Micah Parson's strong message to Cowboys as extension talks linger: ‘Cost them more'

Yesterday's price is not today's price for Micah Parsons. The Cowboys' star and annual NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate told All City DLLS that the contract numbers in the handshake agreement that he and owner Jerry Jones previously reached are going to increase because of the delay in finalizing his extension. 'It's going to cost them more,' Parsons said. 3 Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons gestures during practice at NFL football minicamp, Tuesday, June 10, 2025, AP The problem is that pass-rushers T.J. Watt (Steelers) and Trey Hendrickson (Bengals) held out of mandatory minicamp as they seek new contracts. Parsons has seen the terms of the deal that Watt is seeking and it tops what he and Jones discussed, according to All City DLLS. Therefore, Parsons has a new bar to clear. The delay, as Parsons understands it, is in Jones reaching out to agent David Mulugheta to finalize the paperwork. Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase is currently the highest-paid non-quarterback at $40.25 million per year. 3 Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones arrives ahead of an NFL football owners' meeting, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, AP The Cowboys' delayed approach to finalizing extensions last offseason with quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb cost them millions because the top of the market at every position (even running back these days, thanks to Saquon Barkley) only continues to increase with the inflated salary cap. Instead of learning from their negligence, the Cowboys have taken the same tactic with Parsons, who has been extension-eligible since after the 2023 season. 3 Micah Parsons is waiting to get paid. AP Parsons has 52.5 sacks in 63 games and has made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons. He participated last week in minicamp and is due $24 million on his fifth-year option. If the extension is not done by the time that the Cowboys report for training camp on July 21, he reportedly will stage a hold-in where he shows up to avoid accumulating daily fines but does not take the field so as to avoid risking injury.

Saks Global says it's back on track with vendors, won't close stores

This story was originally published on Retail Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Retail Dive newsletter. Saks Global has mostly smoothed things over with vendors and has no plans to close stores, CEO Marc Metrick told BMO Capital Markets analysts at a recent meeting, according to a Friday client note. The analysts led by Managing Director Simeon Siegel said this suggests 'they are already in the best locations and like their existing fleet.' That includes 33 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 86 off-price Saks Off 5th stores, 36 Neiman Marcus stores, five off-price Neiman Marcus Last Call stores and Bergdorf Goodman's Manhattan flagship. The luxury department store conglomerate didn't immediately respond to an email asking whether this means the downtown Neiman Marcus store in Dallas will remain open beyond 2025 after all. Earlier this year, after announcing that iconic store would close March 31, the company waged a weeks-long battle with city leaders who worked to save it. Ultimately Saks Global agreed to keep the store running through the holidays. The breakdown in relationships with suppliers stemmed from chronic issues with late payments. An unconventional payment plan devised earlier this year signaled to some analysts that the company was struggling to meet its obligations. Metrick told BMO that most vendors agreed to the terms and that Saks Global 'is making progress on outstanding balances.' The company in recent days picked up $350 million in financing commitments that analysts have said likely rescued its ability to stock up for the holiday. Speaking with BMO, Saks executives 'expressed confidence in their liquidity,' on the way to realizing its five-year goal of $600 million in synergies, with $285 million in run-rate synergies by the end of this fiscal year. That five-year target is about $100 million higher than the original target, and the 2025 run-rate is nearly doubled, per BMO. 'While acknowledging macro volatility, Metrick expressed clear excitement and confidence in his long-term business opportunities, the luxury business at large, and expressed confidence in their liquidity and vendor relationships,' Siegel said in the Friday note. Luxury brands may be less optimistic about Saks, however, according to a report from HSBC Global Research analysts led by Erwan Rambourg. New York City-based luxury brand managers have just two major concerns, they found: 'how the well-publicised financial travails of Saks Global will end and the end game for tariffs.' 'The outlook otherwise seems solid,' Rambourg said in emailed comments Thursday. Saks Global appears to be banking on a healthy recovery for luxury consumers — who by Saks' own measure seemed quite agitated earlier in the year — as well as on the strength of the luxury market longer term. BMO cited more up-to-date research from Saks, which found that a third of its customers making $200,000 or more are less confident about the economy in general but more confident about their own situation. These consumers are concerned about the social/political climate above all, then a recession and stock market volatility, per that report. At least for the moment, the stock market is leaning their way, and therefore in Saks Global's favor. In May and June, U.S. equity markets have broadly recouped earlier losses, according to HSBC. 'Of course there are other topics dominating headlines in the US at present, but it seems that luxury consumers are driven more by short-term measures of wealth, such as the value of their 401k pension plans,' Rambourg said. Tariffs and higher prices are not top worries for Saks' customers, per its research. BMO analysts estimate that about 80% of its goods come from Europe, and Saks Global told them that high-single digit percentage price hikes, which they characterized as 'normal,' would mostly offset increased import levies. THREE Business Insurance Provides Valuable Information on Proven Strategies for Restaurant Risk Management

