Spanish police search for missing Briton after finding his abandoned van
Police in Spain are searching for a British man whose van was found abandoned near a popular beach resort on the Costa Brava coast.
Matthew Chapman, 24, from Manchester, was reported missing by his family on April 30.
Police said they found his van at a viewpoint on the road north from Tossa de Mar toward the town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
After conducting a two-day search, police called it off on Thursday, a spokeswoman for Catalonia's Mossos d'Esquadra told The Telegraph.
According to the Spanish news site ElCaso.com, police sources said Mr Chapman drove his van to France on May 1 via the Eurotunnel.
Signals from his two mobile phones showed him in both Spain and Portugal between May 2 and May 4, before being lost on the Costa Brava where his van was found.
Catalan police linked the van to Mr Chapman's missing person file on Interpol.
On Wednesday and Thursday last week, firefighters searched the area around the van with sniffer dogs and drones, but found no sign of him or a body.
'It was a land, sea and air search which took place on Wednesday and Thursday,' said a spokesman for Mossos d'Esquadra.
'The investigation into the missing man's whereabouts is continuing.'
According to sources from the investigation cited by ElCaso.com, Mr Chapman's family have told the police that he had a history of mental health problems.

Search for missing wife leads to arrest of Miami Fire captain, MDSO says
A Miami Fire Rescue captain was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly becoming irate during a missing persons investigation and throwing a case card at a responding deputy, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Maximo Vasquez Jr., 42, faces four misdemeanor charges, including assault on a law enforcement officer or firefighter, misuse of the 911 system, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence, according to the report. Incident began with missing person call The report states that deputies were dispatched at 3:42 a.m. Monday in response to a missing person call. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Vasquez, who was reportedly "visibly irate and shouting" over the disappearance of his wife. A deputy told Vasquez that a report would be generated and presented him with a Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office case card. Vasquez allegedly became more agitated and threw the card at the deputy, according to the report. He was taken into custody at the scene. Repeated 911 calls cited in report Prior to the arrest, Vasquez had called 911 twice during the night, the report states. On both occasions, deputies said he demeaned them and demanded they locate his wife. Following his arrest, Vasquez was booked at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Miami Fire Rescue responds In a statement, Miami Fire Rescue confirmed the arrest and said the department is aware of the incident involving a 15-year veteran firefighter. "At this time, we have not been in contact with the individual," the statement read. "Once contact is established, the department will initiate a thorough internal investigation in accordance with our policies and procedures."

New developments in search for Madeleine McCann, who went missing over 18 years ago A fresh search effort has been launched for Madeleine McCann, a British toddler who disappeared from her family's vacation rental in Portugal more than 18 years ago. Police haven't disclosed any evidence to explain why they decided to carry out a new search almost two decades later, but they were focusing Tuesday on land around a cottage previously used by the only suspect in the girl's disappearance, a German man currently jailed in his home country for unrelated rape and sexual assault charges. Dozens of agents from Germany's leading domestic law enforcement agency were poring over the ground Tuesday in the Algarve, a southern Portugal region hugely popular with tourists, where Madeleine was last seen. Search teams on Tuesday scoured undergrowth and an abandoned building, with police hoping to find evidence that could implicate the convicted German sex offender in her disappearance. On Tuesday, a journalist from Germany's RTL television recounted his correspondence with Brueckner and how he had met him in prison. Human trafficking charge filed against suspect connected to disappearance of Beaver County teen
At least two people have formally been charged in connection with the disappearance of 17-year-old Isabella Phillips, a Beaver County teen who went missing and was found in Ohio over the weekend. Johnathan Crowe, 25, of Mansfield, Ohio, is in custody and was charged with felony human trafficking by the Mansfield Police Department. Ashlynn Quaintance, 19, of Bucyrus, Ohio, is in custody and is facing several charges brought forth by the Crawford County (Ohio) Prosecuting Office in conjunction with the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, the New Sewickley Township Police Department said in an updated news release on Tuesday morning. Several agencies assisted with the search, including the New Sewickley Township Police Department, the Beaver County District Attorney's Office, and the FBI. "The positive outcome from this investigation could not have been possible without the collaborative effort of many volunteer organizations and law enforcement agencies," the New Sewickley Township Police Department said in a statement. The Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation remains active, officials say.
