I've only ever used expensive SPFs – until I found one that made my skin glow
First and foremost, it protects against UVA and UVB damage. As well as that, there's niacinamide in there which is well known for its soothing, redness-reducing capabilities. Where things get really exciting is in the inclusion of Gluta-Amino, the brand's newest patented technology developed off the back of an impressive €3.2m Unilever investment. Designed to 'support the skin's natural production of its master antioxidant and detoxifier,' a study published in the Journal of The European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology confirmed that it really works -increasing skin's glutathione levels, reducing free radicals and protecting against key environmental stressors including blue light and pollution. All well and good, but what does that really mean? Essentially, this SPF helps to protect skin from the harmful effects of UV, defend against damage cause by blue light and pollution and even help reverse existing damage. That means, if you already have dark spots and an uneven skin tone, this could be just the tonic. Plus, it's suited to all skin colours - no white cast to be seen. It's impressive stuff. 1.
Simple Glow+ SPF50 Invisible UV Fluid
Price: $8.66 (was £12.99)
What Simple says: 'Meet Simple Invisible UV Fluid with SPF 50, a groundbreaking addition to your skin care routine that redefines high UVA/UVB sun protection and radiance. Powered by Gluta-Amino™* and niacinamide, this advanced formula helps protect your skin against UV-induced pigmentation while working to visibly reduce dark spots and even skin tone for a brighter, more luminous complexion.'
What we know: Simple's new SPF contains Gluta-Amino, the brand's newest patented technology developed off the back of an impressive €3.2m investment by Unilever. Designed to 'support the skin's natural production of its master antioxidant and detoxifier,' a study published in the Journal of The European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology confirmed that it really works- increasing skin's glutathione levels, reducing free radicals, and protecting against key environmental stressors including blue light and pollution. All well and good. But in basic terms? Essentially, this SPF helps to protect skin from the harmful effects of UV, defend skin against damage cause by blue light and pollution and even help reverse damage.
Rachael Martin beauty director says: 'The formula is light and milky. It smooths onto my skin beautifully and leaves me with a veil of radiance. It's not sparkly at all, but definitely glowy. I'm an oily skinned gal - as the day goes on my t-zone is the first to betray me. Not with this though, it's non greasy, allowing for all the glow and non of the grease. I've been using this as my daily SPF throughout the heat wave and have been so impressed. It plays beautifully under make-up (almost acting like a primer) and, crucially, I haven't burnt once.' Pros Ideal for senstive skin
Brimming with actives
Perfume fre Cons
'I always ensure to give the tube a good shake - this is great for ensuring all the ingredients are mixed well with no separation. After applying my moisturiser, I'll take two finger lengths across my face and a third down my neck. Then, if I remember, I'll go in with a forth finger length across my décolletage. This may seem like a lot of product, and, to be honest, it probably is. But this is what dermatologists recommend, again reiterating the need for me to choose an affordable SPF. This is the final step in my morning skincare routine before I follow with make-up.'
Rachael Martin, beauty director:
'A couple of months ago, Simple invited beauty editors on an overnight stay to celebrate a top secret launch. This top secret in question? The Simple Glow+ SPF 50 Invisible Fluid. The timing was perfect. The sun was shining and - uncharacteristically for the UK - has continued to do so ever since. Yet the thought of a new SPF doesn't fill me with instant joy. I have sensitive skin prone to blemishes and redness, so, as ever, was initially apprehensive about adding this to my routine. But after learning a bit more about the product I began to feel hopeful. 'Its ultra-lightweight and non-greasy, top dermatologist Dr Beibei Du-Harpur told me me. 'It's also been tested on sensitive skin, and is suited to all skin types.' Of course, in Dr Beibei Du-Harper I trust, and so the testing began.
Let's begin with first impressions. Texture. The formula is light and milky. It smooths onto my skin beautifully and leaves me with a veil of radiance. It's not sparkly at all, but there's definite radiance to the formula. I'm an oily skinned gal- as the day goes on my t-zone is the first to betray me. Not with this though, it's non greasy, allowing for all the glow and non of the grease. I've been using this as my daily SPF throughout the heatwave and have been so impressed. It plays beautifully under make-up (acting like a primer) and, crucially, I haven't burnt once. And of course, the price is something to shout about. Coming in at £12.99 (and on sale for £8.66) it's a total beauty bargain and measures up to some of the more expensive SPFs I've tried this year. But what about damage reversal? My skin does look more even in tone and texture without make-up, and I think some of my dark spots of pigmentation have minimised - especially around my upper lip. After two months of testing the changes are subtle, but they are definitely there.
Backed by clinically proven results, this SPF is not to be sniffed at. Where protection and damage reversal are concerned you'd be hard pressed to find something better. Especially for the price.

