Delhi Transport Minister vows infra, green push in Vikaspuri
Delhi Health and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Sunday took part in a record plantation drive involving 501 trees and vowed infrastructure development in his Vikaspuri constituency for offering a safer, faster and more dignified life to citizens.
Inaugurating the long-overdue construction work of the Baprola Village to Harphool Vihar road, the Minister said: 'Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, we are accelerating long-stalled projects and investing in the future of our youth and city.'
'This move exemplifies the Delhi government's proactive governance model — putting people's needs and children's safety at the heart of its development agenda,' he said.
The new road project addresses a public demand that had remained unresolved for the past many years in the Vikaspuri Assembly constituency, he said.
The road, which had deteriorated over time and posed major commuting challenges for residents, holds immense importance for daily travel — especially for school-going children, he said.
The road serves as a vital link to two major schools in the area and used by students of the government school in Baprola Village, he said, adding that the new road will benefit approximately 3,000 to 3,500 schoolchildren.
Residents across Baprola Village, G-2 Jai Vihar, Prashant Enclave, Bajrang Chowk, and Harphool Vihar will benefit directly from the improved road infrastructure, he said.
The Minister said the road project is a reflection of the government's continued dedication to inclusive urban growth and a testimony to its action-oriented governance in the Vikaspuri region.
Earlier in the day, the Vikaspuri Assembly also witnessed an environmental milestone with the plantation of 501 trees under the ongoing "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign in a single day.
The Minister said these trees are more than just greenery — they symbolise the blessings of every mother and a shared promise to protect our environment.
He said the government is determined to expand this movement across Delhi and urged all citizens to participate by planting at least one tree in their mother's name, making the city greener one sapling at a time.

Renovate all MAMC hostels, ensure fear-free atmosphere on campus, CM tells officials
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday issued several directions to the departments concerned after meeting students from Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) at the Secretariat. She asked the Public Works Department to immediately start renovating all the existing hostels and expedite the construction of new ones, and instructed officials to ensure night-time safety of students by installing high-wattage LED street lights, increasing the deployment of security personnel and ensuring 24x7 CCTV surveillance. The interaction was held four days after Ms. Gupta, along with Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, attended a meeting called by the MAMC Dean to discuss concerns about accommodation and security of students and doctors. During the meeting, the students informed the CM about the dilapidated state of hostels, poor lighting, illegal encroachments, and shortage of security personnel. Women students, in particular, raised concerns regarding their safety, said an official. 'Extremely cramped' A statement by the CM Office stated that the seven hostels constructed since the establishment of the college were meant for 1,200 students, whereas over 3,200 students currently reside in 'extremely cramped' conditions, with up to eight beds in a room, shared cupboards, and no provision for basic amenities such as study tables. Ms. Gupta expressed 'grave concern over the severe negligence and lack of accountability on the part of previous governments', the statement added. 'It's appalling to see the poor state of such a prestigious institution like Maulana Azad Medical College and the condition of the students studying there,' it also quoted the CM as saying. Ms. Gupta told the students that her governmentstands with them. 'Students of prestigious institutions like MAMC are our future, and we will extend every possible support to them,' she said. 'Will visit soon' The statement said that Ms. Gupta had directed officials to submit progress reports every 15 days and that the CM had told the students she would visit the campus soon to inspect the situation, 'engage directly' with them.
