Cubs Trade Idea Finds Pirates Andrew Heaney
Cubs Trade Idea Finds Pirates Andrew Heaney originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Chicago Cubs are having the exact type of season they had hoped for this spring.
Both superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker and President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer are in contract years, and this season needed to be (and still needs to be) a successful one.

The bullpen could always use another arm, and there are serious questions about Chicago's third base situation. However, with ace Justin Steele out for the season and no clear-cut fifth starter in this rotation, starting pitchers should be atop the Cubs' wishlist this trade deadline
Jim Bowden of The Athletic mentioned Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Andrew Heaney among the possible starting pitcher targets for the Cubs.

Here is what the potential trade could look like:
Cubs receive: LHP Andrew Heaney
Pirates receive: 1B/3B Cole Mathis (No. 14)
Heaney, at 34 years old and in the final year of his contract, should come at a reasonable price, even with an assumed division tax. He is putting together another solid year on the mound with a 3.24 ERA, a 4.37 FIP, and 52 strikeouts to 24 walks over 72 and 1/3 innings.

Heaney has also only made six career postseason appearances, five of which came with the Texas Rangers during their 2023 championship run. But, despite a limited sample size, Heaney has not shown much of a drop-off compared to the regular season with a 3.86 ERA, a 4.30 FIP, and eight strikeouts to six walks.
He would fit in nicely alongside Shota Imanaga, Jameson Taillon, Matthew Boyd, and Colin Rea, while young guys like Ben Brown and Cade Horton could serve as long relievers.
Mathis is an intriguing prospect, and while Chicago might need another prospect attached to this deal, he aligns with Pittsburgh's farm system needs.

Cam Skattebo's Lack of Pro Football History Knowledge Is Shockingly Bad
Cam Skattebo's Lack of Pro Football History Knowledge Is Shockingly Bad originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. In a Barstool Sports video that appeared on X, Skattebo was looking at photos of some of the NFL's greatest players on his phone and was asked to identify each by name. Advertisement Shockingly, the New York Giants rookie was 'scatterbrained' as he could not identify two Pro Football Hall of Famers: Calvin Johnson and Brett Favre. Johnson was later identified only after Skattebo received hints. In addition, Skattebo was unable to identify former Saints great Marques Colston, but was able to name Seahawks Legion of Boom safety Kam Chancellor. It is a good thing Skattebo was not looking at photos of ex-Giants running backs that came before him. How embarrassing would it be not to know your team's backfield history and recognize Tiki Barber, Joe Morris or Ottis Anderson? A fourth-round pick out of Arizona State, Skattebo took college football by storm last season, rushing for over 1,700 yards and a whopping 21 TDs. Skattebo's effectiveness inside the red zone is the reason he is fighting for a spot on the Giants roster. Advertisement Let us hope Skattebo learns the Giants playbook better than he knows NFL history. A pair of Petes forcing their way into NL MVP consideration
Shohei Ohtani, who could be back pitching in July, is the clear NL MVP favorite. But based on current exploits, it might be between a couple of guys named Pete drafted by the Mets: Pete Crow-Armstrong and Pete Alonso. The Alonso signing may not be the best of the winter (that might be Max Fried), but it isn't far behind, even with $33 million in tax added to the $30M salary. Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong (4) celebrates after hitting a home run against the Washington Nationals. Rafael Suanes-Imagn Images He won't be getting $500M, or close. But this is the third year out of four Alonso is outhitting Vlad Guerrero Jr. The Mets had the other Pete, but as Jed Hoyer said on 'The Show,' the New York Post podcast, the Mets didn't want to part with the higher ranked (at the time) Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio or Matt Allan, so the Cubs settled for acquiring PCA in a 2021 trade.

Vikings Make Announcement About Key Player Return After Long Injury Absence
Vikings Make Announcement About Key Player Return After Long Injury Absence originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Minnesota Vikings lost a key piece of their offense in Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season. Left tackle Christian Darrisaw, the team's first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, had only missed a handful of games in his young career up until that point. Advertisement Unfortunately, during the Vikings' 30-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8, Darrisaw suffered a serious knee injury, tearing his ACL and MCL, which would sideline him for the remainder of the season. However, the Vikings received a huge update concerning their starting offensive tackle as a post to social media showed Darrisaw back at practice and participating in individual drills. At the time of the Virginia Tech alumnus' placement onto injured reserve, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell noted that "he's clearly one of our offensive pillars that we have leaned on a lot, and it's going to be a significant loss. But we've all got to do a little bit more." Advertisement Over his first three seasons in the NFL, Darrisaw played in 41 games, but his injury-shortened 2024 only allowed him to play in seven contests. In that limited timeframe, Darrisaw graded 81.4 on Pro Football Focus, ranking 11th out of 140 tackles. Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O' Hanisch-Imagn Images In July 2024, Darrisaw signed a massive contract extension, linking him to the Vikings through the 2029 season. The deal added four years at $104 million to his existing contract. Based on annual average salary, the 26-year-old is the fourth-highest-paid tackle. Minnesota is in the first day of mandatory minicamp and will extend to June 12. From June 16 to 18, the Vikings will reconvene for voluntary organized team activities. Advertisement Related: J.J.
