Trump announces plan to farewell 'terrific' Musk from the White House and hints at tech billionaire's future role

Daily Maila day ago

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he would hold a press conference with beleaguered advisor and billionaire Elon Musk to mark his last day as a special advisor to his administration.
'I am having a Press Conference tomorrow at 1:30 P.M. EST, with Elon Musk, at the Oval Office,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. 'This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way.'
Trump made the announcement as Musk conceded he would be stepping away from politics and his work at the White House and pivoting back to his businesses.
'Back to spending 24/7 at work,' wrote on Saturday. 'I must be super focused on X/xAI and Tesla.'
Musk, who was appointed by President Trump as a special government employee in January, is leaving his temporary position as scheduled, as his position was limited to 130 days.
His efforts founding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) earned the wrath of Democrats who protested his attempts to cut the federal workforce and cut government spending. Even some Republicans in Washington, DC were nervous about the political impact of some of his actions.
Musk appeared discouraged by the reception of DOGE, describing it as 'the whipping boy for everything' in Washington, DC.
'The federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than I realized,' he told The Washington Post in an interview. 'I thought there were problems, but it sure is an uphill battle trying to improve things in D.C., to say the least.'
Trump has spent less time amplifying Musk on social media and Musk also has tried to pivot away from politics in recent weeks, but both of the billionaires maintain respect with each other, people familiar with their relationship tell the Daily Mail.
Predictions that their friendship would eventually blow up never materialized, although Musk has expressed frustration with his efforts in Washington, DC.
Left-wing protesters burned effigies of Musk and carried signs calling for him to be deported as Tesla vehicles were burned and vandalized.
Musk drew attention with his untraditional antics as he appeared in cabinet meetings wearring a 'tech support' T-shirt with a MAGA hat. His appearance at CPAC was marked by him wielding a chainsaw and celebrating that 'I have become meme.'
Musk's remark to CBS on Wednesday criticizing the Republican-led 'Big Beautiful Bill' passed by the House of Representatives was widely seen as a veiled shot at Trump, as he prepares to leave Washington.

Musk's departure was celebrated by his enemies as the failure of DOGE as he once predicted he could cut $2 trillion in spending, but he conceded that so far only $150 billion of federal spending has been cut.
The White House repeated on Thursday that the work of DOGE would continue with many of Musk's team already embedded in most cabinet agencies in the Administration.
'Surely the mission of DOGE will continue and many DOGE employees are political employees and employees of our government, and to the best of my knowledge all of them intend to stay and continue this important work,' White House press secretary told reporters on Thursday.
Trump appeared eager to keep his friendship with Musk intact, hinting that he would always remain in his orbit.

Manson 'family' follower Patricia Krenwinkel recommenced for parole

LOS ANGELES, May 30 (Reuters) - A California prisons panel on Friday recommended that Patricia Krenwinkel, serving a life sentence for her role in murdering seven people in a 1969 Los Angeles killing spree by followers of cult leader Charles Manson, be released on parole. The state Board of Parole Hearings found that Krenwinkel, 77, the longest-serving female inmate in California prisons, posed little risk of reoffending based on her age and a spotless behavior record while incarcerated, according to the CBS News affiliate in San Diego, KFMP-TV. The state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the finding of parole suitability, which came on Krenwinkel's 16th parole hearing, but gave no further details. The decision amounts to a proposal subject to review by the full state Board of Parole Hearings and the California governor for up to 150 days before it can become final. Even if the full board affirms the finding of parole suitability, the governor could reject it or send it back for further review. A May 2022 parole board panel recommendation to free Krenwinkel was reversed by Governor Gavin Newsom in August of that year. Krenwinkel, incarcerated at the California Institution for Women, appeared with her lawyer during Friday's four-hour hearing but did not address the commissioners, KFMP reported. Several victims' family members spoke in opposition to her release. Krenwinkel was convicted on seven counts of first-degree murder in 1971 for participating in a bloody two-night rampage whose victims included actress Sharon Tate, the 26-year-old wife of filmmaker Roman Polanski. Tate, then eight months pregnant, was slain with four friends, among them coffee heiress Abigail Folger and hairstylist Jay Sebring, at the rented hillside house the actress and Polanski shared in the Benedict Canyon area of Los Angeles. Polanski was in Europe at the time. The following night grocery owner Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary were stabbed to death in their home, where the words "Death to Pigs" and "Healter Skelter," a misspelled reference to the Beatles song "Helter Skelter," were found scrawled in the victims' blood at the crime scene. Although Manson did not personally kill any of the seven victims, he was found guilty of ordering their murders as part of a delusional plot to ignite a race war. He, Krenwinkel and other members of his so-called "family" of hippies, runaways and misfits, including Leslie Van Houten, Susan Atkins and "Tex" Watson, were originally sentenced to death. Their sentences were commuted to life in prison after the California Supreme Court abolished capital punishment in the state in 1972. Manson died in prison at age 83 in 2017. Van Houten was released from prison on parole in 2023 after spending 53 years behind bars. Newsom had rejected her parole recommendation but was overruled by a California appeals court. The governor could have petitioned the state Supreme Court to review the case but opted not to, deciding that further efforts to keep Van Houten locked up were unlikely to succeed.

