Hakimi rape case: Prosecutors call for PSG and Morocco star to face trial

French prosecutors on Friday called for Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi to face trial for the alleged rape of a woman in 2023 which the Moroccan international denies. The Nanterre prosecutor's office told AFP that they had requested that the investigating judge refer the rape charge to a criminal court. 'It is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the framework of his order,' the prosecutor's office told AFP in a statement. Hakimi, 26, played a major role in PSG's run to its first Champions League title, the full-back scoring the opener in the 5-0 rout of Inter Milan in the final in May. Hakimi, who helped Morocco to its historic progress to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup, was charged in March, 2023 with raping a 24-year-old woman. Hakimi allegedly paid for his accuser to travel to his home on February 25, 2023, in the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife and children were away on holiday. The woman went to a police station following the encounter alleging rape and was questioned by police. Although the woman refused to make a formal accusation, prosecutors decided to press charges against the player. She told police at the time that she had met Hakimi in January 2023 on Instagram. On the night in question she said she had travelled to his house in a taxi paid for by Hakimi. She told police Hakimi had started kissing her and making non-consensual sexual advances, before raping her, a police source told AFP at the time. She said she managed to break free to text a friend who came to pick her up. 'Attempted extortion' Contacted by AFP after Friday's development, Hakimi's lawyer Fanny Colin described the call by prosecutors for a trial as 'incomprehensible and senseless in light of the case's elements'. 'We, along with Achraf Hakimi, remain as calm as we were at the start of the proceedings. 'If these requisitions were to be followed, we would obviously pursue all avenues of appeal,' she continued. According to Colin, her client had 'been the target of an attempted extortion'. 'Nothing in this case suggests an attempted extortion,' Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer representing the woman, said. 'My client welcomes this news with immense relief,' she told AFP. 'We will not tolerate any smear or destabilisation campaign, as is unfortunately still too often the case for women who have the courage to report the rape of which they are victims,' she added. The son of a cleaning lady and a street vendor, both Moroccans who have lived in Spain since the 1980s, Hakimi was born in Getafe, a southern suburb of Madrid. Hakimi came through the youth system at Real Madrid before joining Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2018. He went on to make 73 appearances for the German club. He moved to Inter Milan in 2020 and then on to PSG in 2021 where he has established himself as an integral part of the team. In Qatar, Hakimi was a cornerstone of the Morocco team that became the first African or Arab nation to reach the semifinals of a World Cup.

Who is Christian Coleman? Exploring personal details of Olympic sprinter following his girlfriend Sha'Carri Richardson's arrest

Christian Coleman. Image via: Jewel Samad/AFP via Getty Images As headlines swirl around Sha'Carri Richardson's recent arrest, much attention has turned toward her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman. He has made his status in the sprinting world as a towering figure in American track and field. Coleman's athletic prowess is undeniable. But who is the man at the center of this controversy, and what's the context surrounding the incident that briefly rocked the world of elite sprinting? Who is Sha'Carri Richardson's boyfriend, Christian Coleman? Christian Coleman is one of the fastest sprinters in the United States. The 29-year-old from Atlanta holds the world record in the 60 meters with an eye-watering time of 6.34 seconds, set in 2018. That mark remains untouched. He was also a key part of the U.S. 4x100m relay team that clocked 37.10 seconds in 2019, a national record. Though his name has sometimes flown under the radar compared to his flashier peers, Coleman's speed off the blocks is widely regarded as the best in the sport. In the current 2025 season, he ran 10.06 in the 100m, not his personal best, but still enough to place him among the top-tier sprinters globally, currently ranked 11th in the world. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo His 100m PR is 9.76 seconds, which places him firmly in the all-time elite. But recent headlines haven't focused on lane times or podium finishes. They've centered on something personal, even involving him. Christian Coleman's girlfriend, Sha'Carri Richardson, arrested after airport altercation Sha'Carri Richardson, the reigning 100m world champion and Olympic gold medalist in the 4x100m relay, was arrested on Sunday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. According to a police report, the 25-year-old got into an argument with Coleman, whom she's been dating for two years. The officer claimed that surveillance footage showed Richardson shoving Coleman multiple times and throwing what appeared to be headphones as he attempted to walk away. The altercation was labeled a fourth-degree domestic violence assault, but the case was quickly cleared. Coleman reportedly refused to press charges and 'declined to be a victim.' Despite the dramatic turn of events, both athletes were back on the track within days. Richardson posted her season-best time of 11.07 in the 100m prelims, while Coleman ran 10.08 in his heat. Though Richardson later withdrew from the 100m final — for which she already holds a bye into the World Championships — she has decided to run the 200m after initially saying she wouldn't. In an interview after her heat, Richardson seemed unfazed. 'Right now I'm cruising under the radar,' she said. 'But when it's time to hit — it's gonna be a bang where y'all see my name.' US Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson Arrested For Alleged Assault On Partner

Last Updated: Richardson was arrested for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma Airport. Despite this, she will compete in the 200m at the US Track and Field Championships. US sprint star Sha'Carri Richardson found herself embroiled in another controversy on Friday after being arrested for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, just before the US Track and Field Championships in Oregon. Police in Washington State reported that the 25-year-old 100m world champion was detained on Sunday night following an altercation with Coleman at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. An email to AFP from Port of Seattle Police detailed Richardson's arrest, citing security video footage that captured a verbal dispute between Richardson and Coleman as they exited a security screening. 'Richardson is following and getting close to Coleman several times as Coleman appears to be trying to walk away," the report states. 'Richardson then pushes Coleman hard enough that it sends him crashing into a nearby column…. she again pushes Coleman, again hard enough that it sends him flying a few feet away." Richardson then threw a set of headphones at Coleman, who declined to participate in the investigation and 'declined to be a victim," according to the officer's report. However, USATF officials later confirmed that Richardson—already qualified for the 100m at September's World Championships in Tokyo—had decided to compete in the 200m this weekend. 'She initially told us she would not run in the 200m, but she never formally scratched. She has since informed us she will now enter the 200m," a USATF spokesperson told AFP. Marred By Controversies This incident is just another in a series of controversies surrounding Richardson's career. She was famously barred from competing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 after testing positive for marijuana following her victory at the US trials while grieving her biological mother's death. In 2023, she was removed from an American Airlines flight after an argument with a flight attendant. The Texan athlete had given no hint of her latest controversy when speaking to journalists on Thursday after her opening 100m heat. She did not mention her arrest earlier in the week and was not questioned about it. As the defending world champion, Richardson already had a guaranteed spot at the World Championships in Japan for the 100m and was not obligated to compete in Eugene this week. On Thursday, Richardson expressed her relief at competing in Eugene, knowing her place on the Tokyo team was secured. 'USA is one of the hardest teams to make, so it definitely is a kind of a release of pressure knowing I have a bye," she told AFP. 'It feels really good to not have that pressure and still be able to go to Tokyo. 'Right now I'm cruising under the radar, but when it's time to hit — it's going to be a bang where y'all see my name," she said. Richardson's dramatic day coincided with men's 100m world champion Noah Lyles withdrawing from the remaining rounds of the short sprint. Lyles, already qualified for Tokyo, will compete in the 200m on Sunday. Olympic women's 200m champion Gabby Thomas has also withdrawn from the rest of the 100m and will focus on the 200m.
