Delhi Transport Minister vows infra, green push in Vikaspuri
Delhi Health and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Sunday took part in a record plantation drive involving 501 trees and vowed infrastructure development in his Vikaspuri constituency for offering a safer, faster and more dignified life to citizens.
Inaugurating the long-overdue construction work of the Baprola Village to Harphool Vihar road, the Minister said: 'Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, we are accelerating long-stalled projects and investing in the future of our youth and city.'
'This move exemplifies the Delhi government's proactive governance model — putting people's needs and children's safety at the heart of its development agenda,' he said.
The new road project addresses a public demand that had remained unresolved for the past many years in the Vikaspuri Assembly constituency, he said.
The road, which had deteriorated over time and posed major commuting challenges for residents, holds immense importance for daily travel — especially for school-going children, he said.
The road serves as a vital link to two major schools in the area and used by students of the government school in Baprola Village, he said, adding that the new road will benefit approximately 3,000 to 3,500 schoolchildren.
Residents across Baprola Village, G-2 Jai Vihar, Prashant Enclave, Bajrang Chowk, and Harphool Vihar will benefit directly from the improved road infrastructure, he said.
The Minister said the road project is a reflection of the government's continued dedication to inclusive urban growth and a testimony to its action-oriented governance in the Vikaspuri region.
Earlier in the day, the Vikaspuri Assembly also witnessed an environmental milestone with the plantation of 501 trees under the ongoing "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign in a single day.
The Minister said these trees are more than just greenery — they symbolise the blessings of every mother and a shared promise to protect our environment.
He said the government is determined to expand this movement across Delhi and urged all citizens to participate by planting at least one tree in their mother's name, making the city greener one sapling at a time.

Kanwar panels to get 1,200 units of power, direct funds
New Delhi: Govt will now directly transfer funds to kanwar committees through direct benefit transfer. The Delhi cabinet passed a proposal in this connection on Tuesday. Chief minister Rekha Gupta said that kanwar committees would now receive direct grant-in-aid ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh as the tender system was abolished, paving the way for transparency and ending corruption. Every registered kanwar committee will receive up to 1,200 units of free electricity for their camps, she added. Govt has also decided to set up mandatory standards for camp infrastructure, including waterproof tents, CCTV, fire safety and sanitation. Additionally, 'Mukhyamantri Dharmik Utsav Smiti' will be formed to oversee religious affairs and related celebrations. Only registered committees with valid PAN, bank details and registration certificates will be eligible for the grant. The chief minister said that camps would be classified based on the tenting area and the number of days. The committees will be eligible for a minimum grant of Rs 50,000 and a maximum of Rs 10 lakh. Gupta explained that 50% of the grant will be given in advance, and the remaining amount will be released only after the submission of the utilisation certificate, verification with geo-tagged photos by SDM or tehsildar, and complete audit documents. Gupta further said that grant disbursement would follow a first-come, first-serve principle to prioritise timely applicants. Additionally, recommendations from the local MLA, MP or ministers will be mandatory for the approval of any kanwar camp site to ensure proper planning and need-based setup. Any fraudulent activity by a committee may lead to proceedings under applicable legal provisions, she warned. The chief minister also said that a group of ministers chaired by minister Kapil Mishra, along with four MLAs, would finalise the list. All districts will have a single-window clearance system under the supervision of district magistrates, allowing NOC and permits to be issued within 72 hours, making the process swift and convenient for organisers, she added. To ensure seamless coordination, an inter-departmental meeting will be held by the secretary, revenue cum divisional commissioner, involving key departments, including Delhi Police, DJB, Delhi Fire Services, MCD, health, DDA, transport and power. Addressing traffic and safety concerns, the chief minister said a comprehensive plan was prepared in consultation with all the agencies concerned and police authorities. "It will be ensured that pedestrian kanwariyas face no inconvenience during their movement. Civil Defence and Home Guard volunteers will be deployed at camps to strengthen on-ground arrangements." Gupta alleged that earlier, many committees waited until the last moment for basic services like tents and water supply. "In contrast, the current govt consulted directly with kanwar committees to understand their problems."

Groups organising Kanwar Yatra will get funds directly, says CM
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced that the Delhi government will directly transfer funds to registered religious committees organising camps for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, an annual pilgrimage undertaken by Lord Shiva devotees. Addressing a press conference, Ms. Gupta said the earlier model of awarding tenders to private contractors was riddled with inefficiency and corruption. 'For the entire Delhi, tenders were bagged by two or three individuals who then farm out the work. If the government spent ₹500, services worth less than ₹100 actually reached the devotees,' she said, calling the previous system a 'den of corruption'. The press meet concluded with her chanting 'Har Har Mahadev'. Under the new system, registered religious committees will receive free electricity up to 1,200 units and a financial grant of up to ₹10 lakh based on the size and duration of the camp, said Ms. Gupta, adding that the move will enhance transparency and efficiency. To qualify for funding, the Kanwar camps must meet certain infrastructure standards, including waterproof tents and proper bedding, barricading, CCTV surveillance, fans, coolers, fire extinguishers, clean sanitation facilities and proper stage set-ups. Obtaining grants The CM said that to obtain grants and permissions, the government will implement a single-window clearance system overseen by District Magistrates. Committees must apply for a No Objection Certificate, which will be issued within three days. They also need to provide a recommendation from a local MLA, MP, or a Minister for approval. A group of Ministers will finalise committees, she added.
