CHENNAI: Commuters on the Chennai Central–Gummidipundi suburban route are likely to face delays and limited service options on June 14, 16 and 19 with several EMU and MEMU trains being fully or partially cancelled due to engineering work between Kavaraipettai and Gummidipundi.

The four-hour line and signal block, scheduled from 11.20 am to 3.20 pm, is part of safety upgrade works on the Chennai Central–Gudur section.
As a result, over a dozen key local services connecting Chennai Beach, Moore Market Complex, Gummidipundi, Sullurupeta, Nellore and Avadi will not run on these days.
Officegoers and daily passengers depending on mid-morning and afternoon trains from Chennai to northern suburbs and Andhra border towns are likely to be most affected.
Train services between Moore Market Complex and Sullurupeta, including those scheduled at 10.15 am, 12.10 pm and 1.05 pm, will remain cancelled.
Several Gummidipundi-bound trains from both Moore Market Complex and Chennai Beach during this window are also cancelled, along with key return services in the afternoon, including those scheduled from Gummidipundi at 10.55 am, 1 pm, 2.30 pm and 3.15 pm.
The Sullurupeta–Moore Market Complex services departing at 1.15 pm, 3.10 pm and 9 pm will also not operate.
Two long-running services—Chengalpet to Gummidipundi (9:55 am) and Gummidipundi to Tambaram (3 pm)—will be partially cancelled between Gummidipundi and Chennai Beach.
To ease the inconvenience,
will operate six special passenger trains connecting Moore Market Complex, Minjur, Ponneri and Chennai Beach. These include trains from Moore Market Complex to Ponneri (10.30 am), Minjur (11.35 am), and Chennai Beach to Ponneri (12.40 pm), with return services from Ponneri and Minjur running in the afternoon.
Commuters are advised to check updated timings and make alternate arrangements if they rely on mid-day suburban services on these days.

‘Going back happily, happily…': UK couple killed in Air India crash were in India for Ayurvedic retreat
'Just boarding. Goodbye, India' — This was part of the farewell message posted by a British couple on the Instagram handle of their spiritual wellness brand before they boarded the London-bound Air India flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon. The aircraft, with 242 people on board, crashed shortly after take-off. Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek and Jamie Ray Meek, who ran The Wellness Foundary, were returning to the UK after coming to India for an Ayurvedic retreat. In a video they posted on Instagram, recorded at Ahmedabad airport before they boarded the plane, Fiongal said, 'We are at the airport. Just boarding. Goodbye, India.' He joked with Jamie, asking him about the 'biggest takeaway from the trip', before jovially saying, 'My biggest takeaway is don't lose patience with your partner.' He then said, 'Going back happily, happily, happily, calm.' In another video that seemed to have been recorded the night before at their hotel, Fiongal said, 'So, it's our last night in India and we have had a magical experience, really. There have been some quite mind-blowing things… We are going to make a vlog about the whole trip and share it.' Sitting with him, Jamie said, 'There's been too much… It would be just so nice to remember this and to share it with everybody, because we really have been on quite a journey, and then just spending the last night here in this amazing hotel. We've just had the most delicious thali food. It was the perfect way to round up the trip… Excited to share it all with you, actually.' Fiongal, a tarot reader, had quit his job as a fashion designer to start his spiritual wellness brand, offering services such as psychic readings, tarot readings, reiki healing, sound baths, psychic development courses, past life regression therapy and bespoke events. He founded 'The Wellness Foundry' in 2018, 'born out of a profound spiritual awakening that was sparked by a mysterious illness', the company's website said. On his personal website, he described himself as an 'artist, seer, mystic and illustrator'. The website said Fiongal graduated from the Royal College of Art and had worked with leading fashion houses in London. Jamie, a spiritual practitioner and yoga teacher, joined the company in 2023 as co-director and head of events. The duo also ran a podcast, Spirit Level, where they shared perspectives on mindfulness and spirituality. Fiongal had told a friend last week that he was in Gujarat for an Ayurvedic retreat. Saatvika Mangharam, a Bengaluru-based yoga teacher who had known Fiongal since 2017 when they met at an ashram in Madurai, described him as 'a sweet, kind and gentle person'. 'He put up a status on social media that he was coming to India. On June 3, I texted him on Instagram to catch up, but he said he is in Gujarat for an Ayurvedic retreat. When I saw their video online yesterday, I was shocked. I knew they were in India, but I did not expect to see them in the crash. I messaged him to check, but there was no response,' she said. 'In the video, he bid goodbye to India, and it turned out to be their final goodbye. His last note on Instagram was 'headed home' with a sad emoticon. It is all so uncanny,' she said. Saatvika said, 'We met at an ashram in Madurai in 2017, where he had come for a yoga teacher training course, and I was a volunteer there at the time. Over the years, we remained in touch online. During Covid, I attended some of his sessions online.'

‘Bird hit' grounds AI Express plane in Bangkok; may fly to Surat on Saturday
New Delhi/Surat: Passengers on two Surat-bound flights were forced to deboard on Friday due to technical issues. The affected flights were from Thailand to Surat and the one operating on the Jaipur–Bengaluru–Surat route. Air India Express Surat-Bangkok flight of Friday suffered a suspected bird arrival when it was about to land at its destination. The Boeing 737MAX landed safely and was grounded there. As a result, the aircraft could not operate the return Bangkok-Surat flight. "There were about 180 passengers who were supposed to fly to Surat. All guests were provided with hotel accommodation by the airline and gave them options including rescheduling to any other date or cancellation with full refund," said AI Express sources. The airline is flying engineering support and material on a flight to Bangkok. The aircraft is expected to take off from Bangkok on Saturday afternoon. Akash Mashruwala, a Surat-based professional returning from Bangkok, said, "We were made to sit inside the aircraft even as the ground crew worked to fix a technical issue. After an hour, the crew announced that we would have to deboard. We were told the issue would be resolved in a couple of hours, but we ended up waiting at the departure terminal for nearly six hours. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? A similar situation unfolded on Air India Express flight IX-2749, scheduled to arrive in Surat from Jaipur via Bengaluru. A passenger working with a private firm told TOI, "The same aircraft had already reported an AC failure on its incoming leg (IX-2768) but was still cleared for another journey." The flight, originally scheduled for 11:30 am, was first delayed due to a 'technical fault', and later further postponed to 5pm citing a runway closure at Jaipur from 2pm to 5pm. At 5pm, passengers were informed that the aircraft's engine needed to cool down after overheating. "As the cabin became unbearably hot and suffocating, with infants crying, several passengers demanded to deboard. Initially, the crew resisted, but eventually opened the gates when the situation worsened," he added. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
