King Charles shows off brand new £170k BMW as he overhauls fleet of royal cars

King Charles was seen riding in a new top-of-the-range black BMW i7 M70 xDrive as he was driven to a service at St Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate
The King has been spotted in a brand new £170,000 electric BMW as he continues to swap his fleet of royal cars for greener alternatives. Charles was seen riding in the back of his new top-of-the-range black BMW i7 M70 xDrive after buying the vehicle earlier this year.
It was his first outing in the new motor, with the monarch opting to use it to be taken to a Sunday service at St Mary Magdalene Church on t he Sandringham estate at the weekend. The eco-conscious King has long been a champion of nature and green causes and previously spent years as Prince of Wales trying to drive action on environmental issues.

The green BMW is the latest electric car to be added to the King's fleet, which is now said to include a £160,000 Electric Lotus.
It is believed Charles has ordered the Lotus Eletre painted in the traditional Royal Claret livery, which is seen on other royal and state cars, to be used at one of his country estates.
He first purchased an electric car back in 2018, when he splashed out on an EV400 HSE Jaguar I-Pace. He has since revealed that his cherished vintage Aston Martin DB6, a 21st birthday present from the late Queen, has also been converted to run on biofuel.
In a 2021 interview, when asked if he was a "bit of a Clarkson" and a "petrol head", Charles replied: "Yes, but that was before we knew what the problems were.
"But my old Aston Martin, which I've had for 51 years, I've managed to convert. I hardly have a chance to drive it now, but that now runs on waste products, can you believe this, surplus English white wine and whey from the cheese process."

Meanwhile, last year at the annual review of the royal household's finances, Sir Michael Stevens, keeper of the privy purse, revealed the two existing state Bentleys would also be refurbished to run on biofuel, with fully electric state cars a possibility for the future.
It comes as other steps the King has taken to reduce his carbon footprint have included installing solar panels on Clarence House and at Highgrove and Windsor Castle, turning down the heat at the Buckingham Palace swimming pool and using biomass boilers that use wood chippings to heat his Birkhall estate.
The King once explored his passion for environmental causes in his 2010 book called Harmony: A New Way of Looking At Our World, which called for a shift in how we interact with nature.
However, the King previously admitted that he was becoming "a frustrated old man" with his attitude towards the global climate emergency. He said the world must rely on the younger generation if it wants to avert an environmental catastrophe in the next few years.

Ultra-Rare BMW 507 For Sale With Eye-Popping Pricetag

A rare example of one of BMW's early sports cars is up for sale, but it's unlikely we'll be able to afford it. A rare piece of German motoring You can never go wrong with a vintage BMW. The German automaker's classic examples have a special way of combining slim bodylines and a svelte silhouette with sheer, menacing performance under the hood. This 1959 BMW 5078 Series II on Bring a Trailer is a perfect example of what I mean. 1959 BMW 507 Series II w/Hardtop — Source: Bring a Trailer/Hyman Ltd When US importer Max Hoffman suggested that BMW design as mid-level sports car for the North American market, BMW replied with the 507. Featuring hand-built aluminum bodywork styled by Albrecht von Goertz, the 507 debuted in 1955 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City before entering production in late 1956. In 1957, the Series II debuted with a smaller fuel tank relocated from behind the seats to inside the trunk to prevent fumes from entering the cabin. This particular example, Chassis 70185, is one of only 252 built during the model's three years of production and was completed on October 6, 1958 as a Feather White car before being delivered new on October 31, 1958, to Autohaus H. Bäte KG in Hannover, Germany. The car reportedly underwent a refurbishment around 2012 that included a repaint in its current shade of Coral Red and a refinishing of its hardtop in an ivory color. The 507 was then acquired in 2022 by German specialists Arthur Bechtel Classic Motors, who re-trimmed the interior in tan leather. 1959 BMW 507 Series II w/Hardtop What sets this particular BMW 507 apart from others is its ivory hardtop that can be installed when the beige convertible top is not in use. Hardtops were optional equipment at the time and were hand-built to fit each car's hand-built bodywork, making them particularly rare and special accessories to own. This tiny thing has a V8 hiding inside Under the hood is a 3,168cc V8 with an aluminum block and cylinder heads as well as twin Zenith carburetors mated to a four-speed manual transmission. This 507 sits on 16' Rudge wheels wrapped in 6.00-16 Michelin Pilote X tires with Dunlop front disc and rear drum brakes behind them. The cabin still wears its tan leather and sports a contrasting ivory steering wheel and shift knob alongside a Becker Mexico radio. The odometer shows around 33,000 kilometers (~21,000 miles), with 25 of those being added by the current owner. 1959 BMW 507 Series II w/Hardtop — Source: Bring a Trailer/Hyman Ltd Final thoughts The auction ends in 9 days with a current bid of $1,000,000, so it's unlikely that you and I will be able to afford such a beauty. Considering that it was purchased from a collection by its current owner in January 2025 and they only added 25 miles since, this poor thing suffers from a severe lack of being driven. This isn't an uncommon occurence with cars of this rarity and value, but it's also not an excuse. I won't go on a tangent about why driving your cars is the right thing to do, but I sure hope that the new owner feels the same way.