Perimenopausal woman loses nearly 3 stone in 5 months even though she 'loves food'
Rochelle last 40 pounds within five months through intermittent fasting with the help of a handy app Financial aid officer and Portland based musical theatre performer Rochelle came across the Simple app one night after getting to a "point of desperation" with her body image. "Being perimenopausal, knowing that I was gaining a bunch of weight and not being able to take it off and knowing that I needed to get at a certain point of taking off weight" is what lead Rochelle to this stage, she says. "I'd heard everybody talking about intermittent fasting and I'm just going to say this flat out: I love food. So starting to not have food at certain times, I was thinking: 'This is never going to work for me'. However, after about two weeks in, I got used to not having to eat at night." Boots reduces 'charming' £66 perfume that 'makes you feel like royalty' to £26 48p-a-day supplement 'solved tummy issues' for shoppers but deal ends soon With an increase of people such as Rochelle focusing on their health and wellbeing, customers can join similar journeys and use the code REACH60 to get a 60% discount on tailored weight loss plans from the Simple app, which includes intermittent fasting options. The user-friendly app helps customers begin their journey by first completing a survey covering their health goals, concerns, preferences and past experiences with weight loss. Once this is completed, they will gain access to a range of features such as food logging through typing, voice or photo and a Nutriscanner. When it comes to intermittent fasting, the Simple method doesn't include calorie counting, cutting out essential food groups or weighing every bite. Instead, it prioritises safety and sustainability, which is what Rochelle also experienced. "I still go out and have my fish and chips at my pub. I have my hamburger but instead of getting french fries, I'm getting a salad next to it. I've found the love of avocados again and actually using mushrooms," she says. "I break my fast with a really good Greek yogurt and granola with nuts in it - either almonds, walnuts or just some sort of nut going into it. I haven't changed a lot of what I'm eating, just when I'm eating." The app also offers daily workout plans that are tailored into seven-day plans, which can include strength training, cardio and even wall pilates. A huge feature that sets the Simple app apart is in the in-app coach, Avo. Powered by AI, Avo is a personal wellness assistant that can answer user queries instantly, meaning users have round-the-clock access to wellbeing and fitness advice whenever required. Rochelle, who has lost 40 pounds within the first five months of being on the programme, says she still uses the scanning feature every day on Avo, using the app to be able to see all her food and how health it is. "I do the daily check ins using the Simple app and using Avo and I can figure out if I'm still on track. I am still on track and I'm still losing," she says. "I still have about 35 pounds to go where I want to be at this point, and I'm just doing it in little chunks and not a big: 'I have to lose 150 pounds'." "I'm taking it in small bits and pieces so that it is manageable and that I don't get discouraged because I'm not losing fast enough or anything like that. But it's been easy. It's been a lot easier than I thought it would... If I can do it because I love my food... anybody can do it," she says. If this app isn't for everyone, there are a range of others on the market such as MyFitnessPal which is a health and fitness tracking smartphone app and website that is available for Android and iOS devices. Customers are able to login and track their calorie intake, exercise and weight loss goals in aims to help them. Another option could be Lifesum which is a global platform that tracks food intake and exercise, offers personalised feedback, recipes and meal plans. However, with 17 million downloads, shoppers have shared their opinions on the Simple app. One said: 'This app has been absolutely life changing for me... it just made everything so simple... I can actually do things I love to do... like a long walk with my kids." Matt, who has lost 57 lbs with Simple, said it has been a 'game changer' in his life, after he struggled with being consistent but thanks to the app he was able to change this. Chris, who lost 45 pounds with Simple said he 'loves the recipes' the AI coach Avo recommends him, and also uses the food feedback tool to help him learn. Some others shared different opinions on Trustpilot, however, as one person said: "I found it overwhelming. Suddenly I had registered for trainers, advisors, and other things that would occupy my whole day. I was simply interested in a few exercise ideas and different easy meal plans." However, Rochelle says that: "People at work were like: 'Wait a second, you're disappearing,' which was a great thing. Of course now I've had to go out and buy all new clothes because nothings fitting at this point. That's a lovely thing and it was actually very easy once I got used to it and got everything up and running." Tailored plans are available from The Simple app.

