But those who have already witnessed it would know it bears repeating. Last year, she embarked on her first headlining tour — yes, her first, if you can believe it — with a mind-blowing spectacle set against a journey into outer space. Accompanied by Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland, she toured her decades-long discography with a teeming crew of backup dancers, bringing audiences to the heavens with finely choreographed numbers and an arsenal of hits.
At Coachella, there were no special guests or dynamic tweaks, just the innovative strain of music and performance that grafted her brand of hip-hop onto mainstream pop. 'This is the one and only time you'll see anything like this in your life. So, shall we begin?' said the narrator at the beginning of the performance. The message rang true — after all, who's to say when Elliott will once again choose to grace us with her genius?
To kick off her set, Elliott channeled 'Transformers' with a car exoskeleton that she shed to reveal a sparkling racing outfit with a bedazzled bike helmet. She ripped through 'We Run This' and '4 My People,' two relative kernels in her oeuvre, before addressing the crowd: 'What's up Coachella! I say what's up Coachella! OK so I want to see if I can take you way back. Can I take you way back? Day one Missy Elliott fans make some noise! We gon' take it back, like 90-something? Let's go.'
Thus began the parade of hits, from 'I'm Really Hot' and 'Gossip Folks' to 'One Minute Man' and 'Hot Boyz.' She took attendees on a trip to Planet Neon, decked out in neon outfits to the tune of 'Work It' and 'Pass That Dutch' to a fitting conclusion of 'Lose Control.' There were familiar touchstones across decades, paced to a steady rhythm. It was exactly what you'd expect, and hope for, from Elliott, even after all these years.
It's easy to take for granted how transformative and truly original — a designation that's truly difficult to come by these days – Elliott has been throughout her career. 'Out of This World' was a victory lap, a reinforcement of excellence to longtime fans and those still discovering her music. Those who have kept tabs know that Elliott is for the ages; Coachella was just another reminder of that.

Hundreds of protesters turn up to support Irish rapper as he appears in court on terror charge
A rapper from Irish language rap group Kneecap was greeted by hundreds of supporters waving flags and holding banners as he arrived in court on Wednesday morning on a terror charge. Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who performs as Mo Chara, has been accused of displaying a flag in support of the Lebanese group, Hezbollah who are a designated terror group in the UK. London's Metropolitan Police launched an investigation in April after a video surfaced online of Ó hAnnaidh allegedly displaying the flag during a London gig in 2024. Ó hAnnaidh has denied the charges, saying he does not support Hezbollah and called his prosecution a 'carnival of distraction' deflecting from current events in Gaza. A scrum with photographers broke out as Ó hAnnaidh arrived at London's Westminster Magistrates Court, alongside fellow bandmates Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh, as crowds waved Palestinian flags and chanted loudly, 'Free Mo Chara.' Ó hAnnaidh spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address to the court at the start of the hearing. The court heard legal arguments, with Ó hAnnaidh's defense team seeking to throw the case out, arguing it was not brought within the legal limit of six months. Judge Paul Goldspring adjourned the case until September 26, when he will give his decision. The 27-year-old left court without entering a plea, and will be required to appear at the next hearing. Leaving the courthouse, he was met with chants of 'Drop the charges now' from his supporters. The investigation was launched shortly after an appearance by the band at the California music festival, Coachella, at which they projected messages onstage about Israel's war in Gaza. On Tuesday evening, police announced public order restrictions on the protests in order to 'prevent serious disruption,' confining gatherings to a designated area outside the court. From early on Wednesday morning, crowds of protesters congregated outside the central London court. Speaking to CNN, one supporter, Mike McCusker, 62, said he had been following Kneecap since 2019. 'I've seen them a dozen times, they've always stood against oppression,' he said. Kneecap, who rap mainly in Irish, have steadily built up an international fanbase, gaining praise for their efforts to revitalize the Irish language. Formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2017, the band have sought to modernize the language through their rap songs depicting their experiences growing up in the wake of a decades long sectarian conflict, the Troubles. Laden with references to drug and alcohol use and critiques of the British government, the band's music has made them no stranger to controversy over the years. In 2024, the trio released their second studio album 'Fine Art' and a self-titled semi-autobiographical feature film which won acclaim from critics and scooped up awards at both the British Independent Film Awards and the Sundance Film Festival. The band have been long-time advocates for the rights of Palestinians. Their performance at UK music festival Glastonbury in June became mired in controversy after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the group should not have been allowed to perform in light of the charges faced by Ó hAnnaidh. The group are next set to play at several more European festivals this summer before a headline gig in London's Wembley Arena on September 18. CNN's Sophie Tanno contributed reporting.

Ada Choi on husband's heart problem: I felt so guilty!
19 Aug - Following Max Zhang's viral story about how he had a near-death experience with a heart attack back in April, Ada Choi recently shared her side of the story during the press conference of her new drama, "Behind the Queen". The actress, who was asked about Max's story, where he revealed he experienced a heart attack while she was waiting to ride the duck boat, shared that the actor actually felt unwell twice in March prior to their trip, but his ECG showed nothing worrying. "Then in April, while we were in Singapore having fun, he suddenly couldn't breathe, couldn't move, and couldn't speak. He had to sit down to the side. I was so bad, I actually left him to go ride the duck boat, thinking he just had a cold. But later, seeing how pale he was, I knew something was seriously wrong. After a while, he said he was okay," she said. Ada said that it was the next morning that Max finally told her what happened while tearing up. "He told me that at that moment, looking at the four of us, he thought that if he lay down, he might never get back up again and he had to force himself to stand up. He cried as he told me this. I had never seen him like that before," she said. The actress said that upon returning to Hong Kong, Max had to undergo angioplasty after further tests showed that one of his arteries was more than 80 percent blocked. "When I found out about it, I felt so guilty. I got down on my knees and cried, wondering how I could have failed so badly as a wife. I just hugged him and thanked God he was okay. If something had happened to him, I would've gone crazy," she said. Ada also assured that the actor is doing much better now, and that he has already returned to mainland China to film "Call Me By Fire". "He's fine after the surgery.
