Paramount Global, Skydance Media merger deadline to get 90-day extension
April 7 (Reuters) - Skydance Media and Paramount Global's (PARA.O), opens new tab $8 billion merger would be automatically extended by 90 days after its deadline of April 7 under the terms of the companies' agreement.
Paramount's controlling shareholder, Shari Redstone, struck a two-step deal in July to sell her stake in the Hollywood studio as part of the deal with David Ellison's Skydance, a streaming-era upstart.

The companies are awaiting regulatory approval for the deal to close. If the merger is not finalized by April 7 and certain conditions are met, the agreement allows for up to two automatic 90-day extensions.
The closing of the deal is subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
A Delaware judge was willing to consider allegations in a class action lawsuit that Paramount's sale to Skydance Media should be blocked from closing because it short-changes public shareholders, according to a court filing from March.
In January, an investor group known as Project Rise Partners submitted a proposal valued at $13.5 billion to acquire Paramount, but that was rejected by a special committee of Paramount's board.
In response, pension funds for New York City employees that own Paramount stock filed a class action lawsuit in Delaware's Court of Chancery alleging that Paramount's special committee breached its fiduciary duties to the company's public shareholders by not considering the bid from Project Rise Partners.
As part of the deal, Skydance had agreed to a 45-day "go shop" period that allowed Paramount to solicit and evaluate other offers. That period had ended on August 21.

The biggest night in theater is back Sunday as fans gear up for the 78th annual Tony Awards, which gave nods to nearly three dozen Broadway shows. Here's what to know. How to watch The awards show takes place Sunday at New York City's Radio City Music Hall, running from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET. The show will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+. Some awards will also be announced during a preshow broadcast, hosted by Darren Criss (nominated this year for the first time for 'Maybe Happy Ending') and Renée Elise Goldsberry (who won a Tony in 2016 for her role in 'Hamilton'), that will air on Pluto TV beginning at 6:40 p.m. ET. Who is hosting and presenting? Cynthia Erivo, who starred alongside Ariana Grande in the record-breaking film adaptation of the Broadway musical 'Wicked,' will be hosting this year's main show. Erivo got her own Tony Award in 2016 for her performance as Celie in 'The Color Purple.' She's also a Grammy and an Emmy winner. Marnie previously described her first labour, which lasted 28 hours, as traumatic and insisted on having a c-section the second time round. Marnie was diagnosed with a chronic UTI in 2016 and after giving birth to baby Rox in 2019, her symptoms began to get a lot worse. Marnie got engaged to X Factor singer Casey back in 2020, and they wed in May 2023. The pair met on the show Single AF in 2017.
