Strictly's Gorka Marquez suffers facial injury after family holiday with Gemma and kids

Daily Mirror04-05-2025

Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Márquez enjoyed a holiday in Tenerife with his fiancée Gemma Atkinson and their two children recently, with them having not long returned home
Professional dancer Gorka Márquez has revealed that he injured himself whilst on holiday with Gemma Atkinson and their two children recently. He shared the news this week ahead of an appointment to address the impact of it.
Gorka, 34, and his fiancée Gemma, 40, enjoyed some time away in Tenerife with their kids Mia, five, and Thiago, one, recently. The family returned to the UK just last week after soaking up the sun on the largest of the Canary Islands.

Since coming back home, Gorka and Gemma - who met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 - have continued to prepare for the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run. The couple are set to take part in the half marathon in Manchester on May 18.

Whilst sharing an update over his progress on his Instagram Story this morning, Gorka revealed to his followers that he chipped one of his teeth during their holiday last month. He shared that he's yet to get it "fixed" by a dentist though.
In the video posted earlier today, Gorka explained that he had just finished a run ahead of the half marathon in two weeks. He went on to confirm, after teasing that some fans would notice it, that he had recently damaged a tooth.
Gorka didn't provide any details on how he sustained the injury, but told fans: "For the ones who might notice - yes, I chipped my tooth on holiday. I have to get it fixed." Then further showing off the tooth, he said: "So yeah ... cute!"
The news comes after Gorka shared updates throughout his trip with his partner and their kids. At one point, he told his followers on the platform in a post shortly before they returned home: "Always a fun holiday in Tenerife."

Just days ago, Gorka - who is best known for having been a dancer on Strictly since 2016 - reflected on the holiday with his family. He suggested that one of his "favourite" moments had been watching sunset with Gemma, Mia and Thiago.
Alongside photos of them at a beach, he wrote: "One of my favourite of the holidays was just to watch the sun go down all together. Find it so relaxing and also so incredible just to think at the same time that we're watching the sunset somewhere in the world [others] are watching the sunrise."

Gemma, who had also been sharing updates from their holiday, confirmed last weekend that the family were heading home after their time away. She teased in a post on her account that it had been "what [they] all needed".
Alongside photos from time spent in a pool, she wrote in the post shared on April 27: "Adiós Tenerife. Vitamin D, great food, great sleep, loads of swimming and lots of laughs. Just what we all needed. Until next time."

BBC Strictly Come Dancing star breaks silence after being 'suspended' from EastEnders

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Jamie Borthwick, known for his role as Jay Brown in EastEnders, has issued a sincere apology after he was caught using an offensive term against disabled people. The incident took place about six months ago during his time on Strictly Come Dancing and has led to speculation that the actor might have been suspended from the BBC soap. The Manchester Evening News reported that the soap star used the derogatory term in a video referring to the people of Blackpool, where the beloved Strictly episode is traditionally filmed at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Disability charity Scope and a Blackpool councillor have expressed their disappointment over the matter. In a statement to The Sun on Sunday, Jamie expressed his regret: "I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly. (Image: BBC/Jack Barnes) "I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. "Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did. It was wrong," reports the Express. (Image: ITV) He also made a point to offer a specific apology to the residents of Blackpool, emphasising his contrition for his comments. The Sun claims that the actor has been sidelined from EastEnders, resulting in the BBC issuing the following statement: "This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. We have robust processes in place for this." Jamie's Strictly appearance last year was marked by his partnership with Michelle Tsiakkas. The controversy allegedly began in November when the Strictly cast filmed at Blackpool Tower Ballroom. (Image: PA) Meanwhile, singer Wynne Evans, famous for Go Compare adverts and 53 years old, also faced criticism for stroking partner Katya Jones on live television, despite suggestions that it was meant as a joke. This is not the first time the popular show has been surrounded by controversy. In previous seasons, backstage tension led to the sudden exits of Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice. Reach PLC has reached out to the BBC for comment. Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to BBC One later this year, with past episodes available to stream via ITVX.

