1 from T among 31 Maoists killed in Karreguttalu encounter
Hyderabad: Out of 31 Maoists killed in 21 days in the recent anti-Maoist operations along the Telangana–Chhattisgarh border in Karreguttalu, at least four are linked to the
Telangana State Committee
of the banned CPI (Maoist), though only one was from the state.
Sadhanapalli Chandu (23), also known by his alias Ravi and Niraj, hailed from Eturu village of Kannaigudem Mandal in Mulugu district and carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh. A trained lab technician, Chandu joined the Maoists around 2021 after completing his Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology in Bhadrachalam. He was employed at a private hospital before going underground.
Police sources said Chandu worked closely with Damodar, a senior Maoist leader in charge of Telangana State Committee, and was part of the outfit's medical team. He was killed in the encounter at Karreguttalu during a major push under "
Operation Kagar
".
His body was handed over to his family by Chhattisgarh police after his identity was confirmed.
The other three, though not natives of Telangana, were in key positions within the Telangana State Committee. They include Sodi Narsinga Rao alias Ramesh, linked to the technical wing and listed as a Divisional Committee Member (DCM); Lalsu alias Punem Kodiya, who handled communications as a DCM; and Dugga Venkal alias Soma, a party member affiliated with the same unit.
The anti-Maoist intelligence sleuths of Telangana are also verifying reports of two other women Maoists with Telangana Committee links being killed in the same operations.
The recent encounters, particularly the one at Osuru police station limits in Bijapur district, are considered one of the most significant blows to Maoist infrastructure. It is believed that top Maoist leadership is hiding in parts of Karreguttalu that are still untouched by police.
A cop involved in the operations said, "During the India-Pakistan conflict, there was a brief break, and some paramilitary forces were pulled out. Now, the forces may return to continue the operation to clean the area."

UP CM directs officials to take action against fake, shell companies
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday directed officials to take action against shell companies to stop the attempts to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders. While conducting a high-level review of the State Tax Department, the CM directed officials to ensure transparency in tax collection and adopt a policy of technological efficiency and strict enforcement. "Tax evasion is a national crime that negatively impacts development plans and welfare schemes," he said. Stressing that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a consumer-based tax system, he noted that areas with higher population density are naturally expected to generate more tax revenue. He instructed officials to develop special strategies for zones where tax collection is below average. Adityanath directed that information on suspicious firms registered under Central GST (CGST) be shared with the Centre for cancellation of their registration. For firms under State GST (SGST), he ordered in-depth departmental investigations, and if irregularities are found, their registration should be canceled and FIRs lodged. The CM emphasised the need for on-site inspection of all newly registered firms, stating "fake companies should not be allowed to obstruct the rights of honest taxpayers. CM Adityanath said that such acts are an attempt to misuse the facilities meant for genuine traders, which is unforgivable. Such inspections are essential to ensure that genuine businesses can operate fairly and without interference," he said. During the meeting, officials informed the CM that Rs 18,161.59 crore in GST and VAT had been collected during April and May against the financial year 2025-26 target of Rs 1,75,725 crore.

Over 340 encroachments on Beed Bypass Road removed, drive resumes on Monday
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The civic body has cleared more than 340 illegal structures along the Beed Bypass Road during its current anti-encroachment drive. The operation, which started on June 3, will continue from Monday following a two-day pause due to festivities. "The Beed Bypass Road has emerged as one of the fastest-developing commercial and residential areas of the city. The stretch of nearly 6km, from Mahanubhav Chowk to Deolai Chowk, had different encroachments, even on service roads and other road infrastructure. These illegal structures are being removed during the special drive," he said. According to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) officials, the removed structures included both permanent and temporary constructions. "A public notification was issued appealing to people to remove the encroachments. Some of them removed their illegal structures on their own while the remaining did not pay heed to the appeal and attracted fines," Deshmukh said, adding that the drive was carried out under the supervision of municipal commissioner G Sreekanth. Local residents from Satara Deolai and surrounding areas have requested continued action until all unauthorised structures are removed. "Some big hotels and other commercial establishments have encroached upon the service road, causing huge inconvenience to locals. The authorities should also pay attention to service roads being used for illegal vehicle parking by these establishments," said Rajshekhar Wamshi, a private professional.

3 held for supplying illegal liquor using luxury vehicles
Bhopal: Police arrested three bootleggers involved in the transportation of illegal liquor using luxury vehicles in Berasia and Khajuri areas. Police seized large quantities of illicit alcohol and the high-end vehicles used in the smuggling operations. Cases were registered against the accused under the Excise Act. According to Berasia Police, a tip-off was received about a white SUV transporting illegal liquor from Khejda Mishr village towards Sironj. Acting on the information, police set up a checkpoint on Khejda Road and intercepted an SUV matching the given description. Upon inspection, 17 cartons of illegal liquor were recovered from the vehicle. The seized liquor was estimated to be worth Rs 72,000, and the SUV, valued at Rs 10 lakh, was also seized. Two accused, Pankaj Sahu, 25, and Sachin Ahirwar, 23, both residents of Berasia, were arrested at the scene. They were produced before the court after a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Excise Act. In a separate incident, Khajuri Police received intelligence during a night patrol about a white car transporting illegal liquor from Sehore to Bhopal. Police set up a checkpoint near Tumda Jod in Phanda village. A vehicle matching the description was soon spotted. When signalled to stop, the driver abandoned the car and attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief accused, identified as Piyush Yadav, was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed 30 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), valued at Rs 48,000. A case under the Excise Act was filed.
