Yang Mi named Most Disappointing Actor of 2024
12 Feb - Yang Mi's star power faced significant challenges in 2024, with the acclaimed actress being named Most Disappointing Actor of the Year by the Douban TV Group Year-end Awards.
The actress' highly anticipated drama "Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Red-Moon Pact" failed to meet expectations, with viewers criticising the plot's inconsistencies despite her pairing with popular actor Gong Jun. The series was ultimately designated as Flop Drama of the Year.
Zhang Ruoyun's "Joy of Life 2" dominated the awards, securing both Best Drama and Most Watched Drama of the Year. The sequel to the 2019 drama, which also starred Li Qin, brought additional acclaim to Zhang, who claimed Role of the Year and Actor of the Year for his portrayal of Fan Xian.
In a notable career resurgence, Wu Jinyan's performance in "The Double" emerged as the Dark Horse of the Year. Her character, Xue Fangfei, captured audiences' attention, earning a place among the top 10 Most Popular Female Characters and marking a successful comeback following previous underwhelming projects.
The setbacks for Yang Mi extended beyond television, as her other ventures in 2024 struggled to find success. Her drama "In the Name of the Brother" failed to make an impact, while her film "Nothing Can't Be Solved by a Hot Pot" performed poorly at the box office, solidifying a challenging year for the Chinese actress.

"She's Got No Name" unveils first official poster
6 Jun - Two years after the first announcement, Peter Chan's "She's Got No Name" finally unveiled the first official poster for the first part of the movie. The poster reveals the looks of all the cast for the first time, sparking interests of fans who mostly commented that all of the actors seemed unrecognisable and are truly immersed in their characters. This includes lead actress Zhang Ziyi, whose character has scars covering her face; Yang Mi looking dishevelled in her character as a female prisoner, Jackson Yee in shades and equipped with a cane as a blind fortune teller, as well as Zanilia Zhao, looking glamorous as a writer. Fans also couldn't help but notice that both Zanilia and Yang Mi are placed on each side of the poster. The decision seemed to be a way to avoid the fandom of both actresses from arguing on who is the bigger star. Since the film debuted in the non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival last year, there has been no further news until it was recently announced as the opening film of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival. What is noteworthy is that the film has recently been announced to be divided into two parts, the first of which has the Chinese title of "Jiangyuan Lane: Mystery". General Hospital Performer of the Month for May 2025: Giovanni Mazza
It's been an explosive month on General Hospital where many actors blew us away, but only one earned the top spot as Soap Hub's Performer of the Month in May. One of GH's most underrated, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) has been serving up emotional moments for over a decade in Port Charles. This month, it was not just after finding out he has a son he never knew was his, but first when Rocco (Finn Carr) almost died from alcohol poisoning. Zamprogna captured the worry of a father, the smarts of a cop, and the blame game toward Gio long before the shocking truth came out. READ THIS: Here's what's coming up on GH. Also involved in the Baby Boy BLQ mess was Jane Elliot's Tracy. The GH vet lent so.e tenderness to her usually stern character after Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) admitted to her grandmother that she had a teen pregnancy and gave the baby up. But the most heartwarming moments came later when Gio was the one to tell her that he was her long lost great-grandson, and she took the reigns as a Quartermaine matriarch and invited him into the dysfunctional family with open arms. READ THIS: GH's April Performer of the Month. Say what you will about Willow, but her portrayer Katelyn MacMullen nailed the smitten girlfriend and devastated mom this month. First, the actress continuously pulled off Willow being almost hypnotized by Drew (Cameron Mathison), leading to her ultimate downfall. When Michael (Rory Gibson) snatched his children back, Willow instantly went from lovestruck to mama bear as she begged to see her kids, and when she was denied, she broke down outside Carly's (Laura Wright) door. Ever since the big reveal at the Nurses Ball, there was no doubt in our minds that this month's top honor would go to Giovanni Mazza (Gio). The young violinist-turned-daytime breakout star made us all feel every ounce of pain, shock, and betrayal that Gio felt after discovering that Brook Lynn and Dante are his true parents. Mazza's blowup at the ball captured Gio in a moment of rage that ended in him smashing his treasured violin to pieces and breaking out hearts along with it.

Evonne Sie denies Yang Mi of being a negligent mother
5 Jun - While netizens have been introduced to the idea that Yang Mi was an absent mother for many years now, good friend Evonne Sie has recently dismissed the notion in an interview. The Taiwanese actress recently shared about her friendship with the Chinese star during an appearance on a variety show, saying that Yang Mi would often share photos of her only daughter Noemie with her in private. Evonne stated that she never understood the act of showing off one's baby to others, though she truly adored Noemie's cuteness. But it was only after she became a mother herself that she gradually turned into a "baby-showing maniac". She also stated that the two of them, who became friends after working together on "Tiny Times" in 2013, had a lot of discussions about parenting whenever they meet and that Yang Mi would often visit Noemie in Hong Kong discreetly so not to attract attention. It is noted that the idea of Yang Mi ignoring her daughter was due to the fact that she rarely posted photos of her child. Many also speculated that she was too busy with work to spend time with her daughter, who lives with her ex-husband Hawick Lau in Hong Kong. This was further fuelled by her former father-in-law Lau Dan, who declined to comment on anything related to the actress' visit. Yang Mi once said in an interview that she would visit her daughter whenever she was free, but she did not want to disclose the time, nor did she want to expose any of her daughter's private life. This is so that Noemie can have an ordinary life. (Photo Source: Yang Mi Weibo, SOHU)