Woman lost 3 stone after turning 40 and feeling 'frumpy, funky and flabby'
A woman who has shed 45 pounds using an AI coaching app has revealed that when she reached 40 she felt 'frumpy, funky and flabby.' But having discovered an app that helped her shed the weight, she hailed is as " not a diet, it's a lifestyle change." Meredith Lewis revealed she had been concentrating on her husband, who had experienced his own medical crisis, and explained that over a two-year period she had 'lost sight of' her own health. She said: "I think, like most women, when they hit 40 years old, they're optimistic and thinking, I'm going to be 40 and fabulous. But for me, I felt forty, frumpy, funky and flabby, and I knew I needed to change something. "Over the last two years, I've been focusing on my husband, helping him through his medical crisis that he went through, and making sure that he's here for us still. But in that two year time frame, I lost all sight of myself, all sight of my own health and nutrition and exercise routines that I used to do." "So I started to search online for the newest fad, the newest diet, whatever it may be. And thank you to my algorithm for showing me a reel on Facebook from the Simple app," reports Belfast Live. The Simple App - currently offering 60% off weight loss plans with the code REACH60 - is an AI-powered coaching tool designed for adults aiming to lead a healthier lifestyle. Built by a team of experts in nutrition, behaviour change, digital health and medicine, the app supports users in kickstarting their personal wellness journey. To get started, users complete a detailed survey covering their health goals, preferences, and past weight loss experiences. Once set up, they can access features like food logging - via typing, voice, or photo - a NutriScanner to help break down meal nutrition, daily workout plans including wall pilates, and round-the-clock support from Avo - the app's AI coach, ready to answer questions anytime, day or night. "This isn't a diet," Lewis says. "It's a lifestyle change. I don't think of this as being a short term solution for a long term problem. This is a long term solution for a short term problem." So far she has been on Simple app for 101 days. "I am down 46 pounds. I'm almost to my first goal weight, I wanted to make sure I had a realistic goal to start with, so I put a 55 pound weight loss as my first goal," she says. "I'm almost there in 101 days without starving myself, without killing myself doing cardio for four hours a day, or whatever by doing this the Simple way you can do this, the Simple way with the Simple app. It's that easy. It really is. "You figure out your fasting window and your eating window. The app alerts you when it's time to eat. It alerts you when it's time to start your fast." Boasting over 17 million downloads, the app is praised for its gentle approach to forming healthier habits through small and consistent daily choices. It doesn't require users to restrict food groups and provides non-judgemental, real-time, personalised feedback and answers. She further commented: "I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't feel like I was starving or neglecting or denying myself anything at any point in time. In fact, you're not denying yourself anything with intermittent fasting. You can eat what you want. "You're just delaying when you eat it. So if you're craving pizza, you can have some pizza. I'm just going to have it when my eating windows open." Another advantage she mentions is the app's nutrition tracking feature, which she says has "been a big eye opener for me, and realising that the food that's on my plate that I put into my body really is the fuel to keep me moving, to keep me going for the next 24 hours." Since using the Simple app, she has noticed significant health benefits, including improved sleep quality. As someone who "used to be a big toss and turner, any little noise would wake me up", she says: "I haven't slept this good since before we had babies I think, so that is a huge, huge advantage right there is just the sleep, but obviously losing weight, taking that stress off of my joints, off of my back, has been a big thing for me, also just my cardiovascular health and feeling that I have more energy so I can go and do these workouts like I want to do." She plans to "continue to use Simple even after I have met my goal weight for when I go into a maintenance phase. Again, this is a lifestyle, it's not a diet. So I am making sure that this is a continual part of my lifestyle for the long term, so knowing that you can adjust it as needed." Holidays can sometimes complicate any eating plan or new routine, but Meredith also found using Simple while away was beneficial. She explains: "I just got back from a three week holiday. I didn't stop using Simple, I continued to use it, I just modified it. So I opened up my eating window a little bit longer, so instead of only eating for six hours, I'd eat for eight hours so that I could enjoy going out to eat at restaurants with family and friends, or having that late night dessert that I used to always have, but I really wanted it when I was down at my favourite restaurant in Texas." If this particular app isn't quite right, there are numerous other alternatives to consider. MyFitnessPal, for instance, stands as a widely-used health and fitness monitoring app and website accessible on both Android and iOS platforms. It enables users to log and monitor their calorie consumption, exercise routines and weight reduction targets, assisting them in keeping track of their advancement. Another excellent option is Lifesum - a worldwide platform that tracks food consumption and physical activity whilst providing tailored feedback, meal plans, and recipes to encourage a healthier way of living. Fans seem to be impressed with the Simple app, giving it an impressive 4.3 out of 5 star rating on Trustpilot. One user said: "Helpful app! The suggestions for better diet choices specific to what you have in the fridge/pantry is super helpful. Great feedback for menu suggestions, snack ideas, encouragement to move without guilting you, and daily (friendly) nudges to record what I am doing." Another simply added: "Easy to use and motivating." Not everyone agreed however, as some others shared opposing reviews. One said: "I have been in the program for three weeks and have been fasting, eating healthier, and exercising, but the weight keeps fluctuating and isn't dropping like I expected it to." Most reviews were positive, with another customer explaining: "I am still in the beginning of my journey with Simple and, having had some questions, I had a very good and supportive experience with the support team. Glad to have learned how much easy talking can be!" Simple is currently available at a 60% discount with the code REACH60.
