We Still Do: Zombie groom to renew vows after Halloween wedding

BBC News12-02-2025
A couple who invited ghosts, zombies and ghouls to their wedding reception are set to renew their vows in a mass ceremony at Coventry Cathedral.Kelly and Gavin Hobson had a unusual wedding day, when after the ceremony they swapped their classic wedding attire for fancy dress costumes for a Halloween-themed party. Mr Hobson dressed as a zombie groom, while his wife chose to be a witch for the reception. The couple now plan on renewing their commitment to each other during a ceremony on Valentine's Day in an event organised by BBC Radio CWR.
The We Still Do event will see them join 80 other couples in a mass renewal of vows at a ceremony conducted by the Reverend Canon Nitano Muller. The 14 February is particularly special for the Coventry pair who met, got engaged and found out they were pregnant with their first child on that date over the years. Mrs Hobson said they first met on social media in 2009 when she felt she was "done with love" after a break-up.
"I'd come out of quite a bad relationship and I'd posted on Facebook that if cupid came and knocked on my door now I would tell him to do one because all he ever brings is heartache and misery," she said. "And then on the same day I started up the first conversation with Gavin who became my husband." The pair were engaged on Valentine's Day two years later, before deciding on a quirky wedding, asking all guests to bring a costume to change into for a party that followed their more traditional wedding. "We're a bit wild and wacky so I really enjoyed the juxtaposition between having a traditional, big white dress wedding and then going into the craziness of a Halloween party," Mrs Hobson said. Talking about renewing their vows, Mr Hobson said they could not miss the opportunity to take part in the event on what is a "very special day" for the couple. "It's a day that's especially important to both of us so it will be great to reaffirm how we're going to move forward in life," he said."It was a massive opportunity we couldn't miss."

Pookie and Jett's throwback Trump photo sends the internet wild

A throwback photo of Campbell 'Pookie' and Jett Puckett wearing a Donald and Melania Trump Halloween costume has sent the internet wild with speculation about their political affiliation. The couple went viral after the internet caught onto Jett telling his wife she was 'looking absolutely fire tonight,' but now sleuths are digging into the Hermes-wearing couple's politics. An old photo of the pair dressed up as Donald and Melania at the President's 2017 inauguration resurfaced on Reddit. Pookie's dress was similar to the blue Ralph Lauren dress Melania wore, down to the blue gloves. Jett's outfit was also reminiscent of the tailored suits and trademark red tie Trump is often seen wearing. Although the Georgia-based couple has not addressed their political affiliation, many are speculating these old photos suggest they're Republicans. 'I would be more surprised if they dressed up as the Bidens lmao,' another wrote. 'Are y'all really surprised? Lol, I assumed this already,' a third fan wrote. 'I've never been less shocked in my life,' a fourth person wrote. The Atlanta-based couple met at a wine bar in Philadelphia after Jett approached her. They dated for ten months before getting engaged in 2018. They recently welcomed a baby together. Pookie was a former flight attendant and worked for the blog You Should Wear That. Wharton-educated Jett works in mergers and acquisitions in the dental industry. He began his career working in private equity, during which time his company bought up small dentist surgeries and other health businesses. They have been building their brand since 2020, but have recently taken off in part thanks to the discussion around her nickname. Fans have long been obsessed with the couple's relationship, with many praising how much Jett seems to appreciate his wife dressing up and surprising him. Theirs fans have also begun to speculate that they're acting for the camera. Pookie and Jett, who celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary in April, have also found themselves embroiled in a bitter controversy after images of Pookie 'cosplaying as a slave owner' at a plantation-themed party during her days as an Ole Miss college student resurfaced. Several unearthed photos of Pookie dressed in 'southern plantation glam' while attending the event have been posted on TikTok and Reddit last year - sparking a wave of backlash against the newly-minted influencer. The images show Pookie attending what appears to be an Antebellum-themed party, otherwise known as an 'Old South' party, at the University of Mississippi. Antebellum plantation-themed parties take inspiration from the period before the American Civil War, when wealthy white planters wielded the majority of power in the South - and often owned black slaves. In the images shared of Pookie, the influencer is seen dressed in a lacy pink-and-white ball gown, striking a number of poses, and standing alongside several fellow college students who are seen sporting similar attire. Pookie, who hasn't addressed her Melania outfit, did address her Ole Miss costume on her Instagram. 'As some of you may have seen, some old photos of mine recently resurfaced. At the time these photos were taken, I was 20. I didn't fully understand the impact of my actions the way I do now, 12 years later,' she wrote. 'I fully apologize for the harm this may have caused for some and take full responsibility. Jett and I love sharing our lives with you all and getting to know our community on such an intimate level. 'Because we live our lives so publicly, everything is on the internet, even my mistakes. We hope to continue to bring you with us on our journey as we continue to learn and grow.' Pookie currently has almost 200,000 TikTok followers and has gained more than six million likes.

‘For crying out loud' fume shoppers as chocolate advent calendar ALREADY on shelves at UK supermarket

One expert argues that shopping for Christmas early means you'll bag the best deals XMAS COMES EARLY 'For crying out loud' fume shoppers as chocolate advent calendar ALREADY on shelves at UK supermarket Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) DESPITE the UK basking in glorious sunshine and with still plenty of time left of August, some shops are sneaking in early Christmas treats. Fed-up shoppers took to social media to name and shame one supermarket after noticing an Advent calendar on its shelves. 2 The fancy Advent calendar is already in stores Credit: Facebook The shop in the firing line is B&M, after a photo of the Guylian countdown treat was shared on New Foods UK's Facebook. "For crying out loud, it is only August! Some of us haven't had our summer holiday yet," one moaned, adding angry-face emojis. Another pointed out: "The way the chocolate is going in b&m during this heat, I would hate to think what it would be like in Dec!" "It's bloody August!" a third echoed. "Can't we just enjoy summer? We'll have months of this to come," argued a forth. But not everyone was annoyed by the bargain retailers forward thinking. One person tagged her husband and wrote: "Please do not pass by this in B&M without buying me one!!" Another tagged a friend and said: "Get looking early. I'd like one of these please." The £12 calendar is filled with three different flavours of the iconic Belgian chocolates. From December 1 to 24, behind each door is a milk truffle, original seashell, or salted caramel delight. And it's not just Advent calendars that the bargain store is flogging. Another picture of seasonal goodies was shared on Dansway Gifts and Bargains UK Facebook Group. "Festive Chocolate Selection Boxes are BACK at B&M," one shopper wrote. "A few we found whilst in store today, there's lots of other Christmas chocolate to choose from!" But one disappointed customer penned: "We've not even finished summer yet or had Halloween. "I swear Christmas gets earlier and earlier every year, makes you wonder how long these chocolates sit there before we buy and save for Christmas." Another added: "Too soon for Christmas but I'd still scoff them." While it may feel premature to start stocking up on Christmas treats, bargain hunters often bag better deals in the off-season. In fact, one expert has shared why now is the ideal time to buy your festive decorations, and where to buy them. 2 B&M is also flogging selection packs of chocolates Credit: Alamy