DIY SOS presenter Nick was decked out in his pink jacket while lingerie boss Katie sported her elegant blue floral gown as they swayed and gazed lovingly into each other's eyes. Ever the joker, Nick couldn't resist having a laugh and busted out some twerking at the end, while Katie jokingly shook her head. Katie then did a costume change and slipped into a white mini dress with match trainers and a glittery hat. Nick clearly liked what he saw, removing his jacket and spinning it around over his head. And despite having to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing due to injury last year, Nick proved he's still got the moves as he spun his wife around the floor. Later the pair let their hair down further by downing shots with their pals. There was also lots of entertainment for guests, with a carnival dancer taking to the stage at one point. Later, a band performed songs for the merry crowd. Nick and Katie spared no expense on the big day, which is rumoured to have cost six figures. He then got hitched to Eddie's mum Jessica Moor in 2012, but they called it quits in 2016. She said: "I think at the start, it was probably more irritating, especially for my family. But now those comments kind of just pass over me because we both know it's not true. "Nick works hard, he has what he has. I work hard, I have what I have and then we buy each other stuff. "So we're both really comfortable with where we are with that and you will always get it because there's an age gap.' She continued: "I know plenty of people who are together and the same age where someone's using the other one for money and they're not happy. "So as long as I know it's not true and he knows it's not true, I think that's, that's pretty much all that matters."

Freddy Brazier's real reason for 'moving in' with gran with dad Jeff 'livid'

As it has been reported that Freddy Brazier is living with his grandmother Jackiey Budden, a source has revealed the real reason for the alleged family feud as dad Jeff is 'livid'. Freddy Brazier is said to have felt as though he's 'fallen into the background' of his actor brother Bobby's success, says a source. The aspiring model is thought to have been living with his grandmother, Jackeiy, over the last week before he revealed he was checking himself into a rehab centre on Friday. ‌ Freddy was pictured with her maternal grandmother amid reports of a rift between the 20-year-old and his dad Jeff, with Freddy allegedly smoking a joint during the outing. And revealing that the relationship has left Jeff 'livid', a source told Mirror, "Jeff is livid over the whole thing. He feels that he has brought the kids up single-handedly and Jackiey is a bad influence. Drugs are not something Jeff wants the boys around and he's not happy with the whole situation.' ‌ Jeff has had a long-standing feud with Jade's mum. Previously he said that during his sons' childhoods, Jackiey would spoil them with 'unsuitable' gifts, claiming she once bought Freddy a hamster without checking with him, and supplied the boys with mobile phones during a visit. 'I just wish we could work together a little better,' he said in 2012. However, the relationship later broke down completely and Jackiey didn't see her grandsons for a period of time, before regular visits began again. 'As she settled in herself, the boys kept a lot of contact with her and at the moment she's very helpful and very prominent in their lives,' said Jeff in 2014. Revealing the alleged reason for Freddy's increased time with Jackiey, the source says that his brother Bobby's soaring success on TV hasn't been easy. 'It's difficult for Bobby and for Freddy as brothers, especially considering Bobby's success in recent years with Strictly and EastEnders – Freddy feels like he's fallen into the background. 'It's a case of him rebelling against it all. But they are really close as siblings and Bobby wants more than anything for his brother to come home and for the family to be back together again. He hates seeing his dad so anxious.' ‌ While Bobby has carved out a successful TV career, Freddy's profile is also on the rise. He describes himself as a 'model and TV personality' and appeared on Celebrity Race Across The World alongside Jeff. Last Friday, days after he was spotted smoking what appeared to be a joint with Jackiey, Freddy revealed he was checking into rehab. He wrote in his Instagram Stories that he was going to be 'cutting down' as he headed to a rehab centre in Marbella. 'I've been smoking from the age of 12 and it's time to stop,' he wrote. 'It was a bad coping mechanism that turned into an addiction – something I relied on and something that made me feel sane and somewhat OK.' Continuing that he had found a rehab centre where he could heal, Freddy added, 'I want to be clean so I can live life happily and have healthy relationships with people and be there for all of my family rather than feeling like I'm in the middle and have to choose a side. I haven't been able to feel love properly as I have never loved myself and it starts now. I want to play football and take up boxing. I want to be happy and be in a healthy relationship and have a healthy relationship with my Nana and my father.'
