A Culinary Institution in San Pedro to Celebrate 100th Anniversary with Public Event and Launch of The Majestic

Business Wire15-05-2025

SAN PEDRO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--One hundred years ago, a young immigrant named Filippo Trani opened a humble restaurant in the bustling port town of San Pedro. That restaurant, The Majestic Café, would become the seed of a legacy that now spans four generations, two landmark restaurants, and a culinary footprint that reaches across Los Angeles and beyond. Today, the Trani family is proud to announce its centennial celebration, commemorating 100 years of culinary excellence, community roots, and cultural contribution to San Pedro and the City of Los Angeles.
The festivities will culminate with a public celebration on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Trani's Dockside Station, the family's newest waterfront restaurant located at Berth 84. The evening will feature live music, special dishes inspired by the family's 100-year journey, and the official announcement of their newest culinary venture: The Majestic.
Slated to open in late 2025, The Majestic marks a triumphant return to the Trani family's original name and spirit. Located on the ground floor of the newly redeveloped Harbor House Apartments —overlooking the main channel of the Port of Los Angeles—The Majestic will deliver an experience they call 'Prohibition Era Nuevo' with an elevated dining experience to the LA Waterfront, honoring the family's heritage while embracing the future of San Pedro's evolving culinary scene.
'For our family, this isn't just about our story—it's San Pedro's story,' said Chef Dustin Trani, fourth-generation chef and owner. 'We've watched this community grow, evolve, and now emerge as one of the most exciting food scenes in Los Angeles. It's an honor to have been part of it for a hundred years, and we're just getting started.'
'The Trani family hopes to deliver San Pedro its first award winning restaurant,' said Trani.
From the elegant Italian classics at J. Trani's Ristorante to the oyster-forward, harbor-inspired fare at Trani's Dockside Station, the Trani family has consistently set the standard for dining in the Harbor Area. Food lovers now travel from across Los Angeles and beyond to experience what San Pedro locals have known for generations: it's worth the trip to Trani's.
As the community prepares for this historic moment, San Pedro is also experiencing a renaissance. Once considered LA's best-kept secret, the neighborhood is quickly gaining recognition as a burgeoning food destination, led in large part by the Trani family's relentless commitment to quality, innovation, and hospitality.
Event Details:
What: Trani Family 100-Year Celebration
When: Saturday, May 17, 2025
Where: Trani's Dockside Station – 311 E. 22nd Street, San Pedro, CA
Who's Invited: The public especially food lovers, longtime patrons, and media.
The centennial is more than a milestone. It's a cultural moment for Los Angeles, honoring the immigrant story that helped shape the region, the family that built a culinary institution, and a community poised to lead in LA's next chapter of food, culture, and destination living.
About the Trani Family Legacy

Ariana Grande Mourns Death of Beloved Grandma Marjorie 'Nonna' Grande

Originally appeared on E! Online Ariana Grande is mourning the loss of one of her most beloved family members. The 'Eternal Sunshine' singer's maternal grandmother Majorie 'Nonna' Grande died in her Florida home, Ariana's mom Joan Grande confirmed on social media. She was 99. 'We are devastated to share that the beloved matriarch of our family has passed away,' the statement, which Ariana reshared to her own Instagram Story June 17, read. 'Marjorie (Nonna) Grande passed peacefully in her home and was surrounded by her family and loved ones for every moment of the last few weeks.' And the statement on behalf of the family—which also includes Ariana's 42-year-old brother Frankie Grande—concluded, 'We thank you for your love, support and for respecting our privacy as we grieve and celebrate her beautiful, extraordinary life.' Throughout her career, Ariana has spoken fondly of her bond with her grandmother—who even her fans call the Italian nickname 'Nonna.' Most recently, she gushed over getting to take her grandmother to see Wicked in her hometown in Boca Raton, Florida. More from E! Online Anne Burrell, Food Network Host, Dead at 55 Human Remains Found Near Taylor Swift's Rhode Island Home Identified Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly's Name of Baby Girl Revealed 'It was just so surreal to sit with her in the movie theater I had grown up going to,' Ariana explained during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in December. 'To hold her hand—oh my God I'm getting emotional.' In addition to her grandmother supporting her acting career, Ariana's nonna also gave her support in her music endeavors—quite literally. Nonna is featured on several of the Grammy winner's songs, including 'Bloodline' off of Thank U Next and Eternal Sunshine's 'ordinary things,' which earned the 99-year-old a seat on the Billboard Hot 100. 'Celebrating the one and only, most beautiful Nonna who has now made history for being the senior most person to ever appear on the @billboard Hot100,' Ariana gushed of the historic feat in an April 2024 Instagram post. 'We love and thank you.' From Ariana's very first gig in local theater playing the lead in Annie in 2002, her nonna was her biggest fan. 'I said you know, Ariana could do that,' she explained to Today in 2014 of seeing Ariana's talent from a young age. 'She became the star. She auditioned and she became Annie."