What to know about restaurant risk management and insurance. Omaha, NE, June 14, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- If you own or operate a restaurant, you know that how well you manage daily risks plays a major role in your success. Effective restaurant risk management has many parts, but it starts with having the right financial protection. While there are other steps to take to reduce restaurant risks, getting the right insurance is a critical first step. Even if your employees follow every best practice and training tip, they're still human. Even the most careful employees make mistakes from time to time. That's why having a comprehensive policy from THREE is a lifesaver! Whether one of your team members suffers a deep cut while working in the kitchen or a storm damages your roof, your policy can pay the associated costs so you don't have to dip into your savings or revenues. For restaurant owners and investors, having that financial protection is incredibly reassuring. Let's explore the topic of restaurant business risk management, including what coverages are in a THREE policy and five steps you can take to lower your risk. Protect your restaurant with a comprehensive THREE policy. THREE is a leader in food industry risk management. Our all-in-one insurance for restaurants is designed to protect your whole business. It has all the coverage most restaurants need to mitigate risks, including: WORKERS' COMPENSATION INSURANCE This coverage protects employees who get hurt at work. It can pay for their treatment and rehabilitation and cover part of their wages while they recover. If an employee dies on the job, this insurance can pay what's known as a death benefit to the family. PROPERTY INSURANCE This part of a THREE policy protects your business from the costs of repairing, restoring, or replacing business property. It's crucial in case of an incident like a kitchen fire or natural disaster that damages your building or its contents. Plus, it can pay expenses related to business interruption if you have to shut down temporarily. EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES LIABILITY INSURANCE EPLI covers claims by your employees of sexual harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, and the associated legal costs. COMMERCIAL AUTO INSURANCE Accident liability, physical damage to your vehicles (collision and non-collision related damage), and towing reimbursement are included in Commercial Auto. LIQUOR LIABILITY INSURANCE The Liquor Liability component of a THREE policy can protect you from incidents related to serving (or overserving) alcohol to your customers. CYBER LIABILITY INSURANCE If a hacker gains unauthorized access to your systems, steals sensitive information, and uses it to commit fraud, cyber liability can protect your business. A THREE policy has all of the coverage most businesses need—making it an effective component of your restaurant risk management plan. Getting a quote and buying insurance from THREE is easy. Getting a quote for restaurant business insurance shouldn't be difficult or time-consuming, and with THREE, it isn't. You can get a quote online in five minutes or less. After getting a quote, you can also buy your policy online or over the phone. Coverage is typically active the next day. 5 proven strategies for restaurant risk management. Risk management is essential in the food industry. However, it's impossible to eliminate all restaurant business risks. But if you're willing to invest the time and effort, there are some steps you can take to reduce the risks common in the industry. Here are five actions that can greatly reduce the likelihood of costly food service incidents: 1. Perform a restaurant risk assessment. To minimize your risks, you have to understand your risks. It's essential to look at every aspect of your operation critically and consider what could go wrong. That's probably not something you'll look forward to or enjoy, as it forces you to acknowledge that your business is vulnerable to all kinds of incidents—and that can be a little scary. But knowledge is power, and once you complete your restaurant risk assessment, you're in the driver's seat and can take steps to minimize those vulnerabilities. 2. Develop mandatory employee onboarding and training processes. The restaurant industry tends to have a high turnover rate, so your business will likely bring in new employees regularly. And, of course, you want them to get up-to-speed as quickly as possible. Just be sure not to prioritize speed over safety. Standardizing and documenting how you'll get new people acclimated to their roles and responsibilities ensures safety training doesn't get forgotten. Training should include providing general information (like company policies and rules) and role-specific training (how to use kitchen equipment as a cook), as well as key safety processes and procedures. 3. Monitor and maintain your facilities and equipment. Actions like shoveling sidewalks and mopping wet floors as soon as you notice a problem help reduce the risk of employee and customer injuries. Similarly, addressing issues like a minor roof leak promptly can keep it from becoming a significant problem and safety risk. It's also important to check and service your equipment regularly to protect employees and customers. 4. Know and follow safety codes. Health Department rules and regulations vary by location, so it's essential to understand what's required of your restaurant in everything from employee hygiene and food storage to kitchen and dining area cleanliness. Be sure to stay current on the rules and ensure your employees understand and follow them. Being in compliance also means having the appropriate licenses. 5. Be transparent about ingredients and allergens. Triggering a customer's food allergy can harm them and lead to a costly lawsuit. Be sure your menus have clear and complete information about ingredients, and train your kitchen staff and servers on how to protect diners from issues like cross-contamination and being served the wrong dish.