German Automakers Discussing U.S. Tariff Deal, What You Need to Know

Germany's automakers could reach a tariff deal by early June Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW are leading talks with Washington over a tariff deal involving German automakers receiving credits for vehicles they export from America to other countries, which would lower or offset the tariffs on cars they import into the U.S. from Germany. America is the European Union's (EU) fifth-largest vehicle export destination after China, Japan, Britain, and Turkey, according to Reuters, but the U.S. is the largest export destination for German cars. Mercedes-Benz is expanding its U.S. production by manufacturing its GLC SUV at its Alabama plant starting in 2027, BMW is considering adding shifts at its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, and Volkswagen's Audi mulls over producing some vehicles in the U.S.—a plan predating the Trump administration. Germany's leading automakers are aiming for talks with the U.S. Department of Commerce to result in a tariff deal in June. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ — Source: Mercedes-AMG Germany already has a relatively sizable U.S. auto production presence The potential new and current investments that the Commerce Department is reviewing from German automakers are worth billions of dollars. BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said that the manufacturer's Spartanburg plant supports 43,000 jobs and contributes over $26 billion yearly. While many European automakers withdrew their 2025 financial forecasts, BMW is backing its March projections alongside Ferrari, which also stood by its 2025 earnings forecast. However, BMW's decision to stick with its 2025 guidance is partially based on the idea that some tariffs will go into reverse from July at the latest. BMW finance chief Walter Mertl said: 'We are noticing that things are moving, developing, and being negotiated everywhere. Accordingly, our reading, based on all the networks that we have at our disposal, is that we assume that something will change in July,' Just Auto reports. The German automaker's 2025 outlook includes earnings on par with 2024 and an operating margin in the car segment of 5-7%, according to Reuters. The head of Germany's auto lobby, Hildegard Müller, highlighted in an interview with Politico that Germany produces about 840,000 vehicles annually within the U.S. for both the American market and exports, with 140,000 total employees. In addition to BMW's Spartanburg plant, Mercedes-Benz's Tuscaloosa, Alabama factory has been operating since 1997, resulting in approximately four million vehicles produced. Volkswagen's Chattanooga plant, which opened in 2011, built 175,000 cars in 2023. Müller also pointed out that building a U.S. automotive plant, even if you're quick, takes one or two years, and companies are losing money fast. U.S. tariffs are causing manufacturers like BMW to lose $11.3 million daily and impacting about €67 billion ($76 billion) of EU automotive exports, Euronews reports. Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 — Source: Volkswagen Final thoughts Automakers like Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz are pushing for a U.S. tariff deal with the selling point that German automakers receive credits based on the number of vehicles Germany produces in America to reduce the two countries' car market trade deficit. However, if the tariffs stay in place, powerful voices in the automotive industry, like Hildegard Müller, noted that these policies can lower the pressure that U.S. car manufacturers face to be innovative, weakening their international competitiveness in the medium term. BMW's Most Controversial M3 Is Getting Closer

BMW's Next M3 Will Bridge The Gap Between Present And Future Whether you like it or not, an electric M3 is coming eventually, and it'll have far more horsepower on tap than any combustion-powered M3 so far has offered. But like all future products, we don't yet know the exact specifics, and some of those specifics concern the styling. Fortunately, our spy photographers have snapped a pre-production development prototype somewhere in Europe (we don't know exactly where as the license plates are blurred according to regional privacy laws), and it seems to be drawing inspiration from multiple sources, both contemporary and future. 0:06 / 0:09 Tesla sales in Europe drop yet again Watch More Styling And Tech Will Be A Blend Of New And Newer From the front, it's immediately evident that the electric M3 will take its styling influence from the Vision Neue Klasse concept from the 2023 Munich Motor Show, which was, in turn, inspired by the general aesthetic of the color-changing i Vision Dee concept. While those concepts certainly look futuristic, elements of their design approach are already making their way to production. Just take a look at the latest X3 to see how BMW's design is shifting, but for more concrete evidence as it relates to the M3 sedan, check out the G90 BMW M5, which seems to be preparing to have its headlights shrouded in kidney-shaped illumination. This M3 prototype has a very similar shape to the current M5's rear end, and while the M3 prototype is still wearing placeholder taillight clusters, their positioning and orientation indicate that the production units will likely be very similar to those on its bigger, contemporary sibling. As some rendering artists have already suggested, the G90's design is likely meant to smoothen the transition to Neue Klasse styling, something that Autocar reports is imminent. Inside, we can see evidence of BMW's next-gen Panoramic iDrive infotainment system, which we got a preview of at CES 2025. Loads Of Power So Drivers Can Escape The Haters Don't worry – a combustion-powered M3 will still be on offer for many years to come, but BMW wants to offer a variety of powertrain choices, and those who opt for a silent take on the iconic nameplate, we know that BMW has previously said that four motors and up to 1,341 horsepower can be features of high-performance EVs, but an M3 doesn't need quite so much grunt and capability. Not yet, anyway. Instead, roughly 700 hp should make sense. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Research and compare vehicles, too. The electric M3 is only expected to be revealed sometime next year, and with an on-sale date closer to 2027, that gives BMW time to widen the gap between the G9X M5 and the electrified M3, expected to adopt the ZA0 chassis code in sedan form and the ZA1 code in wagon form. An electric M4 seems unlikely, but a hybrid will exist, according to reporting from BMW Blog. We'll bring you more information (and images) as it arrives. Source: SH ProShots/Autoblog
