Wandsworth neighbour jailed for doorbell camera abuse and threats
A woman who shouted threats to get her neighbours "killed" through their doorbell camera has been jailed for three years and four months.Kingston upon Thames Crown Court heard that Drina Gray had "engaged in a campaign of harassment" against the young couple living in the flat above hers.The 52-year-old from Wandsworth, south-west London, left her victims feeling trapped and frightened to be at home, the court was told.Sentencing Gray on Wednesday, Judge Peter Lodder KC said she made her neighbours' lives "hell", having "persistently harassed them morning, noon and night".
Incidents included damaging their front door camera repeatedly, shouting and swearing and making threats such as "watch your back and that's a warning" and "I can get you [expletive] killed", the court heard.Victim Ben, who owns the upstairs flat, said he had found the threats "terrifying" and experienced suicidal thoughts, and he is now on medication to manage anxiety and depression.
In a statement read to the court, he said he was forced to stay with friends and family, struggled to sleep, had nightmares and ultimately lost his "peace of mind, health and job".Addressing the defendant, Judge Lodder KC said: "You made lives of your neighbours hell."You persistently harassed them morning, noon and night. Despite orders being obtained to seek to prevent you from behaving in the way you did, you continued in your campaign."It may well be you were under influence of alcohol but that is not an excuse, that is an aggravation, and it is no consolation at all to the people you were threatening with extreme violence."
Speaking outside court after the sentencing, Ben and his partner Emma smiled and hugged, telling the BBC they feel "incredible" and "as though the fight was worth it"."It has been such a long and drawn-out battle," Ben said, adding their "resilience and resistance" had paid off."Finally, we can relax for the first time in two years."Ben told the BBC earlier this year that he felt ignored by the authorities. He added that they were "totally let down by almost every system that we felt was there to protect us".The court case took place on the day that the Housing Ombudsman for England told the BBC that some social landlords were failing victims of anti-social neighbours.
The judge said that, as well as alcohol use, other aggravating factors were the fact the victims were in their own home, and Gray's 18 previous convictions relating to 40 offences.In mitigation, defence lawyer Tammy Sher said Gray had experienced problems with alcohol for a long time, and in 2023 had been involved in two road accidents which had affected her physical and mental health and caused her alcohol use to spiral.In a letter read out to the court, Gray said she regretted her actions and she had been going through a period of poor mental and physical health.Gray was sentenced for four charges, including of harassment, criminal damage, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intent of causing harassment, alarm or distress, spanning six months in 2024.She also failed to comply with a Community Protection Notice, which was dealt with by another court.
'Changes are being made'
The court was told Wandsworth Council, which owns the flat Gray lived in, has started eviction proceedings, and that Gray has no intention of going back to the property.The judge also granted a restraining order, in place for 10 years, banning her from going within a mile of the victims' address and from contacting them directly or indirectly.Wandsworth Council said it was "continuing to seek possession" of Gray's property.Aydin Dikerdem, cabinet member for housing, said: "We accept that we could have acted more swiftly, and following this case changes are being made to our anti-social behaviour case management system to ensure the appropriate actions are taken more promptly and that complainants are kept updated."The Labour councillor added: "Council officers have met with the individuals affected to discuss what further support could be provided."If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this story you can visit BBC Action Line.

Woman is fighting for her life after 'BMW driver flipped car and then attacked her' as she walked down the street
A woman has been left fighting for her life after she was allegedly attacked by a man who had just crashed a car and rolled it onto its roof. A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the horror assault which happened at around 5.30pm on Tuesday in Leicester. The victim, a woman in her 50s, was walking down the street when she was attacked, police have said. She was rushed to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries. It came after police received a call that a white BMW 1 series had overturned on Aylestone Road near to the junction with Welford Road and the Voco hotel. Minutes later the driver was seen running away from the vehicle and down the street towards the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The man then allegedly assaulted the woman and was detained by officers at the scene, police have said. He remains in police custody. As well as attempted murder, the 23-year-old has been accused of possession with intent to supply class B drugs, assault of an emergency worker, dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs and failing to provide a specimen. He is currently in police custody. Detective Inspector Emma Matts from Leicestershire Police said: 'This woman was sadly subjected to a serious assault and remains in hospital in a critical condition. 'We have a dedicated team of detectives who are pursuing all lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances around what happened. 'We have spoken to a number of witnesses, but we know from CCTV that the area was extremely busy with many people passing through the city. Jailed Love Island star Cashel Barnett accused of sexually assaulting his ex in front of their child
Love Island star Cashel Barnett has been hit with a new sexual assault charge after he was thrown in jail last month for allegedly beating his ex. Barnett, 34, who appeared on season one of the dating show in 2019, was originally booked into Salt Lake City jail in Utah after he 'choked' the mother of his one-year-old child in front of the youngster on April 10. He was charged with felony aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child and two counts of misdemeanor assault. Utah prosecutors have now levelled three new charges against Barnett involving the same alleged victim - first-degree aggravated sexual assault, third-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree domestic violence in the presence of a child between November and December 2024. Barnett has denied all the charges. Per court documents obtained by Barnett allegedly grabbed his ex-girlfriend from behind, pushed her head into the couch rendering her unconscious, before 'violently' raping her in front of their child in December 2024. It was claimed this came after he 'withheld any physical contact for a month' after the alleged victim 'asked him to get a job to help support their child.' Per the alleged victim's statement, the alleged assault began when Barnett 'put his hands down the victim's pants' and when she kissed him back, he allegedly shoved her off the couch and told her 'she didn't 'get that' because she was 'in trouble".' The victim claims she told Barnett he was 'being manipulative' and when she tried to walk to her bedroom, Barnett allegedly 'grabbed both of her hands from behind her, demonstrated the handcuff position, then picked her up and did a 'swoop onto the couch.'' Per the statement Barnett then pulled his pants down and screamed at her 'Is this what you f*****g want?' and 'Are you f*****g happy now?' The alleged victim said due to being forced into the couch she couldn't breathe and lost consciousness for approximately one minute. She claimed she was woken when Barnett 'sat her up, slapped her across the face really hard and just kept going.' The alleged victim claims Barnett 'violently' raped her and strangled her again, leaving her 'lightheaded.' The statement claims the assault only stopped when she 'grabbed their one-year-old child, who was crying.' Barnett is being held without bail and will be arraigned this week. has contacted Barnett's representatives for comment and has yet to hear back. His attorney told TMZ in a statement:'Mr. Barnett maintains his innocence and denies any wrongdoing. 'My client and his family are enduring an incredibly difficult time, and we hope that his privacy will be respected as we work diligently to defend his name and reputation.' Last month Barnett was accused of arguing with the mother of his child, before she tried to hug him to 'calm him down' during the alleged April 10 incident, per KUTV. She claims he then 'slapped her arms away' and when she walked away, he allegedly picked her up by the neck and threw her onto the bed She claims he continued to apply pressure on her neck so she was unable to 'breathe or see clearly.' She claims Barnett then slapped her in the face and told her 'you're fine'. Following the alleged incident, the victim said she experienced coughing, trouble swallowing, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, memory loss, and a headache. Prosecutors wrote in court documents: 'The report of strangulation is particularly concerning. Injuries related to strangulation can be serious, yet not necessarily apparent. 'Victims who have been non-fatally strangled are 7.5 times more likely to become a subsequent victim of homicide at the hands of the same abusive partner.' 'The State believes that the victim will likely suffer further domestic abuse at the hands of the defendant should he remain out of custody. Therefore, the State requests that the defendant be booked and held without bail' prosecutors argued. As well as Love Island, he appeared on The Challenge in 2022 and now works as a model and musician.