Kennedy Center vice president says he was fired over his Christian beliefs

A top Kennedy Center official says he has been fired over his Christian beliefs. Floyd Brown, a longtime right-wing activist with a history of anti-gay rhetoric, served for just over a month as vice president of development. Brown said he was sacked by interim Kennedy Center president Richard Grenell, hours after CNN contacted him with questions about his previous comments about same-sex marriage resurfaced. Brown called same-sex marriage 'godless' and 'a hoax,' described homosexuality as 'a punishment' for America, and promoted baseless conspiracy theories questioning former President Barack Obama 's birth certificate and religion. In a post to X Brown insisted that his personal views did not interfere with his professional conduct. 'I was fired yesterday by @RichardGrenell from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts,' Brown wrote on Thursday on X. 'My firing came approximately two hours after @CNN sent an email asking me to comment on my past writings and statements about traditional marriage and homosexual influence in the @ GOP.' 'Comments rooted in my personal Christian views, which I have made in the past, have no impact upon my work here at the Kennedy Center nor do they impinge on my interactions with colleagues who do incredible work for the patrons of the Center,' he wrote. 'As a Christian, I am called to work with others of different beliefs and worldviews.' Brown also shared the statement he said he provided to CNN: 'It was truly not my intention to offend anyone with my comments. I have never intended to attack or demean any person in my statements and have always shared the mission of Jesus, striving to love others unconditionally.' He further claimed that when he sought an explanation for his firing and requested to speak directly with Grenell, both requests were ignored. Brown stated that he was told: 'Floyd, you must recant your belief in traditional marriage and your past statements on the topic, or you will be fired.' He added, 'Needless to say, I refused to recant and was shown the door.' CNN reported that a source familiar with the Kennedy Center said Grenell had not met with Brown, was not involved in his hiring, and did not personally fire him. The Kennedy Center has also declined to comment on Brown's dismissal. Brown's abrupt firing comes amid a broader upheaval at the Kennedy Center since February, when former President Donald Trump named himself chairman and overhauled the institution's previously bipartisan board. Trump appointed Grenell - the first openly gay member of a presidential cabinet - as interim president, leading to a series of leadership changes and staffing cuts. Grenell has described the Kennedy Center's financial state as 'serious' and has voiced criticism of what he views as divisive diversity programming. 'We need to focus on common sense programming,' Grenell said in previous statements. Brown, who said he had been recruited to join the Center's development team, was responsible for overseeing major fundraising efforts, raising millions annually from corporations, foundations, and individual donors. His brief tenure had gone largely unnoticed until CNN's inquiry. Staffers reportedly raised concerns internally about Brown's past rhetoric and political background. Some questioned whether his history of incendiary comments, including criticisms of 'secular pro-gay culture', would alienate key donors in the traditionally progressive arts world. Brown did not directly address his past comments about Obama in his X post, focusing instead on his religious convictions. 'The amazing beauty of the MAGA movement is we have people of many different beliefs inside our tent,' he wrote. 'We are all working together in unity to Make America Great Again.' His firing has reignited debate over free speech, religious freedom, and the political direction of the Kennedy Center. While some conservatives have rallied to Brown's defense, others note the complexities of maintaining a fundraising arm in a politically and culturally diverse institution. Neither Grenell nor the Kennedy Center has issued a public statement addressing Brown's claims. The Kennedy Center, under Trump's direction, has already canceled upcoming World Pride events planned for June.
