammad, gets response Ian Machado Garry is eyeing a former champion in his quest for UFC gold. Machado Garry (16-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) took to social media to dare former UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad (24-4 MMA, 15-4 UFC) to stand and trade with him. His comments come after Muhammad lost his title to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 last month, where he opted to predominantly strike with the Aussie. "I believe Belal lost to JDM due to his ego trying to stand and bang when he should have taken JDM down," Machado Garry said in an Instagram post. "Surely he won't try to stand and bang with me? Surely not. I am going to box the ears off you because I'm the best in this division, hands down. Belal, learn from your last loss and never ever, ever, ever try and stand and bang with me." Muhammad responded to Machado Garry with a date for a potential fight. "I'll see you at msg." After Machado Garry defeated Carlos Prates by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 66 in April, he served as the title-fight backup for Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena at UFC 315, but his services weren't needed.

Justin Gaethje Threatens Retirement After UFC 317 Title Snub
Justin Gaethje Threatens Retirement After UFC 317 Title Snub originally appeared on Athlon Sports. UFC 317 is shaping up to be a mega event, with high stakes and elite names headlining the card. Ilia Topuria is making an aggressive leap—challenging immediately for the lightweight title—and he'll have to go through the ultra-resilient Charles Oliveira to claim it. The card is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. But while the spotlight burns bright on the main event, there's one lightweight contender who's glaringly absent from the picture—and he's not staying silent about it. Advertisement Former interim champion Justin Gaethje has made his frustration known. According to UFC commentator Jon Anik, who spoke with Gaethje in May on the Anik & Florian Podcast, the fighter was flat-out 'pissed' about being passed over for the UFC 317 title opportunity. UFC CEO Dana WhitePhoto by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC Now, his longtime manager Ali Abdelaziz has added more fuel to the fire. Speaking with Submission Radio on YouTube, Abdelaziz said: 'Justin Gaethje [should] fight the winner. He won three of his last four. He saved the UFC two times… The guy did so much for the sport. And if anyone said he doesn't deserve it—he said, "I'm not going to fight for the title, I'm just going to hang up my gloves."' 'He said, "I feel disrespected. I love being a UFC fighter. I love the UFC, but I feel the UFC have to love me back."' The UFC, and Dana White specifically, now face a pivotal decision. Should Gaethje be granted the next title shot? Or will rising contenders like Arman Tsarukyan or the surging Paddy Pimblett jump the line? Justin GaethjeGetty Images A rematch scenario isn't off the table either. Gaethje recently bounced back in impressive fashion at UFC 313, where he defeated Rafael Fiziev by unanimous decision in a dominant three-round showing in the co-main event. For Gaethje, however, the time for patience may be running out.
