Flames prospects score invites to World Junior Summer Showcase
The Calgary Flames are going to be well-represented at this summer's World Junior Summer Showcase.

On Sunday morning, Hockey Canada unveiled the 44 players who will be representing the country at the annual summer tournament in Minnesota, and three of the future stars the Flames have drafted in the last two years have scored invites.

The trio of Zayne Parekh, Henry Mews and Cole Reschny will all be participating in the practices, scrimmages and a trio of exhibition games which often serve as proving grounds for players looking to represent their country at the IIHF World Junior Championships in December and January.

Parekh was drafted ninth overall in 2024 and went on to lead the CHL in defensive scoring last season with 107 points. He's widely expected to be playing with the Flames in the NHL next season.

Dupont, Ruck twins named to Canadian team for Hlinka Gretzky Cup
CALGARY – Defenceman Landon DuPont headlines Canada's roster for the upcoming Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Czechia and Slovakia. The 16-year-old Dupont from Calgary was the first defenceman granted exceptional status by the Western Hockey League, which allowed him to enter the league at age 15. He was among 25 players named to the team by Hockey Canada for the annual summer tournament that showcases many of the world's top male players aged 18 and under. Canada seeks a fourth straight gold medal in the eight-country tournament that runs Aug. 11-16 in Brno, Czechia and Trencin, Slovakia. 'Our selection camp was highly competitive and provided an opportunity for our players to showcase themselves against the top talent in the country, and we believe we have assembled a roster that will compete for gold and wear the Maple Leaf with pride in Czechia and Slovakia,' Millar said Friday in a statement. The roster includes 16 players who helped Canada win gold at the 2024 world championship, as well as nine who claimed a silver medal at the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Defenders Rob Armstrong, Zach Lavin and Tyrone Henry, forwards Adam Dixon, Liam Hickey, James Dunn, Tyler McGregor and Anton Jacobs-Webb and goaltender Adam Kingsmill played on both squads. The three goalies, six defenceman and 11 forwards will participate in an orientation camp Aug. 26-28 alongside 30 women and 42 NHL players also summoned to Calgary for the women's and men's Olympic team camps. The Paralympic Games run March 5-15 after the Olympic Games Feb. 6-22 in Milan and Cortina, Italy. Hockey Canada senior vice-president of hockey operations Scott Salmond called the camps the first step toward the goal of winning three gold medals across Olympic and Paralympic hockey. 'While the next several months will bring intense evaluation and difficult roster decisions, we look forward to kicking off the season in Calgary and giving our athletes and staff a chance to come together and start to become one team as we set our sights on February,' he said Friday in a statement.
