Virgin Atlantic passenger who threatened to 'gang rape' stewardess had lavish lifestyle

Daily Record2 hours ago
Salman Iftikhar wept after he was sentenced for hurling death threats and racist abuse at Virgin Atlantic cabin crew during a flight to Lahore, Pakistan.
A "super flash" recruitment tycoon whose business went bust with £17million worth of debts threatened to gang rape a Virgin Atlantic stewardess and set her alight.

Salman Iftikhar, who also has two wives, told flight attendant Angie Walsh she would be dragged out of her hotel room, gang raped and set alight, reports the Mirror.

Fellow passengers in first class watched as Iftikhar - flying with one of his spouses and three children - repeatedly called Ms Walsh a "f***ing bitch" during the flight from London Heathrow to Lahore, Pakistan.

Iftikhar, 37, later threatened to blow-up the five-star hotel at which the cabin crew were set to stay. However, a court heard this week no action was taken against the recruitment boss after the plane arrived in Pakistan - and he was only arrested at his £900,000 detached home in Iver, Buckinghamshire, after his holiday.
But the yob was finally caged for 15 months at Isleworth Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting making threats to kill and racially aggravated harassment. The judge took into account Iftikhar's six previous convictions, including a common assault, a record she described as "lengthy and appalling".
And it has since emerged the father of three kept a range of expensive cars - from a Range Rover, Bentley and Royles Royce - on his driveway at the time of his arrest. He lived in the six-bedroom home with wife Erum Salman, 38, and together the pair run a London-based staffing company which provides training to businesses working in customer service and manufacturing.

But according to those known to the Buckinghamshire couple, the pair had a "rocky marriage and would argue quite a bit" - with police being called in one instance. Images on social media imply a different story, though, as the dad is seen posing in front of a royal blue Royles Royce kitted out with a white leather interior in one snap. Other images show a Range Rover, Bentley and a Mercedes parked outside the home of the six-bedroom property.
Yet, the recruitment boss, despite being very wealthy, had a failed business venture that has left him millions of pounds in debt. The business mogul previously owned an aviation recruitment business, however it went into administration owing more than £11m to HMRC and £6.885m to HSBC.

The company, called Core Labour Supply Limited (CLSL), had a rapid rise and quickly started having a turnover of almost £90m in 2022. It meant Iftikhar was able to continue enjoying his taste for the high life - paying himself dividends of almost £1m a year between 2018 and 2021. The business, though, was badly affected by Covid and two of his biggest customers, which accounted for 35 per cent, left.
A neighbour of Iftikhar - who asked not to be named - revealed to the Daily Mail: "He's definitely very flash, someone who likes to flaunt his wealth. How he made his money is beyond me, he ran a recruitment consultancy but I didn't really tend to see him leave for work. He was around the house most of the time."

Iftikhar wept in court when he was sentenced on Tuesday. Ms Recorder Annabel Darlow KC said: "Your threats to kill were made in the presence of children, specifically your three young children.
"These were threats made with significant violence. Your children had to be comforted by cabin crew staff while you made those threats.
"Ms Walsh has given up a job which she has loved for 14 months, but thankfully has now returned to work. This was a sustained incident which involved repeated racist abuse to Ms Walsh.
"You have a lengthy and appalling record of misconduct. You have not addressed the underlying cause of this for many years, that is your drug and alcohol problem. Given your lifestyle and your ability to earn money, your harm and risk has not moved. This was an appalling incident which has caused long lasting and devastating consequences."

Just banning Palestine Action isn't good enough, Keir

Yesterday, Sir Keir Starmer staunchly defended the Government's proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation, and right he was too. This time, he cited not only the usual reason – Palestine Action's wrecking of RAF jets at Brize Norton – but also acknowledged their attacks on Jewish-owned businesses. Palestine Action has been terrorising Britain's Jewish community for a long while now, but none of that seemed to matter until everyone saw expensive RAF engines gunged up with red ooze and our politicians realised, as everyone eventually does, that what starts with the Jews never ends with them. Sir Keir's comments come as supporters of Palestine Action prepare to 'overwhelm' police this weekend, as exposed in these pages, with hundreds of them due to flout the law. At Campaign Against Antisemitism, we have been keeping a close eye on developments – including the response of the police. The Met has warned that anyone 'showing support for the group can expect to be arrested'. But presumably they can also expect to be released soon afterwards, just like dozens of other supporters of the terrorist organisation who have been carted off and let go. The sad reality is that, while Palestine Action and their tactics are abhorrent to the vast majority of law-abiding Britons, their campaign of sabotage, wanton criminal damage and intimidation of the Jewish community is more popular amongst some than anyone would like to admit. The bigoted, unpatriotic thugs have not acted in a vacuum: the authorities have appeased them. It's not just the police – it's also our regulators and public bodies, and our politicians. Not only has Sir Keir's Government, like its predecessor, failed to act against the hatred on our streets and campuses, and even within our broadcasters and hospitals; it has exacerbated it, because the appeasement has been double-edged. On one hand, our authorities appease thugs by failing to crack down on the marches, while our officials simultaneously appease the bullies with one policy concession after another. No concession has been more potent or ungratefully received by the mob than the recent pledge to recognise a Palestinian state this September. The Government's promise to recognise a state was made in the form of a threat to Israel – even whilst Hamas turns its Jewish hostages into skeletal figures reminiscent of the Nazi death camps and forces them to dig their own graves. The announcement was then followed by the spectacle of muddled, fumbling attempts by the Government to reassure the public that of course statehood would depend on Hamas releasing the hostages, but at the same time also assuring the mob that recognition wouldn't depend on anything that Hamas does or does not do. That assurance, like the announcement itself, was not enough to satisfy the Palestine fanatics who don't care about 'two states' and clamour instead for zero Jewish states. They responded with calls to lock up the Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, as a war criminal and target Labour MPs' constituency offices. This should not surprise anyone. It's how appeasement always plays out; it is a bottomless pit. Give an inch and they'll take the country. It is no good proscribing Palestine Action unless the Government is willing to tackle the rest too, from the bloodcurdling Islamist sermons, to the terrorist-supporting marchers, to the radicalisation of our young people. And they cannot hope to succeed at any of that whilst playing to extremists at home with inflammatory foreign policy gestures relating to a conflict thousands of miles away in which Britain is totally irrelevant. Proscribing Palestine Action was a good start. British people want to see muscular action to fight extremism here at home, not foreign policy announcements that excite only the fanatics. Sir Keir, please stop dabbling in futile diplomacy in the Middle East and take real action on the disaster unfolding right here in Britain.

