Ramadan 2025 announcement issued by leading Birmingham mosque behind Eid events
A leading Birmingham mosque has made an announcement for Ramadan 2025.
Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC), which organises the city's huge public events for Eid, has made its annual Ramadan announcement.
The mosque, based in Small Heath, said in a statement: "The moon has been sighted, which means that Ramadan will commence on Saturday, March 1st, 2025.
"Taraweeh will begin tonight (Friday 28th February). Isha salah jamat time is 8pm and taraweeh will commence straight after, please arrive early to secure your place. Please park considerately and do not block entrances.
"We urge our congregation to uphold the best character and remain within religious practices during Ramadan."

GLMCC has traditionally followed declarations from Saudi Arabia rather than awaiting news of moonsightings within the UK.
More announcements will follow as people try to spot the moon in British skies.
It means dates could vary within Birmingham and across the UK as worshippers face Ramadan on two different dates - either March 1 or 2.
Some in the UK base their calendars on local sightings of the crescent or, if that's not possible because of cloud cover, confer with officials in Morocco where the time zone (Western European Time) is currently in alignment with the UK's Greenwich Mean Time.
Others in the UK follow Saudi Arabia, which declares its dates earlier in the day due to the time difference. It's currently three hours ahead of the UK.
Experts say it is now likely the moon will not be sighted in Morocco, which bases decisions only on naked-eye sightings. That would mean Ramadan will start on Sunday, March 2.
Moonsighting experts had already predicted we may get a "split Ramadan" again this year.

In its long range forecast from June 12 to July 6, the Met Office said: "The start of this period is likely to be quite unsettled but also widely warm or very warm, perhaps locally hot in parts of the south and east. "Some showers and thunderstorms are likely to affect most parts but there will also be some sunshine. "Over the weekend and into the start of the following week, most parts will become drier. "However, there may be another brief spell of rain with a risk of some thunderstorms, before high pressure more firmly builds in from the west. "The rest of the following week looks like being mainly dry with variable cloud and some sunshine and often warm or very warm. "The far north may be largely cloudy with a threat of some more rain at times though."

The weekend is kicking off much like the work week has ended across much of the nation's heartland: with weather maps and radars dotted with clusters of strong thunderstorms and severe weather alerts. Saturday's severe weather threat covers around 65 million people across the southern Plains, Deep South and into the Southeast. Primary dangers include wind gusts of 60+ mph and very large to giant hail, but a few tornadoes are possible. Although temperatures appears to be sub-par for June this weekend amid the forecast of thunderstorms, things could heat up later this month. Weather forecasters have predicted the UK could experience a period of dry weather in a few days. The Met Office said there could be 'above average temperatures' and 'some hot spells' in the period between Saturday, June 21, and Saturday, July 5. Weather maps from WX Charts have turned red across England that day. Thirty-four different counties are set to experience temperatures of 30C or more that day, according to The mercury could rise to 31C in the eastern part of Birmingham, while other parts of the West Midlands could experience 30C. Elsewhere in the region, parts of Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire could see the mercury rise to 30C. While temperatures of 32C have been forecasted for Greater London, Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire, West Sussex, Suffolk and Merseyside. But temperatures of 30C are set to drop off after parts of West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire heading north, with Cumbria set for 25C heat and Northumberland 21C.
