Top Maoist Leaders Likely To Surrender In Telangana Today
Two prominent Maoist leaders, Atram Lachanna and Atram Aruna, are expected to surrender before the Ramagundam police on Tuesday. This high-profile defection to the mainstream underscores the growing pressure on Maoist cadres and the effectiveness of Telangana-led government's rehabilitation initiatives. Atram Lachanna, a long-standing and influential member of the Telangana State Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) party, was underground for an astounding three decades. Hailing from Adilabad, Lachanna's surrender is scheduled for 4pm today before the Ramagundam Commissioner of Police, Sri Ambar Kishor Jha, IPS. Accompanying Lachanna in this crucial surrender will be Atram Aruna, who served as a Divisional Committee Secretary in Bastar, a notorious Maoist stronghold. The surrender of these two individuals, particularly Lachanna with his deep-rooted history and senior position within the movement, will be widely viewed as a major blow to the Maoist infrastructure and a positive step towards restoring peace and stability in previously-affected areas. This anticipated surrender aligns with a consistent trend observed in Telangana over recent months. The state has witnessed a steady stream of Maoist cadres laying down arms, with hundreds reportedly embracing mainstream society. This ongoing trend is largely attributed to the robust rehabilitation benefits offered by the Telangana government and police under initiatives like "Operation Cheyutha". These programs aim to entice Maoists to abandon violence and reintegrate into society, offering a pathway to a better future. Meanwhile, the Maoists themselves have recently released a stark statement acknowledging significant losses within their ranks. According to a press note issued by their central committee, 357 Naxalites have been killed in the past year, with 136 of these casualties being women. The statement further detailed that among those killed were four Central Committee (CC) members and 15 State Committee Naxalites, indicating a severe impact on their leadership structure. The central committee's press note highlights Dandakaranya as the region where the Naxal organization suffered its biggest loss, with 281 fatalities reported in this area alone. In an apparent effort to counter the narrative of dwindling strength and to honour their fallen comrades, the Maoists have also released a 24-page booklet in both Gondi language and English. They have announced that they will observe "Martyrdom Week" from July 28 to August 3, a period dedicated to commemorating those who have died in their armed struggle. The combined effect of sustained counter-insurgency efforts, attractive rehabilitation packages, and internal attrition within the Maoist ranks appears to be significantly impacting the Maoist movement, with today's expected surrender marking another notable step in this direction.

Maoists deny reports on Damodar's surrender, distance themselves from threat letter to Minister Seethakka
The CPI (Maoist) Telangana State Committee has distanced itself from a recent letter published in a section of the media, threatening Mulugu MLA and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Dansari Anasuya (Seethakka) in the name of their Telangana State Committee. The letter criticised Seethakka for allegedly neglecting tribal rights, but the party clarified that it had no connection with the letter, a statement issued on Saturday in the name of the party Telangana spokesperson Jagan said. The committee claimed that reports of Damodar's surrender or death have been repeatedly spread by the police. Such reports are a 'deliberate misinformation campaign' carried out by the police as part of a psychological warfare to confuse the revolutionary forces. The Maoists highlighted the contradiction between the Congress government's stance on Maoist issue. While the Congress government has declared the Maoist problem as a social and political issue that cannot be resolved through repression and is demanding that the Central government stop encounters, the police are harassing innocent tribals in Mulugu, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, and Asifabad districts by summoning them to police stations. The Maoist party urged the people to take note of this disparity.

Raipur: Seven Maoists – including central committee member Sudhakar and another top commander, Bhaskar – have been killed in an operation that is on in Indravati National Park area of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, Bastar police said on Saturday. Sudhakar, the ideological chief of Maoists, was gunned down on Thursday and Bhaskar, a Telangana State Committee Member, on Friday. Skirmishes continued all night and on Saturday, the bodies of five more cadres were found. Two of them are women. Police are trying to identify them. Other high-level Maoist operatives, including Telangana State Committee's press in-charge Bandi Prakash, have been spotted in the encounter zone. With this operation, sources say, security forces have foiled a crucial Maoist attempt to coordinate their activities in the region following the encounter killing of CPI(Maoist) general secretary Basavaraju. Security forces have been battling not only insurgents' bullets and treacherous hilly terrain, but also snakes and other threats in the wild as the operation continues deep inside the jungles. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hailed the success and expressed his wish to meet the brave soldiers who are engaged in anti-Maoist mission. With the latest casualties, seven Maoists, including top leaders Sudhakar and Bhaskar, were neutralised in the operation in the last three days, they said. "Security forces have recovered the bodies of seven Maoists during the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the Indravati National Park area of the district," a police officer said. Security forces have intensified their anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, leading to the elimination of seven Maoist cadres over the past three days. Among those killed are Central Committee Member Gautam, also known as Sudhakar, and Telangana State Committee Member Bhaskar. The encounters, which unfolded between June 5 and June 7, resulted in multiple casualties among insurgents. The first confrontation on June 5 led to the death of Sudhakar, a senior Maoist leader who had established Maoist education centres in the Dandakaranya region. His body was recovered following an intense exchange of fire. The following day, security forces neutralised Bhaskar, a commander associated with the Telangana State Committee. His elimination marked another significant blow to the insurgent network. As operations continued into the intervening night of June 6 and 7, three more Maoist's bodies were found, including two women and one man. Later, on June 7 (Saturday), two additional male Maoist cadres were killed in another encounter. The identities of these five insurgents remain unknown, and efforts are underway to confirm their details. Security personnel recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter sites, including two AK-47 rifles and various Maoist documents. The operation has been physically demanding, with several soldiers sustaining injuries due to snake bites, honeybee stings, dehydration, and other operational hazards. Medical teams have ensured their treatment, and all injured personnel are reported to be in stable condition. Search and area domination efforts continue in the dense forest terrain to track any remaining Maoist operatives and secure the region. Officials have stated that a comprehensive report on the recovered weapons and materials will be released once all field inputs have been consolidated. The ongoing crackdown against Maoist insurgents in Bijapur underscores the government's commitment to dismantling their presence and restoring stability to the region. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma acknowledged the success of the operation, confirming that the bodies of seven insurgents, including top leaders Sudhakar and Bhaskar, have been recovered.