North London shooting victim was ‘deeply loved' father-of-one

The victim of a fatal shooting in north London has been named by police as Erdal Ozmen, a 'deeply loved' father-of-one. A murder investigation was opened after Mr Ozmen, 45, was killed in Stoke Newington in the early hours of Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police said. He was found with gunshot injuries at an address in Dynevor Road at 12.18am and later pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Ozmen was 'deeply loved by his family', detectives said on Wednesday as they appealed for witnesses to help find his killer. The motive for the murder remains unclear, the force said. No arrests have been made. Forensic officers in scrubs and masks were at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, alongside several police officers. Det Ch Insp Dave Whellams, who is leading the investigation, said: 'We continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward following the fatal shooting of Erdal. 'He was a father-of-one and was deeply loved by his family. 'Today, we are asking the public for assistance. Were you in the Dynevor Road area late on Monday night into early Tuesday morning? Did you see anyone acting out of the ordinary? 'Did you hear anything at all which perhaps seemed unusual – maybe people shouting, or a loud vehicle? 'The smallest piece of information could play a significant role in our investigation.' A post-mortem examination has not yet been carried out but Mr Ozmen's family are being supported by specialist officers. Residents woke to gunshots Liza Dodds, 58, a youth worker who lives opposite Dynevor Road, said: 'My husband woke up and said there was gunshots. The instant reaction was 'how do you know?' 'We both got up and had a look. A police officer was doing CPR where the person fell. It seemed like they were going forever.' Another resident said: 'I heard a few gunshots and the first thing I thought was that it was fireworks, because you don't expect it to be a gun. 'I was trying to sleep but then later I heard sirens from the police cars.' One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: 'We were out when it happened so we didn't hear or see anything. 'But when we came back at around 1am, the whole area was cordoned off and the police officers told us that it will be a crime scene for a couple of days.'

Moment drunken yobs spark emergency at 30,000 feet by refusing to stop vaping - forcing plane to turn back an hour into flight

Two drunken yobs caused a plane to return to the UK an hour into their flight as they refused to stop vaping in their seats. Police were called to Stansted Airport, where they waited for a Jet2 flight bound for Heraklion in Crete to return to London. Families were left extremely frustrated that the two men who were 'drunk as skunks' were allowed on board before take-off. Passengers said the pair started drinking alcohol after the scheduled 5.55am departure on Tuesday was delayed. Once the flight took off, pilots were forced to declare an emergency an hour into the flight and turn back to Stansted Airport. Footage shows the moment officers rushed onto the twin-jet Airbus A321 at 9.36am to cheers from passengers on he plane to detain the duo. One of the men was arrested after he was allegedly carrying cocaine and MDMA. Angry passengers let out their frustrations as one woman tells the men to 'get off!' while another shouts 'loser! before describing the pair as 'f****** b***ends!'. 'Do not get on a flight if you cannot control your drink!', another says before adding 'we love you police - thank you!'. However, one passenger was able to crack a joke as she quipped, 'nothing beats a Jet2 holiday' following the viral ad campaign starring pop star Jess Glynne. The duo, one of whom was wearing a back-to-front black baseball cap, ignored a cockpit announcement that warned that if they didn't stop vaping, the flight would have to return to the UK, one passenger revealed. The passenger said: 'On the flight the duo were so obnoxious. They began vaping, then kicked off when told to stop smoking. 'They couldn't understand or care just how dangerous it was for everyone on the plane. A source told The Sun: 'Passengers were livid. Everyone was looking forward to the start of the holiday.' They added: 'There were lots of kids on the plane and the airline should not allow these lunatics to spoil hard earned holidays.' The holidaymakers on the plane had to wait at Stansted Airport throughout the day for a service that evening that could take them on the four-hour journey to Greece. It is understood that Jet2 gave passengers a £10 voucher to be redeemed in WHSmith at Stansted. The airline has confirmed that a passenger has been handed a life ban as they described the behaviour as 'disgraceful' and 'aggressive'. A Jet2 spokesperson said: 'We can confirm that a customer has been issued with a lifetime ban following a catalogue of disgraceful and aggressive behaviour, which led to flight LS1577 from London Stansted to Crete Heraklion having to return to Stansted so that police could offload them. 'We would like to thank the police and our crew for their handling of this difficult situation. 'As a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behaviour and we will fully support the authorities with any subsequent investigation, including prosecutions and pursuing civil proceedings if necessary.' An Essex Police spokesman said: 'We were called at around 8.40am on Tuesday 5 August to reports of a disruptive passenger on board a flight bound for Greece. 'Officers were alerted to the flight's imminent return to Stansted Airport and detained two passengers for searches. 'A man, aged in his 20s, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was taken into custody after a quantity of suspected Class A drugs was found. 'He has since been released under investigation.' The second passenger was detained by officers for a stop and search but was not arrested.
