Queensland Reds lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Crusaders centre David Havili will co-captain the AUNZ Invitational XV in Saturday's clash against the British and Irish Lions at Adelaide Oval.
In announcing his 23-man squad on Thursday, AUNZ Invitational XV coach Les Kiss said the co-captaincy model would 'really suit this team and what we represent'.
Havili was skipper of the Crusaders side that won this year's Super Rugby Pacific title, while Salakaia-Loto has represented the Wallabies 41 times and is a chance to be named in Australia's squad for the upcoming three-Test series against the Lions.
Other players with Wallabies experience in the AUNZ squad are hooker Brandon Paenga-Amosa, lock Angus Blyth, flanker Pete Samu, flyhalf Tane Edmed, winger Marika Koroibete and reserve back Jock Campbell.

'This week has been building nicely and the boys have put a lot of time into getting to know each other,' Kiss said.
'In forming new bonds many of them have discovered they have more in common than they originally thought.
'We have named an experienced, powerful starting side for Saturday and we know our bench will make an impact when they get their opportunity.'

Phillip Stokes filly Ferivia backs up trial form with super debut win at Murray Bridge

Hype filly Ferivia backed up a brilliant trial win to dispatch her rivals on debut, as the Phillip Stokes and Lachlan Neindorf pairing nailed a dominant early double on Saturday's nine-race card at Murray Bridge. Settling handy in third, Ferivia sprinted powerfully at the 300m, shaking off fellow debutant Bardigrub, en route to a cruisy 3¾-length win in a Benchmark 66 (1000m). • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. Ferivia was crunched in betting, jumping as a $1.80 favourite (Sportsbet), and punters were handed a painless watch. 'The trial was very good, she's a horse that has kept improving this whole prep, every trial she's had, she's come on in leaps and bounds,' assistant trainer Kerrin Stokes said. 'We were confident today, but I thought there were a few horses with some nice ability as well, so maybe she's got something there. 'It never looked in doubt really, she's a horse that we feel does have ability, and she might just prove us right.' • 'Very exciting' In Flight on Group 1 path after Monash success A tilt at Morphettville's Lightning Stakes (1050m) on July 26 is no doubt enticing, the stable won the race with Buddy Bundy in 2014. 'We just wanted to get through today, we'll see how she pulls up, if she comes on with it – we might have to,' he said. Neindorf, who also steered stablemate Noetzie ($3.40) to a commanding five-length win, has a big opinion of Ferivia. 'I did her last piece of work on Thursday, the feel she gave me those few times sitting on her, I wouldn't have expected anything less today,' Neindorf said. 'She's got a lot of depth, it's not the last time we'll see her in the winner's stall. 'She gave me a sensational feeling. She really extended her action, she's going to go quite a way this filly, she's got a fair bit of potential.' Noetzie was also a dominant winner for Neindorf at Murray Bridge on Saturday. Returning apprentice Alana Livesey found herself back on the winner's list, the hoop sustained a broken hand in a fall at Port Lincoln in March, and returned to race riding on Wednesday. Neindorf sits equal second with Taylor Johnstone on 39 wins. Stokes remains in control of the Adelaide trainers' premiership with 44 wins.

Australia make big selection call, bat first in Jamaica

Australia have overlooked a fit Nathan Lyon for a Test for the first time in 12 years, before winning the toss and batting in the third and final Test against West Indies in Jamaica. Australia's captain Pat Cummins confirmed at the toss at Kingston's Sabina Park on Saturday that the tourists would go with four quicks in the day-night Test, with Scott Boland coming in. The Test looms as Australia's last before this summer's home Ashes, and a chance to complete a 3-0 sweep of the Frank Worrell Trophy. Lyon has played every Test he has been fit for since the second Test of the 2013 Ashes, racking up 100 consecutive matches after that. The spinner then suffered a calf tear at Lord's in 2023 and missed the final three Tests of that Ashes, before returning to the side for the start of the next summer. Since Lyon's debut in 2011, he has featured in 139 of the 146 Tests Australia have played. While the day-night Tests are generally thought to suit the quicks under lights, Lyon has a better record with pink balls than he does with the red. But pace has dominated this series, with seamers accounting for 67 of the 78 wickets across the first two Tests. Lyon has had strong returns of nine wickets at 18.33, but he has bowled only 32.3 overs, while Australia can also use Travis Head and Beau Webster's spin if needed. "With the pink ball, it is a little different to a normal Test," Cummins said. West Indies have also made a bold call, dropping former captain Kraigg Brathwaite after he scored just 15 runs across the first four Tests. Keacy Carty has also been axed, with Kevlon Anderson to debut at No.3 and Mikyle Louis to open. Spinner Jomel Warrican has also come in for Anderson Phillip. Australia: Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Cameron Green, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey (wkt), Pat Cummins (capt), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood. West Indies: Mikyle Louis, John Campbell, Kevlon Anderson, Brandon King, Shai Hope (wkt), Roston Chase (capt), Justin Greaves, Jomel Warrican, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales.
